This may be reduced to 7,500 in light of the Panel Report on the draft Strategy. The vast majority of this development will be focused on the urban areas and Buckshaw Village.

There are no watercourses in the vicinity of Adlington. However, the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is orientated in a north to south direction and passes through the settlement to the west. Flood Risk DG5 data for external and internal sewer flooding incidents has been obtained from United Utilities for postcode areas within the study area. The number of flooding incidents is presented in Appendix D.

Flood Record There are no recorded fluvial or tidal flooding incidents in this settlement. Sewer flooding incidents are presented in Information Data Appendix D.

Small parts of the urban area are within the Flood Zones of Calico Brook and the River Yarrow (north and east respectively. The Leeds & Liverpool Canal is orientated in a north to south direction to the east of Chorley. Flood Record The River Douglas CFMP records three flooding incidents between 1987 and 1999. There have also been ‘various’ Information Data occurrences since the 1940s.

The River Lostock and a tributary of the Lostock flow through Whittle-le-Woods. The tributary also flows through Clayton Brook / Green. Areas of the settlements are therefore within the Flood Zones, including the functional floodplain, of the watercourses. Flood Risk

Flood Record In 2000, 21 properties were affected by flooding. The FERS data also details some flooding in the area in August 1987, the Information Data extent of which can be seen from the map.
