-Sail For Steve-

Commodore Report August 2017

I want to encourage all Windycrest members to participate in the Sail for Steve regatta. The thing that I find most attractive about Sail for Steve is that we make a giant impact to a small charity that is focused on providing services to those with adapting to life with ALS. APSO has grown tremendously in the last five years has helped a considerable number of individuals in the Tulsa area who have been diagnosed with ALS. The Sail for Steve regatta has had a significant impact on their ability to provide those services. With your help Larry has gone from providing ALS support on a very part-time basis to a full-time commitment. The family support, life change coaching and the real estate improvements Larry and his team make for individuals facing one of the biggest challenges of their lives has been very helpful to our friend Steve.

Looking forward to seeing you on the lake.

IV Vice Commodore Report August 2017

Greetings Friends of the Fruited Plain,

We have finally made it into the best months of the year. It is entirely strange to have the reverse summer we are experiencing right now. It shall make for an interesting September/ October that we have fully booked with sailing events. We have had a rough year on our scheduled events, high water and bad storms; hopefully we can get lucky for the next 2 months. Labor Day Brunch & LDR, Sail 4 Steve, Tulsa Catfight, MC SW CHAMPIONSHIP, Windycup & Annual Meeting BBQ. Please support your local sailing club, come participate sail, race committee, spectate, eat be and merry. Please check the Windycrest.com for RSVP and current updates on these events. Richard does a great job maintaining our website; please utilize it for information and scheduling.

Make sure you are in the Windycrest Facebook group and following the public page. There are 2 different platforms. The Group is private discussions amongst club members. The Facebook Page is public and for used for promotion and advertising. Most events are only announced through our official schedule on our website.

The road project that was supposed to start earlier this spring has been postponed to October. D dock floatation project is complete. The board agreed to purchase another SeaArk, 20’ identical to what we have now except it will have a center console. The center console will be better for the driver’s vision.

At this moment we have a new 2018 board in the pipeline and will announce this next month.

Vice Commodore

Drew Ziegler CAN YOU SAIL IN THE WSC SAIL FOR STEVE CHARITY?

Say, “Yes I can”, and you will be part of the 37 year tradition of the WSC Charity Regatta. Steve Snider says “With 50 plus boats on the lake, it will be a proud moment for each sailor and WSC.” The monies donated will go straight to ALS Patient Services Outreach (APSO) in Northeastern OKlahoma. This will be the fifth year to support APSO.

Steve knows the APSO people who are dedicated to helping those who are afflicted with ALS. Larry Seacat, a sailor himself, is the Executive Director and he will be at the regatta for you to meet.

To have 50 plus boats out for the regatta, Steve is asking you to sail and also bring out another sailor to sail their boat. We want to show Paul Foerster, our Olympic Medalist guest and special instructor, the spirit of WSC.

The Junior Program this summer was a great success with 23 sailors. In an effort to involve the juniors, all of them have been encouraged to sail in the regatta. In addition three junior raffle winners will sail with Paul Foerster on the adult raffle winning boats.

Sooo, come out and meet Paul, learn from Paul’s chalk talk tips ( Sunday), enjoy the sailing, have lunch and listen to the band. All this when you register, donate and sail your boat. What a great way to spend the day this September 9th.

Mary Snider
