The Benefice is now, therefore, in interregnum, as it’s called.

However, services will go on as usual and cover is planned until the end of this year with local or visiting clergy in place for every service. We have already held a very successful Wed 19 9:15am Holy Communion at Little Harrowden Benefice event with the ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ Prayer Festival at Great Harrowden Church on May 25th and plan to have another one later in the year. The Diocese did advertise the va- 9:15am Holy Communion & Sunday School at Little Harrowden cancy in the Church Times for two weeks in June, but unfortunately there were no appli- 9:15am Holy Communion at Isham cants. The Archdeacon, will advise on the way forward shortly. Churchwardens have met with Rural Dean, Revd Miranda Hayes, who has offered her help and will make any decisions Sun 23rd 11:00am Holy Communion at Orlingbury or approvals usually carried out by the Rector, e.g. wording on monuments. Churchwardens 11:00am Holy Communion at Pytchley are getting together regularly just to ensure everything is running smoothly. There has been 11:00am Family Service at Great Harrowden a hiccup with The Vicarage telephone number, which will be 01933 675607, until we are able to restore the old number. However, please contact your churchwardens instead as this Wed 28th 9:15am Holy Communion at Little Harrowden number will not always be manned. Our Benefice Administrator, Kristy, will be in the office two mornings a week as usual and The Vicarage is also being tenanted temporarily, in case 9:15am Holy Communion at Isham you see signs of life. If you have any queries please do contact your churchwardens, their 10:00am Café Church at Little Harrowden numbers are listed at the top of this page. Last month the children were so taken with the interactive story of Jonah and the whale that they asked for it to be repeated. They particularly enjoyed re-creating the storm—poor Jonah!

The original way we each made ‘Jonah in a whale’ was great fun. Whale (and other sea creature) shaped biscuits were iced and decorated—some eaten for pudding, others taken home.

ALL SAINTS CHURCH needs FRIENDS!

Most people like to know the parish church is there for them even if they never or only rarely use it. If you are interested in seeing our beautiful, ancient church survive for this and future generations, please consider becoming a ‘Friend of All Saints.’ There is absolutely no requirement for a Friend to attend church services—although you would be very welcome should you choose to do so!

What is a Friend? A Friend is someone who - with a group of like-minded people - is prepared to be involved in fundraising activities. Collectively Friends decide how to raise money - possibly undertaking one (maybe two) major events per year and perhaps some smaller events along the way. Friends encourage support for these events from their own social or business networks.

One or two people have expressed an interest in this but it needs a group of Walk on air with Claire Chiropodist/ Podiatrist probably around five or six people to get it started and it needs someone willing to chair the group. Could this be you?

We have exciting plans to improve facilities in church and, thanks to generous 01933 222068 donations, we have some money set aside for this. The highlight of the game was our overseas player Ben Atkinson scoring 91 late on. On the same day, Ian Kelland scored 110 not out for the seconds and David Hobbs got 109 not out for the Zingari. Had Ben managed a deserved century it would surely have created some sort of record for the club. Well you have enjoyed the lovely month of June, now hopefully you can still find time to sit back and take in all that hard work you have done. With the main holiday sea- son well and truly upon us we all need to have some form of break. In the garden there is still plenty to do, in the vegetable garden your courgettes are actively growing. It’s best to pick them while they are young and tender to eat, to me they taste wonderful if lightly fried in butter, they do not freeze well as they contain a lot of water. For the adventurous among us you can always eat the flowers of your courgettes they can either be eaten hot or cold. Try to eat the courgettes whilst small otherwise they turn into Marrows. As soft fruit and vegetables become ready, start picking and storing them along with sowing more salad crops to continue later harvesting. Many of the early summer shrubs have now finished flowering and require pruning eg Philiadelphus (Mock Orange) these are best done now as they flower on previ- ous years growth, so it’s important not to prune in the winter otherwise you will prune off the coming season flowers. Another shrub that requires pruning now is Weigela, the best way to prune these shrubs is by removing about a third of the shrub, the stems you do remove ideally need to be taken back to the base of the shrub, by removing these you will encourage new shoots and over time vitalise the shrubs. As with all pruning remember to feed, mulch and water after you have finished. Fingers crossed we get some lovely warm dry weather and so any pots, containers or baskets will require regular maintenance as in watering and feeding using a high potash feed eg Tomato feed. Deadheading will encourage continual flowering throughout the summer. Whilst on the theme of watering, if you do go away on holiday it would be worth- while arranging for someone to water whilst you are away. To make life easier for the per- son who is doing the watering, if possible move any plants into a shady spot. A holiday thought for your houseplants move them outside for a few weeks this will give them some fresh air and may some soft summer rain but hopefully not too much. Trees are wonderful plants to grow, should you have them in your garden do have a look and see if any branches are hanging low or are covering up other plants, or are you in danger of knocking your head when close to the tree? By careful pruning you can re- move the lower branches, sometimes by just pruning off the end of the branches often works, as the branch is now lighter and the rest of the branch will bounce up.

Gardeners Tip: Do keep an eye out for the spring bulbs, as they will soon be in the Nurseries or Garden Centres, if you want the best now will be the time to purchase them. Autumn will be here soon!!!!
