1 COLLABORATIVE ONLINE RESEARCH PROJECT Consuls of “THE DARDANELLES” and “GALLIPOLI” (Updated Version no: 4 – February 2013) Welcome to a resource being compiled about the consuls and consulates of “The Dardanelles” and “Gallipoli”. This is an ongoing project. In this fourth update, many new details have been added, especially from genealogical sources, and some questions clarified. The information shown here is not complete and may contain errors. For this reason, it may appear rather haphazard in some places. In time, a more coherent narrative will emerge. The project aims to take advantage of the Internet as a source of information and as a means of communication. There is now a vast and increasing amount of information online which allows us access to sources located in various countries. Many sources are quoted verbatim until the content can be confirmed in comparision with other sources. If you are a researcher, family member, or simply interested in some aspect of this topic, you may be able to help by providing additions, corrections, etc., however short. This will help to fill in gaps and present a fuller picture for the benefit of everybody researching these families or this locality. There is an absence of literature regarding how a role influences an actor’s life before, during, and after film production. This study examined how acting roles might influence an actor during times on set shooting a movie or television series as well as their personal life after the filming is finished. Additionally the study considered the psychological impact of embodying a role, and whether or not an actor ever has the feeling that the performed character has independent agency over the actor. -
Genetics of the Peloponnesean Populations and the Theory of Extinction of the Medieval Peloponnesean Greeks

It has also been the subject of a controversy about the ancestry of its population. In a theory hotly debated by scholars for over 170 years, the German historian Jacob Philipp Fallmerayer proposed that the medieval Peloponneseans were totally extinguished by Slavic and Avar invaders and replaced by Slavic settlers during the 6th century CE. Here we use 2.5 million single-nucleotide polymorphisms to investigate the genetic structure of Peloponnesean populations in a sample of 241 individuals originating from all districts of the peninsula and to examine predictions of the theory of replacement of the medieval Peloponneseans by Slavs. We find considerable heterogeneity of Peloponnesean populations exemplified by genetically distinct subpopulations and by gene flow gradients within Peloponnese. By principal component analysis (PCA) and ADMIXTURE analysis the Peloponneseans are clearly distinguishable from the populations of the Slavic homeland and are very similar to Sicilians and Italians. Using a novel method of quantitative analysis of ADMIXTURE output we find that the Slavic ancestry of Peloponnesean subpopulations ranges from 0.2 to 14.4%. -

Cultural Exchange: The Role of Stanislavsky and the Moscow Art Theatre’s 1923 and 1924 American Tours. Master of Arts (History), August 2014, 105 pp., bibliography, 43 titles. The following is a historical analysis on the Moscow Art Theatre’s (MAT) tours to the United States in 1923 and 1924, and the developments and changes that occurred in Russian and American theatre cultures as a result of those visits. Konstantin Stanislavsky, the MAT’s co-founder and director, developed the System as a new tool used to help train actors—it provided techniques employed to develop their craft and get into character. This would drastically change modern acting in Russia, the United States and throughout the world. The MAT’s first (January 2, 1923 – June 7, 1923) and second (November 23, 1923 – May 24, 1924) tours provided a vehicle for the transmission of the System. In addition, the tour itself impacted the culture of the countries involved. Thus far, the implications of the 1923 and 1924 tours have been ignored by the historians, and have mostly been briefly discussed by the theatre professionals. This thesis fills the gap in historical knowledge. -

IBRAHIM AGAINST MANI – THE BATTLE OF POLYARAVOS The importance of the campaigns conducted by the Egyptian army in 1826 against Mani with the leadership of Ibrahim Pasha of Egypt is great. At that time the Greek politicians, to serve their own ambitions and interests, had been (since 1824) started to intriguing against each other and the Government could not meet the expectations of the nation. The land forces were also fighting against each other while the Greek fleet lay idle. The Greek independence War which started in 1821 in Mani, was in great danger. Ibrahim exploited the Greek weaknesses and disembarked its army in Methoni in the Messinian golf. He first invaded and conquered Pylos and Navarino and then invaded the rest of Peloponnese heading for Mani. Mani was the only significant area of Greece, in terms of area, population, military capacity and rural location, which was still free and had never been conquered by the Turks. Since Mani remained free, Ibrahim and Turkish diplomacy could not claim that they discomfited the Greeks and the Greek Revolution. On June 20th 1826 the Egyptian army, organized by and equipped with French officers from the army of Napoleon, crossed the borders of Mani. Ibrahim attacked first from Verga in Western Mani, but his army was rebutted the first day by a thousand Maniots only, who were taking cover behind a stone fence! After two days of fruitless attack, Ibrahim ordered a footing by seven Egyptian frigates led a French admiral to sailed in and attack the center of West Mani near Dyros caves. -

Day 11 Self Observation A few weeks ago, I had surgery. During my recovery, I was paying attention to my body and all that it was going through and I was reminded just how important self-observation is for the actor. As an actor the greatest sources of information and inspiration are your life, your body, and your emotional states. You are experiencing things all the time and you must pay attention to them so you can sense how they feel and manifest themselves. This is a challenging task because we tend not to notice what is going on inside of ourselves unless things becomes extreme or chronic. So I want to encourage you to start paying attention to what is going on with you. And I want you to write it down because paying attention isn’t enough. Writing concretizes information, making it more real and useful than just looking at something and hoping that you’ll remember it. These self- observations of your experiences and emotions, physical sensations and musings, should be included in your actor’s journal where you write about all of the people and things you see that could become part of a characterization. So pay attention. Become an observer of yourself. Watch, listen, and feel what is going on inside of you and around you.
