John's Jacqueline TILLEY John'. 17 FREDERICK KENNETH HARE Dr. H;Jre is the provost of Trinity Gellege, professor emeritus of geography at the University of Toronto, and chairman of the Canadian Climate Programme Planning Board. Bom in England. he became a Can;Jdian citizen in 1951. one year after receiving his doctoral degree from the Universite de Montreal. Sin~ thilt time Dr. Hare has receiv ed seven honorary doctorates for his outstanding scholarship and public service. In 1945 Dr. Hare began a long association with McGill University, rising from assis tant professor of geography to dean of the Faculty of Ans and Science. Prior to his first appointment at McGill he h;Jd lectured ;Jt the University of Manchester and served in the Meterological Office of the British Air Ministry during the war years. His wartime service W;JS the found;Jtion upon which he built his career as an environmental scien tist. Other .:Icademic appointments were at the University of London, the Univers{ty of Toronto and the University of British Gelumbia, where he served as president. The extensive list of person;JI honours conferred upon Dr. Hare includes being in ducted as an Officer of the Order of Canada (J97B), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (1968). and a Fellow of King's Gellege (1967). He has held a wide variety of dected offices in profession;J} associ;Jtions and has hdd assistant editorships with a number of professional journals. For m;Jny years Dr. H;Jre has been active in official bodies, foundations and institu tions in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as serving on inter national committees and panels. Graduates. collectively and individually, are part of Memoriars history and part of its future as well. The Memorial University of Newfoundland Alumni Asso<:iation congratulates all new graduates and welcomes them into the Association as full members. As alumni they form the largest part of the University community, Branches are located in St. John"s, Clarenville, Gander. Grand Falls. Corner Brook. Labrador City. Montreal, Ollawa, Toronto and Calgary. There are also branches for the Faculty of Medicine and for the Faculty of Business Administration. Alumni continue to participate in the affairs of the University through six of their members, whom they elect 10 thr~-year terms on the Board of Regents.
