Senior Snippets

The Bluffton Parks Department with the sponsorship of Bluffton Regional Medical Center is excited to offer a spring session of Senior Snippets. This will be an adaptation of the popular Senior Explorations Program with weekly classes on a variety of topics. These FREE talks will be held at different locations in town so be sure to make a note in your calendar after you sign up. Space is limited in some classes and you must call 824-6069 or e-mailing [email protected] to register.

Mondays, April 19-May 17th 11am – “It Happened One Night” Book/ Movie Club at the Wells County Public Library 12pm- Senior “STEAM” at the Wells County Public Library

Mondays, April 19-May 10th 3pm – Healthy Living Class (Positive Thinking, Understanding the Opioid Crisis, Healthy Nutrition Tips for Seniors, Preventing Falls) at the Washington Park Indoor pavilion 4pm – Variety Class (Inspiration of Writing, Memories of a Grandy Dancer, CCC Ouabache State Park, History of Women’s Suffrage) at the Washington Park Indoor Pavilion.

Class Descriptions “It Happened One Night” Book/ Movie Club – lead by Catherine Campbell will discuss "It Happened One Night" (1934) is a delightful starring as a roguish reporter and as a pampered socialite on the run. Based on a 1933 short story, "Night Bus." Senior STEAM Class – taught by Emily Marshall. Classes will focus on the Technology and Art aspects of STEAM. Participants will learn basic technology pointers using library iPads, launchpads, and other resources to keep entertained at home. There will also be a few easy- to-do art projects during this session. Class size is limited to the first 15 who pre-register. Healthy Living Class – Molly Hoag will speak each week on the following topics: Positive Thinking, Understanding the Opioid Crisis, Healthy Nutrition Tips for Seniors, Preventing Falls. Variety Class – Myrtle Inspiration of Writing Rocky Myrtle Memories of a Gandy Dancer Myra Myrtle CCC Ouabache State Park Deb Johnson, Deb Brown, Marcia Hotopp, and Narrator David Schultz will cover the History of Women’s Suffrage. Hear the story of the 72-year struggle for woman’s right to vote as told by three Suffragettes: Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and Alice Paul. Elder Law - Join attorneys Timothy Babcock and Kristin Steckbeck Bilinski as they discuss Elder Law and Estate Planning Basics. This presentation will cover: *wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care directives * probate & non-probate assets * Medicaid & planning for nursing home care Wells County History – Enjoy an in-depth look at local history at the Museum. Foreign Countries – Listen to area High School exchange students from Bluffton and Norwell Schools talk about life in their home country. Countries include Austria, Thailand, Mexico, France & Germany. Crochet Lessons- Instructor Kathy Gehrett will teach new and advanced students how to crochet. Bring a size H hook, class size is limited to the first 12 who preregister.
