In one quick and brilliant move, the Shrine officials became the first ones on this band wagon and signed Gene for the 1982 Texas Shrine dates. Much of the credit for his recovery goes to his long-time wife, Vivian, who helped pull him through a tough operation that only takes a day to perform, but a year to heal.
