Reaching Tezpur University RAIL CONNECTIVITY 1. On reaching Guwahati Railway Station by train, kindly take the exit towards Paltanbazar (South of the Railway Station) through the Railway Over Bridge. You will notice on the right side- the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) Bus stand. Enquire there about the Bus service to Tezpur. Alternatively, you may take the Winger Service from Guwahati to Tezpur which starts from the ASTC Bus Stand. There are also a number of Private Travel Agencies, viz., the Green Valley, Blue Hills, Net Work, Warispiya, etc ., that ply buses between Guwahati and Tezpur at regular intervals. It takes generally 4 hours to reach Tezpur from Guwahati. 2. If you are reaching Guwahati by Air, the following options are available. (i) You may take a taxi to Tezpur University directly from the airport. The usual charge is between Rs. 2800/- and Rs. 3000/- (ii) You may take an Auto/Taxi to the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT). The usual fare is around Rs. 150/ from the ISBT you are to avail ASTC buses to Tezpur. (iii) You may take a Taxi to Paltan Bazar (usual charges are Rs. 250/- to Rs. 300/-), from where either ASTC or Private Travel Agency operated Buses to Tezpur may be availed. (iv) You may avail the ASTC Airport bus service to Paltan Bazar/ ISBT (Usual charges are Rs. 80/-) from where you can take the Winger/bus services to Tezpur. 3. Almost all buses/Winger stop finally at or near the ASTC bus station at Tezpur. 4. On your arrival at the ASTC Bus Station at Tezpur you may avail the University Bus service from there to Tezpur University. The University Bus Time Table is available on our website. 5. Please note that the last bus from the ASTC Bus Station to Tezpur University is at 7.45 PM/ 8PM (on Holidays) It is advisable that one reaches the Tezpur ASTC Bus Station before 7.30PM. 6. In case of late arrival, i.e., after 7.45 PM at Tezpur, you may take an Auto from Tezpur town. The fare is Rs. 150/- IMPORTANT Tezpur is connected by Broad Gauge from Tezpur Rail Station to Rangia Junction via Rangapara Junction. However you are advised not to take this route. Nearest main rail hub is Guwahati which is well connected by different Trains from other important places of the country. ROAD CONNECTIVITY Guwahati to Tezpur National Highway No. 31 via Jalukbari upto Baihata Chariali and NH 52 from Baihata Chariali via Mangaldoi. Distance : 175 kms (approx.) National Highway No. 37 via Nagaon upto Kaliabor Tiniali and NH 37A from Kaliabor Tiniali via Kolia Bhomora bridge. Distance : 186 kms (approx.) Regular Bus service is available from Guwahati (ISBT/ Bethkuchi, Near Balaji Temple, AHOM GAON, Guwahati) to Tezpur ASTC Bus Station via Nagaon or Mangaldoi. To reach Tezpur University, University Bus Services are available from Tezpur ASTC Bus Station, Tezpur via Dolabari to the University Campus in scheduled time. (Please see the University website for details). Besides University Bus Service, Taxis/Auto rickshaws are available from Tezpur Town (Near ASTC Bus Station) or Mission Chariali and Private Bus from Tezpur Town (Near Idgah Maidan) to reach the University AIR CONNECTIVITY Direct Air India flights to Tezpur from Kolkata are available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. But daily flights are available from/to Guwahati to/from all other major cities of the country. __ .

Report on the One Day GI Camp in North Lakhimpur (Assam) on Effective use of Geographical Indications - MUGA Silk of ASSAM by Stakeholders March 17th, 2015 Conducted by Tezpur University Intellectual Property Rights (TUIPR) Cell & Intellectual Property Rights Cell, Dibrugarh University in Collaboration with North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous College) Lakhimpur, Assam and Technical Support of Geographical Indications Registry, Chennai April 15, 2015 TUIPR/Reports/38/2012/16 Muga Silk of Assam got a Geographical Indication (GI) registration in 2007 and in 2012, a Logo for GI- Muga Silk of Assam was also registered (Registered GI applications no 55 & 384). Assam Science, Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) is the Registered Proprietor of the GI. Surprisingly from 2007 to 2014 there were only two “authorised users” of this GI. From 2014 to date, 19 applications to become authorised users of the GI - Muga Silk of Assam have been made to the GI Registry in Chennai, of which 14 applications have been published in the GI Journals (Journal Nos 59 & 62) and 5 applications are yet to be published. The Tezpur University Intellectual Property Rights (TUIPR) Cell initiated a project to identify the key reasons for such low usage of the GI - Muga Silk of Assam. Extensive field work was undertaken in some of the areas in which “Sericulture to Production of MUGA Products” is active to understand the dynamics of the MUGA Silk value chain. The key reasons identified by Shri Arshad Hussain, JRF in the TUIPR Cell were low awareness of the significance of GI, non-availability of reliable quality monitoring systems to differentiate “genuine MUGA Silk” from “adulterated MUGA” products, insignificant oganisational support across the entire value chain including nonexistence of enforcement mechanisms in the State of Assam against adulteration and mixed products in the market place.

