Los fie- les, después de la purificación final si es necesario, vivirán para siempre en el cielo. Los malvados vivirán para siempre en el infierno. La realidad del juicio llama a todos a la fe y la conversión. La muerte: es el final de la vida terrena. La muerte es la consecuencia del pecado. La muerte fue transformada por Cristo. «La vida de los que en ti creemos, Señor, no termina, se transforma; y, al deshacerse nuestra morada terrenal, adquirimos una mansión eterna en el cielo. (Misal Romano, Prefacio de difuntos). (CIC 1006-1012) El Juicio: Cada hombre, después de morir, recibe en su alma inmortal su retribución eterna en un juicio particular que refiere su vida a Cristo, de acuerdo a su fe y sus obras, bien a través de una purifi- cación, bien para entrar inmediatamente en la bienaventuranza del cielo, bien para condenarse inmediatamen- te para siempre. El Juicio Final sucederá cuando vuelva Cristo glorioso. La resurrección de todos los muertos, "de los justos y de los pecadores" (Hch 24, 15), precederá al Juicio final. Frente a Cristo, que es la Verdad, será puesta al desnudo definitivamente la verdad de la relación de cada hombre con Dios (cf. Jn 12, 49). El Juicio final revelará hasta sus últimas consecuencias lo que cada uno haya hecho de bien o haya dejado de hacer durante su vida terrena. El Juicio final revelará que la justicia de Dios triunfa de todas las injusticias co- metidas por sus criaturas y que su amor es más fuerte que la muerte. El Infierno: el estado de autoexclusión definitiva de la comunión con Dios y los beatos, reservado pa- ra aquellos que se niegan por su propia y libre elección a creer y convertirse del pecado, incluso hasta el final de sus vidas (CIC 1033) Purgatorio: Los que mueren en la gracia y en la amistad de Dios, pero imperfecta- mente purificados, aunque están seguros de su eterna salvación, sufren después de su muerte una purifica- ción, a fin de obtener la santidad necesaria para entrar en la alegría del cielo. El Cielo: Los que mueren en la gracia y la amistad de Dios y están perfectamente purificados, viven para siempre con Cristo. Son para siem- pre semejantes a Dios, porque lo ven "tal cual es" (1 Jn 3, 2), cara a cara. Vivir en el cielo es "estar con Cris- to" (cf. Jn 14, 3; Flp 1, 23; 1 Ts 4,17). Los elegidos viven "en Él", aún más, tienen allí, o mejor, encuentran allí su verdadera identidad, su propio nombre (cf. Ap 2, 17). El cielo es el estado de felicidad definitiva y suprema, la meta de los anhelos más profundos de la humanidad. (CIC 1023)
