Library Resource Leader

Job Title: Library Resource Leader School: Pleckgate High School Reports to: Lead Practitoner Grade: Grade F – SCP 25 – 29 Term Time including 5 inset days

Applications are welcome for the position of Library Resource Leader at Pleckgate High School. This is a special opportunity for an outstanding, ambitious and dynamic person to join the school at an exciting phase of its journey to outstanding. As the Library Resource Leader in school, you will be responsible for strategically and operationally leading the development of the Library and literacy resources to ensure it is the hub of the school with a focus on ensuring student make good progress and develop a love of reading.

The primary focus will be to work under the professional direction of the Lead Practitioner for literacy, oracy and numeracy and within an agreed system of supervision in delivering library sessions & lessons. Overseeing the Accelerated Reader (AR) program, tracking the progress of students and intervening as required to support progress. Working alongside the Lead Practitioner for literacy, oracy and numeracy to promote reading and raise the profile of reading across the school.

The Library Resource Leader will be expected to progress pupils’ learning and to assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment as agreed with the Lead Practitioner for literacy, oracy and numeracy. In addition, they will be expected to promote reading around the school and continually update the reading school section of the website. There will also be an expectation to work with the lead for CEIAG to ensure that the library becomes a hub for careers education as well as supporting future pathways for pupils.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• To work with teachers as part of a professional team to support learning activities in the library. • Deliver, monitor and report on the achievement of accelerated reader. • Lead and manage the everyday activities within the library. • Plan challenging teaching and learning objectives within the library setting. • Working with the CEIAG lead to promote careers education within and out of school. • Use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support and progress pupils’ learning. • Deliver agreed learning activities to pupils, adjusting activities according to pupil responses/needs.

WITHIN THE LIBRARY

• Promote the Library as a learning hub for all pupil. • Promote reading and take responsibility for small reading groups and develop reading choices for pupils with catch-up and EAL cohorts. • Instigate discussion and recommendation of different genres. • Manage lending of fiction and non-fiction texts. • Liaise with staff as necessary to coordinate special events/ visiting speakers. • Manage book stock, liaising with the English Department in the development of the Fiction Section, and with Subject Leads as appropriate in the development of subject specific areas of the Reference Section. • Support pupils in the research and development of their learning both online and using academic reference books in the Library. • Promote pupils’ ability to negotiate the Internet and complete research with value • Manage, administrate and report on AR • Manage the library budget.

SUPPORT FOR TEACHING STAFF

• Organise and manage an appropriate learning environment within the library. • Monitor and evaluate pupil responses to learning activities through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies against pre-determined learning objectives. • Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports to teachers on literacy skills and Accelerated Reader program. • Record progress and achievement in lessons/activities systematically and provide evidence of range and level of progress and attainment. • Establish a clear framework for discipline in line with established policy, anticipate and manage behaviour constructively, promoting self-control and independence. • Support the role of parents in pupils’ learning and contribute to/lead meetings with parents to provide constructive feedback on pupil progress/achievement etc.

SUPPORT FOR PUPILS

• Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations. • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom and library. • Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs . • Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities. • Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance. • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement.

SUPPORT FOR THE CURRICULUM

• Use ICT effectively to support learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use. • Select and prepare resources necessary to deliver learning and literacy activities, taking account of pupils’ interests and language and cultural backgrounds.

OTHER

• Comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, equal opportunities, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting concerns to an appropriate person. • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop. • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school. • Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with the Literacy Coordinator, to support achievement and progress of pupils. • To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager. • To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health & safety in the workplace. • Ensure that all duties and services provided are in accordance with the School’s Equal Opportunities Policy. • The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment.
