Coventry ’s lunchtime organ concert on Monday 4th August at 1pm

Coventry Cathedral’s summer series of lunchtime organ concerts continues on Monday 4th August when the Cathedral will welcome back Laurence Lyndon-Jones who, prior to working at , was the Assistant Director of music at Coventry.

Laurence Lyndon-Jones will be performing Toccata ‘Nu la oss takke Gud’ by Hovland, Folk Tune (5 Short Pieces, No.2) by Whitlock, Sonata VI Op.65, No.6 (Choral-Andante-Fuga-Finale) by Mendelssohn and Prelude and Fugue No.1 in B major by Dupré.

The concert will begin at 1pm. Admission to the lunchtime concert series is free of charge. For details of all the concerts, visit www.coventrycathedral.org.uk or pick up a leaflet at the Cathedral entrance or Gift Shop.

Laurence Lyndon-Jones Laurence Lyndon-Jones is Assistant Organist and Director of the Girls’ Choir at Chelmsford Cathedral, where his responsibilities include playing the organ for the majority of the services at the Cathedral.

Until recently, Laurence was Assistant Director of Music at Coventry Cathedral, and Assistant Conductor and accompanist of the St. ’s Singers. Whilst at Coventry he played for a live televised broadcast on BBC1 on Easter day in2012, and played for the service marking the 50th anniversary of the of Coventry Cathedral.

Previously he was and Acting Assistant Director of Music at Chester Cathedral. Laurence began his career in cathedral music as a chorister at St. Albans Cathedral, where he learnt the organ after leaving the choir. In 2006 he became Organ Scholar at Pembroke College Oxford, and graduated in 2010 with a Master’s degree in mathematics. He has given a number of organ recitals in Oxford as well as at Chester, Coventry, Hereford, , and St. Albans . He has also played recitals at a number of venues in Germany including the Würzburger Dom and the Frauenkirche in Dresden.
