We would welcome new people to join the PCC to assist us in developing the life of our churches. Objectives and Activities The PCC affirms the Vision of the Diocese of Exeter i.e. growing in prayer, making new disciples and serving people ,mission the of Devon with joy. To enable the Church to flourish and grow, we are also part of a community', where we work within the local community to more effectively share ministry, mission, ideas and resources with others. The PCC is committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship at our churches and to become part of parish the community. The PCC maintains an overview of worship throughout the parish and makes suggestions on how our services can involve the many groups that live within our parish. Achievements and Performance Worship, Prayer and Specia! Services Services parish in the are held every Sunday at St. Mary's except for the third Sunday of the month when a service of Holy Communion is held at St. Raphael's. The type of service varies and recently the fourth Sunday of the month has been designated for'special' services. A successful Memorial Service for families who had been recently bereaved orwho wanted to remember loved ones, was held atthe end of october. A 'mini' Messy Advent Church followed by a short service was held in December. This was greatly enjoyed by those who attended, and we hope that 2O2O will see more opportunities for families and children to enjoy what the church has to offer. 2 Easter, Harvest and Christmas services at both churches were well attended with over 90 people taking part in the Carol Service at Huccaby and a large proportion of young people amongst the TL attendees at the Holne Crib Service. During 2019 there were two funerals at Holne, one child baptised, and one couple married at Huccaby. The PCC would like to thank all those people across the parish who read lessons either on Sundays or at the special services. Electoral Roll and Church Attendance There were 23 people on the Holne Electoral Roll at the end of 20L9 comprising L5 people for Holne, 12 of whom were residents and 8 for Huccaby, 6 of whom were residents. There is an average weekly attendance at Holne of 9 and 11- at Huccaby. Deanery Synod The focus of Deanery Synod during 2019 has been the future structure and staffing of the Moreton Deanery. ln October Synod approved a set of proposals which were to be submitted to the Diocese for consideration. The outcome of those discussions is awaited. Fabric and refurbishment Our aim is for our churches and churchyards to be attractive and peaceful, and to be open to the community for private prayer and reflection. Our visitors clearly appreciate this as witnessed by their comments in our visitor and prayer request books. Holne Urgent repairs were carried out to the porch roof to deal with a leak. A leak in the tower was investigated and appears to have been resolved. A squirrel caused damage to the Nave ceiling and moles in churchyard have been dealt with. Early in the year, our church cleaner Justine had to resign. The gap was temporarily filled by Gill Gray and Colin Jones until Lee Brown was taken on. We are grateful to all of them for the care and hard work that goes into keeping our church clean and tidy. The work of maintaining the old churchyard is the responsibility of South Hams District Council who employ Ross Gray. Ross does go the extra mile in his care for this building and its surrounds and his contributions are much appreciated. A contractor is employed to maintain the rest of the grounds. The PCC would also like to recognise the work of Carol Harper who for many years has taken responsibility for locking the church, organising the Christmas tree, putting out the Nativity Scene and the Easter garden. Carol has now stepped down from these responsibilities and will be a hard act to follow. A volunteer in the form of Claire Austin, supported by her children, has taken over opening the church in the morning whilst Ann Rowland has taken responsibility for seeing that the church is locked at night. We would also like to thank Hannah Best and her team of flower arrangers for the wonderful displays particularly for the special services. J The work on re-ordering was reviewed during 2018 and it was agreed to replace the lighting and radiators, repair the damaged plaster and redecorate throughout. Quotations for this work were obtained early in 2019, unfortunately one of the contractors proved unable to provide the necessary information required for the Faculty application, (i.e. the equivalent of 'planning permission' for repairs and alterations), causing a delay. Another contractor has been appointed and once the PCC have agreed to the schedule of works and costs, the Faculty application will be submitted. Huccaby Early in the year the external gullies were replaced, and the drains cleared. The porch roof was also replaced and further work on the interior walls was carried out by Tony. Annie Way and Anne Hibbert supported by Helen Stokes have continued to decorate the church at no cost as the flowers and greenery is provided from their gardens. Mike Mudge remains a faithful supporter by cutting the grass, also for no charge. Pastoral Care Members of the parish, who are unable to attend Church due to sickness or age, are visited by members of the ministry if they would like to celebrate communion either at their homes or in hospital. Judy Henderson is the Parish Pastoral and Safeguarding Contact, and she will arrange a visit as requested. Ministry ln 2019 we were delighted to welcome Heidi Lewis and her daughter Alana to Holne. Heidi is employed as the Family and Mission Development Worker for the Benefice and is living in the Vicarage at Holne. Heidi led the mini Messy Church in December and was responsible for setting up the 'Follow the Star' trail around the Benefice.
