Special thanks to Emma Bennett for organising the report and photographs Abbeytown Carnival 30th July 2016

Despite the parade being quieter than usual because of various other events happening in Cumbria, the crowds still came out to see the carnival and join the free family fun day. As usual we had entertainment from Eric Stanwix Jr, free face painting by Helen Sharp and Stephanie Baxter (which is always popular), bouncy castles, sports day, egg throw, tug of war, and the addition of the army assault course and archery this year. Refreshments were provided for a small charge by the village Parish church committee, who worked extremely hard all day. Winners of the parade are as follows: Best overall float - 1st Euro 2016 2nd The maleificant carnival queen 3rd SMASH. Best village float - 1st Euro 2016 2nd Carnival Queen 3rd Retiring Queen.