A BRIEF NOTE ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY Establishment Tezpur University was established on January 21, 1994 as per the Tezpur University Act, 1993 enacted by the Parliament. Currently, the University offers 63 carefully chosen academic programmes through 19 departments under the Schools of Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management, and Sciences. The University also offers 11 programmes under its open and distance mode. With 3300 students, 240 faculty members and 270 administrative and technical personnel, the University today is a hub of quality activities in higher education and research Location The 262-acre sprawling campus of the University sits amidst serene surroundings at Napaam, about 15 km east of Tezpur town in the Sonitpur District of Assam. INDIAN RHINO VISION (IRV) 2020 PROGRAM A collaborative initiative for strengthening rhino conservation in Orang NP ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT MAY 2009 Prepared by – WWF-India & IRF INTRODUCTION : Kaziranga National Park in Assam, India recently celebrated 100 years of successful Indian Rhino (Rhinoceros unicornis) conservation. Numbers in the Park increased from approximately 10-20 in 1905 to an estimated 2048 today (2009). This conservation success is the result of the superlative efforts of the Forest Department in Assam. In Africa the southern white rhino (Ceratotherium simum simum) has achieved a similar but even more spectacular recovery from 20 to over 11,000 individuals. This greater success is due in large part to the policy of translocating rhinos to constantly extend their range. In contrast, over the last century very few of Kaziranga’s rhino have been translocated to establish other populations throughout former range. Kaziranga currently contains 93% of Assam’s rhinos and an estimated 67% of the species total. Moreover, only two of the R. unicornis populations (Kaziranga National Park in Assam, India and Chitwan National Park in Nepal) have more than 100 individuals. This restricted distribution with most of the eggs in only two baskets renders the species very susceptible to stochastic and catastrophic events. Indeed, there recently has been a dramatic decline in numbers (544 to 360) in Royal Chitwan NP (second largest population of the species on the planet) as a result of the Maoist insurgency in this country. There is also a history of sporadic insurgency in parts of Assam (e.g. Manas National Park) with very negative consequences for rhino populations in these areas.

Research Publication Trends of the Scientists of Tezpur University: A Scientometric Study Rubi Goswami Tilak Hazarika Abstract Bibliographic records of 847 items retrieved from Web of Science were studied and increasing publication trends were seen in Tezpur University (T.U.). The average output of the organization was 60 publications per year; the peak was 200 items in 2012 and the minimum was 4 items in the year 1999. Single authorship publication accounted for 6%, while multi authorship publication of ar- ticles accounted for 94 %. The top 22 institutions which collaborated with T.U accounted for about 26% share. It was seen that the publications of T.U received a total of 4763 citations during the period of 14 years. The average citation per item was 5.7. There are chances of flash floods also in association with cloud burst in Hilly regions. Assam Brahmaputra River Brahmaputra is in Severe to Above Normal Flood Situation all along its course from Dibrugarh to Dhubri. Station wise situation based on 0800 hrs level of today is as under: Dibrugarh (Dibrugarh District): River is rising and is in Above Normal Flood Situation. Since extreme rainfall is likely to continue for 3-4 more day, there is likelihood of river crossing Danger Level by tomorrow and remain in Severe to Extreme flood situation during the next 2-3 days. Since there is high probability of extreme rain in catchment areas of River Siang, Lohit, Dibang, there is a 10-15% probability of River touching or crossing HFL at Dibrugarh.
