THERAVAADA BODHISATTVA IDEAAL Shanta Ratnayaka The Journal of the International Association of Buddhist Studies Volume 8, Number 2 (1985): 85-110. Paljude arvates on bodhisatta ideaal mahajaana idee. Sageli arvatakse ekslikult et theravaada õpetus bodhisattvast on kas ebatäiuslik või seda ei eksisteeri üleüldse ja vastandatakse mahajaana bodhisatta ideed theravaada arahandi ideaaliga kritiseerides viimast teravalt ning tembeldades seda isekaks ideaaliks. Selline väärarvamus võib pärineda mõnest populaarsest mahajaana tekstist, ekslikust või puudulikust theravaada õpetuse mõistmisest või mõlemast eeltoodud tegurist. I. Those who adored Sivali Thera (Shin Thiwali) will appreciate an additional arahat who could fulfill your worldly wishes in addition to understanding his lovely exposition of the Buddha Dhamma. Whoever adores him will find the good kamma come to fruition, immediately in the present. Many worship him for good fortune and are of great help in their training practice (Dana-Sila-Bhavana) the slow and gradual step in the liberation effort to escape from the round of rebirths. Maha Kaccana Thera has acquired special skill and good kamma: a. He was acclaimed as the foremost in exposition the Buddha dhamma. b. He has a golden hue out of his body. c. He was known to given gifts to whoever makes wishes and pay adoration to him. “The Venerable Maha Kaccana's elevation to a position of pre-eminence in the Sangha was the flowering of a seed that had been planted long ago in the rolling cycles of samsara, the round of rebirths, and had been brought to gradual maturity over countless lives.” Maha Kaccana had aspired to become the Master of the Doctrinal Exposition at the time of Buddha Padumuttara. That very aspiration has come to maturity by his support through countless acts of meritorious deeds throughout the round of rebirths and one of the acts of meritorious deeds was his offering of a gold brick to the stupa that enshrined the relics of the Kassapa Buddha. -

Dagon University Research Journal 2011, Vol. 3 Buddhist Arts of Konedawgyi Temple Kyawt Hmu Aung* Abstract Kondawgyi Temple (Temple No-151) is situated in the east of Nyaung U, south of That-kya- muni, Temple coordinates N: 51.300 E: 13.615. It is a kind of medium sized single storey temple and lies at the centre of an enclosure wall with one gate each on north and south. It consists of square central shrine, entrance hall on east side with porch and lateral porches, vestibule and porch on south and north faces. The interior decoration of Bagan temples consisted of wall paintings. It covered almost entirely the ceiling vaults and all of the interior walls. Painted designs were performed as a framework of architectural moldings. Konedawgyi temple has full of paintings depicting Buddha life stories, as far as we can study this temple was the best and completeness on the subject on Buddha life stories, and we can see original paintings of late 12th century AD Bagan Period. Thus, this temple has full of historical importance for scholars and researchers. The Buddha's Intention to Establish the Bhikkhuni Saṅgha
The Buddha’s Intention to Establish the Bhikkhuni Saṅgha Natchapapha Wasinghon* Introduction One of the significant factors that give rise to the conflict on Bhikkhuni ordination in present-day Thai society is the different beliefs and understanding about the Buddha’s real intention to establish the Bhikkhuni Saṅgha in Buddhism, both among its opponents and advocates. Those who oppose to the ordination often maintain that the Buddha did not really intend to ordain Bhikkhuni in the fi rst place. Their presence in the Buddha’s lifetime was due to certain circumstances or external factors that eventually led the Buddha to permit their ordination. The advocates, on the other hand, generally insist that it was the Buddha’s real intention to establish Bhikkhuni Saṅgha in the religion in the same way as he did the Bhikkhu counterpart. Such divergence of views is not simply a matter of religious principles that legitimately demand proper investigation, but it also affects how the Bhikkhuni issue will be resolved. If society does not regard Bhikkhuni as something that the Buddha intended to establish, devout Buddhists may not want to see the Bhikkhuni ordination revived. Naturally, the intention of the founder carries a signifi cant weight in considering whether or not Bhikkhuni ordination should exist. On the other hand, if society believes otherwise, the attitude towards the issue may be different.
