The Art of David Lynch weil das Kino heute wieder anders funktioniert; für ei- nen wie ihn ist da kein Platz. Aber deswegen hat Lynch ja nicht seine Kunst aufgegeben, und nicht einmal das Filmen. Es ist nur so, dass das Mainstream-Kino den Kaperversuch durch die Kunst ziemlich fundamental abgeschlagen hat. Jetzt den Filmen von David Lynch noch einmal wieder zu begegnen, ist ein Glücksfall. Danach muss man sich zum Fernsehapparat oder ins Museum bemühen. (Und grimmig die Propaganda des Künstlers für den Unfug transzendentaler Meditation herunterschlucken; »nobody is perfect.«) Was also ist das Besondere an David Lynch? Seine Arbeit geschah und geschieht nach den »Spielregeln der Kunst«, die bekanntlich in ihrer eigenen Schöpfung und zugleich in ihrem eigenen Bruch bestehen. Man er- kennt einen David-Lynch-Film auf Anhieb, aber niemals David Lynch hat David Lynch einen »David-Lynch-Film« gedreht. Ana Paula dos Santos1 Júlio França2 A aclamada série de televisão Twin Peaks (1990-1991), idealizada por David Lynch e Mark Frost, narra a investigação de um estranho assassinato que choca os moradores de uma pacata cidade do interior dos Estados Unidos. A vítima é Laura Palmer, uma estudante de dezessete anos que fora assassinada após sofrer agressão física e sexual. A investigação do crime é conduzida pela polícia local com o auxílio do agente do FBI Dale Cooper, e acaba revelando um lado sombrio da personalidade da vítima. Laura era sem dúvida uma jovem gentil, responsável e caridosa, mas também estava envolvida com traições e adultério, drogas e prostituição. A descoberta dessa vida dupla faz vir à tona outros segredos obscuros da cidade de Twin Peaks: entre os crimes e as transgressões cometidos às escondidas pelos moradores estão tráfico de drogas, violência doméstica, aliciamento de menores e exploração sexual – apenas para citar alguns exemplos. Além desses horrores, Cooper precisa lidar também com as forças sobrenaturais que povoam a cidade: entidades misteriosas aparecem nos sonhos do agente do FBI sob a forma de anões e gigantes, e até mesmo um duplo de Laura Palmer revela pistas que ajudam a desvendar o crime. Cooper descobre, então, que o próprio assassino de Laura estava possuído por uma entidade maligna responsável pela tortura e morte de outras adolescentes. Ao final do caso, as palavras do agente para a mãe de Laura ajudam a personagem – e também os espectadores – a aceitar os estranhos acontecimentos relacionados à morte da jovem e à própria cidade de Twin Peaks: “Sra. -
