Voice of Tooele County since 1894 Our View G-ville rumors absurd Rumors against the Grantsville Police Department are running rampant again. During last year’s mayoral election when incumbent Mayor Byron Anderson ran against former city councilman Craig Anderson, there were vicious rumors that the city’s police department was harassing a Grantsville resident. While that resident has filed a lawsuit against the police, the officers have not been convicted of any wrongdoing whatsoever. And now, over the past several days, rumors are circulating that the Grantsville Police Department is under investigation because illegal substances seized during drug raids are missing from the department’s evidence room. One officer in particular has been named as the “culprit” who stole the drugs. Additionally, it has been falsely stated that the officer has been through drug rehabilitation at least three or four times. Tooele County Sheriff Frank Park told the Transcript-Bulletin that if an inves- tigation was underway involving the Grantsville Police Department, he would certainly know about it. “I have heard nothing whatsoever about any missing drugs in the Grantsville Police evidence room,” Park said Saturday. Grantsville Sgt. Dan Chamberlain said he believes the rumors began because several accused drug dealers/users have recently been arrested. Chamberlain theorizes that friends of those arrested may be spreading the rumors. “I can tell you that if any officer had gone through drug rehab even once, he or she would no longer be a police officer,” Chamberlain said. Grantsville Police Chief Dan Johnson said all his officers undergo random drug tests.
