A BRIEF NOTE ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY Establishment Tezpur University was established on January 21, 1994 as per the Tezpur University Act, 1993 enacted by the Parliament. Currently, the University offers 63 carefully chosen academic programmes through 19 departments under the Schools of Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management, and Sciences. The University also offers 11 programmes under its open and distance mode. With 3300 students, 240 faculty members and 270 administrative and technical personnel, the University today is a hub of quality activities in higher education and research Location The 262-acre sprawling campus of the University sits amidst serene surroundings at Napaam, about 15 km east of Tezpur town in the Sonitpur District of Assam. The campus which has been planned to facilitate latest technologies to flourish with the warmth of the Nature, provides for a perfect ambience for pursuit of education and research. The world heritage site of Kaziranga National Park is an hour away from the University and Nameri National Park and Rajiv Gandhi National Park at Orang too are in close proximity. How to reach Tezpur is connected by air, rail and road. It is 3.5 hours drive from Guwahati, the capital city of Assam. While air connectivity is available from Kolkata and Guwahati, deluxe bus services (both day and night) are available from Guwahati and other important cities and towns of the region. Diploma in System Management Engineering ADMISSIONS While the best accepted national tests have been taken for screening students for professional courses, the University admits students to the other PG and some UG courses through its nationwide test called Tezpur University Entrance Examination (TUEE) with centres in Agartala, Bangalore, Barpeta Road, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Dibrugarh, Diphu, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jorhat, Kokrajhar, Kolkata, Lukhnow, Mumbai, North Lakhimpur, Patna, Shillong, Silchar, Siliguri and Tezpur. B.Tech. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. M.B.A. Management Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by All India Management Association, and Combined Admission Test (CAT) conducted by Indian Institutes of Management. M.Tech. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and Tezpur University Entrance Examination (TUEE); M.Sc. Combined Entrance Examination for Admission to M.Sc. in Biotechnology (CEEB) (MBBT) conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Tezpur University Entrance Examination (TUEE); Ph.D. Tezpur University Ph.D. Entrance Examination. All Others Tezpur University Entrance Examination (TUEE). The admission notification is normally floated through leading dailies and the University website in January- February. From 2015 onwards, filling and submission of application forms will be done online only. The prospectus for all programmes will be available online at the University website www.tezu.ernet.in The Tezpur University Entrance Examination (TUEE) is conducted in May so that the selected students can be admitted in July well ahead of the new session which begins in August. Sophisticated & Analytical Instruments Facility Apart from the state-of-the-art laboratories at the departments, the University has established a Sophisticated & Analytical Instruments Facility which currently houses a number of sophisticated instruments such as Single Crystal X-Ray Diffractometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Gel Permeation Chromatograph, High Performance Liquid Chametrography, Powder XRD, Raman Spectrometer, Surface and Pore Size Analyzer, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, etc. A number of other high-end instruments are being procured. Modern Library With its LybSys software, the Central Library serves as the hub of information services apart from being a knowledge centre with 80,000 documents comprising books, theses, journals, conference proceedings, CDs, etc. from the fields of science, engineering, humanities & social sciences, and management. It also provides access to more than 10,000 electronic journals and different types of databases through UGC-Infonet and DELCON Consortium. The Library users can access the documents including e-journals and other e- resources from any terminal within the University campus. Recently, the Library has created a Knowledge Repository, government publication section, special collection sections on Sankardeva and Lakhminath Bezbaruah and a bibliographical database of Ph.D. and Masters’ dissertations. The Central Library homepage provides electronic access to various bibliographical databases, e-journals and full-text databases through OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) with network access through the campus LAN. Well-equipped Computer Centre, ICT-enabled Campus With 152 latest configuration computers spread over three units and supported by high-end servers including SGI-Altix 350 High Performance Computer Server System and a host of latest software packages, the Computer Centre renders all network-related services at TU. The campus-wide Local Area Network (LAN) that runs on a 1-Gigabit backbone covers all academic departments, centres, offices and other facilities.
