07875 070862 ——————————— Bishop Stopford School Admissions

Pytchley It will soon be time for parents/carers who wish their children to attend Bishop Stopford School to complete applications forms for entry in September, 2018. Golf Lodge Est 1995 As we don’t have a Rector at the moment, this year the forms should be given to your Churchwardens please so that they can complete the section about Church • 9 Hole Pay and Play Golf Course attendance. The Rural Dean has given permission for applications to be approved • 24 Bay Floodlit Driving Range by Gillian Walton, Churchwarden at Orlingbury, as a ‘Faith Leader’. This is helpful • Ironside Bar Serving Real Ales as we can deal with everything locally where we know our families. • Fresh Food Served Daily On the form, certain phrases are defined by Bishop Stopford School as below: • “The Garden Room” available for private events • American Golf Superstore At the heart of: are substantially involved in the life of their faith community • Open 7 days a week Frequently: they have participated fortnightly, or more regularly, for a period of Rd, Pytchley, Northants, at least 3 consecutive years up to the date of application NN14 1EY 01536 511527 www.pytchleygolflodgekettering.co.uk Occasionally: they have participated monthly or more often for a period of at least two consecutive years up to the date of application

Attached to: they participate in the life of their faith community.

Last year, Churchwardens agreed with Rev’d Mary Ireland, our then Rector that in our group of 5 Churches “At the heart of” our churches means being on a rota of any kind that helps to run the church, and that “attend church” means any church family worship that the child attends with one or other of their parents/guardians (in addition to Sunday services this includes Friday Family Fun, Little Fishes, etc but NOT Sunday School or other events that the child attends without a parent/ guardian).

Churchwardens will be happy to discuss any queries with you.

There is a list of Churchwardens on the inside front cover of Connect 5.

Gardener’s Corner October 2017 By Alistair Peak PGS The lovely autumn colours, the smells and shades of the countryside tell us au- tumn is well and truly here. This is a good time to get on with the planting up of your spring bedding, e.g. Wallflowers, Sweet William, Primulas, Winter Flowering Pansies and Bulbs. It’s so tempting when your summer bedding is doing well to delay putting in your Spring Bedding but as the soil is still warm try and get the above planted ASAP. When re- moving your summer bedding try to dig over the area thoroughly and incorporate some organic mater or garden compost, as the soil will have been starved of goodness from the plants you have just taken out. Very often when you have had bedding plants, the soil will become dry and compacted where the plants have grown so do ensure you dig over thor- oughly. With our springs becoming drier if you are planting new plants in the spring wa- tering is really a big issue. I know we can’t predict what our winters are going to be like, however I am beginning to think we should consider planting up hardy plants more in the autumn so as to get the plants established before the worst of our winters. This works well with plants that are bought bare rooted, which must be planted between leaf fall and leaf break. Should you be doing any work with your herbaceous plants now is a good time to do this. Many herbaceous plants grow better by dividing every three or four years, as very often the centre part of the plant dies, so now is a good time to divide. As with any new planting remember to add plenty of organic Isha adies Cub matter, which will help to hold moisture in the following season. I would also give the

plants a handful Bone Meal as this will help Will meet on with the establishment of the root system. God’s work and ours

his autumn, as many return to [email protected] work or education having T enjoyed at least a few weeks’ summer break, I am reminded of this famous and beautifully crafted prayer;

Jesus, Master Carpenter of Nazareth, who on the cross through wood and nails did work our whole salvation, wield well your tools in this your workshop, that we who come to you rough hewn may by your hands be fashioned to a truer beauty and a greater usefulness; for the honour of your holy name. Amen.

It uses Jesus’ earthly profession to celebrate his life-saving death and reflect on his ongoing work, carpenter- like reshaping the world. However, I Someone once said “Christians find it a challenge to think that we are are people who allow God to do his “raw material” and his “work in things to them so they might do progress” is us! The desire that we things for other people”. As a might be useful and attractive in his bishop I have the great excitement service resonates deeply with our own of meeting lots of people whom longing to be better disciples, not least God is changing and who are in our daily working lives. making a difference to their This prayer always reminds me of communities. You are those the equally famously practical words people, Christ’s body here on earth. of St Theresa of Avila; May God continue to bless His “Christ has no body now but yours, work in us. no hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on the world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands with which he blesses all the world.”
