En is men weer met volle overgave gestart met de karate trainingen. Ook zijn enkele leden, van basis naar voortgezet onderwijs gegaan en hebben nog niet helemaal het ritme te pakken. Wat inhoudt, dat zij wat onregelmatig trainen (huiswerk, toetsen, werkweek? ). Probeer daar snel wat aan te doen !!!! Ook hebben wij helaas afscheid moeten nemen van enkele leden. Verschillende redenen werden hiervoor opgegeven (school, verhuizen …). Maar ook kunnen wij weer enkele nieuwe leden begroeten. Vanaf deze plaats wens ik hen heel veel karateplezier toe. Zelf ben ik in september begonnen bij de gemeente Alkmaar met het project Sport X. Dat betekent dat ik iedere dinsdagmiddag karatelessen geef op basisscholen in Alkmaar. Wat inhoudt dat ik 4 middagen lesgeef op een school en daarna weer verder ga bij een andere school. Zo kan ik in een jaar (min vakantie`s ) 10 scholen bezoeken. Per les 16 kinderen x 2 = 32 p/ school x 10 = 320 kinderen ……………help. Voor de wedstrijd karateka`s Enkele wedstrijden staan al weer op de agenda, zowel op de site als in de Dojo. Houdt de inschrijfdata goed in de gaten. Bij vragen kun je altijd naar de leraren en het wedstrijd secretariaat. Heel veel training plezier. Maar met dromen kom je niet erg ver, dus heb ik deze zomer de beslissing gemaakt om het ook gewoon te gaan doen, mijn huis heb ik verhuurd en op mijn werk onbetaald verlof gekregen. Dus ik ga echt op wereldreis. Het leek mij leuk om jullie eventjes te vertellen over mijn plannen voor het aankomende jaar. Mijn reis gaat als volgt; Ik vlieg 20 september vanaf schiphol naar Moskou in Rusland Vanaf daar pak ik de Transmongolië expres deze rijdt vanaf Moskou helemaal door rusland naar Mongolië. Daar blijf ik 3 dagen en daarna reis ik per trein verder naar Beijin China. In China heb ik een vlucht geboekt naar Vietnam. Eenmaal daar aangekomen begint het grote avontuur. Ik ga vanuit daar backpakkend het land door richting Laos. Daarna door naar Thailand, Maleisië, Indonesië en als alles volgens plan verloopt kom ik eind december in Sydney Australië aan. Mijn planning is om ongeveer 5 maanden in Australie te blijven en daar wat te gaan werken en rond te reizen. En dan eind mei 2010 weer terug te komen in Nederland Ik ga een Website bijhouden dus als je het leuk vind om eens te lezen wat ik allemaal aan het uitspoken ben aan de andere kant van de wereld is het misschien leuk om soms eens eventjes op mijn site te kijken. http://theaschouten.waarbenjij.nu/ allemaal veel succes met trainen dit jaar en wie weet tot volgend jaar!! veel liefs Thea Senryu: De oude Sensei door zijn en concentratie mij en roos geraakt 5 Zomerkamp 2009 Het is alweer een paar maanden geleden, maar in mei van 2009 was het alweer voor de 4e keer tijd voor het ASK zomerkamp. Er gaan natuurlijk veel voorbereidingen vooraf door de vrijwilligers, maar het resultaat is iedere keer weer fantastisch. Voor vier ASK-ers begon het weekeinde op vrijdag om 09.00 uur. Johan, Hilbert, Jerry, Theo en Cees begonnen, nadat de grote legertent was opgehaald in Hoogwoud, aan de klus om de tent op onze vaste stek op de Camping in Bakkum op te zetten. Een zware klus, maar met een aantal karateka’s is dat natuurlijk snel geklaard. Om ongeveer 16.00 uur druppelde iedereen de camping op en ging men snel alle tenten opzetten. Gelukkig ging het dit jaar niet regenen bij het opzetten, en alle tenten werden droog opgezet. Na een broodje en een theetje werden de teams samengesteld en werden wij meegenomen naar het bijgelegen bos voor een speurtocht, waarbij maar weer duidelijk werd dat ASK-ers behoorlijk fanatiek kunnen zijn. Het was alweer bijna donker toen wij terugkeerden bij de tenten, dus na wat napraten en rondrennen, was het voor de jongsten tijd om de eigen tent op te zoeken. Voor de ouderen was het tijd om in de grote tent elkaar sterke verhalen te gaan vertellen, waarbij opviel dat Jose bijzondere verhaaltalenten bezit. Op zaterdagmorgen werd iedereen volgens de traditie vroeg gewekt voor een ochtendloop onder de leiding van Meester Johan. En dat betekend een fikse trimloop over de gehele camping. Daarna was het tijd voor ontbijt en werd energie opgedaan om in teams het traditionele sport en spel parkoers af te leggen. Wederom veel strijd, maar alle teams moedigden elkaar sportief aan. Er viel dan ook veel te lachen, vooral als er weer een emmer water over iemand heen geleegd werd. Gelukkig was het ’s middags weer mooi weer, en toog bijna iedereen naar het strand voor een potje rugby of om lekker te luieren. Ondertussen werd op de camping door een aantal mensen alles in het werk gesteld om de barbecue voor te bereiden, zodat iedereen na een verfrissende douche direct aan kon vallen. Johan en Carla hadden zelfs extra hulptroepen over laten komen om hierbij te assisteren. Na een geweldige maaltijd traden de teams in het strijdperk om een door de teams van te voren ingestudeerd toneelstukje uit te voeren. Er werd weer veel fantasie en muzikaliteit gebruikt. 6 Ook een traditie is het verhaal van Johan, waarbij hij nadat wij allemaal in de Graal hebben plaatsgenomen in een speciale uitdossing een heel oud en spannend verhaal vertelde. Dit keer was hij verkleed als een soort verschrikkelijke harig sneeuwmonster of Jeti. Na het verhaal ging hij in die uitdossing even een stukje de camping over. Dat hebben een aantal meiden die lekker rustig over de camping dachten te fietsen geweten; zij schrokken zich lam. De volgende dag werd de trimloop geskipped, omdat er na een vermoeiende dag te weinig animo voor was. Na het ontbijt werden de tenten en de grote legertent weer afgebroken: tijd om weer huiswaarts te keren. Wat voor hobby’s heb je nog meer naast karate… Voetbal, nu kijk ik alleen nog voetbal. Tennissen vind ik ook leuk om te doen. Van wat voor soort muziek houd je… Ik heb een vrij breed muziekgenre, maar het meest houd ik toch wel van Dance muziek. Bespeel je zelf een muziekinstrument… Ik heb een mengpaneeltje, maar of je dat een muziekinstrument mag noemen? Wat is je lievelingseten… Indisch. Waar ga je het liefst heen op vakantie… Griekenland en Spanje. Heb je huisdieren… Diesel de kat en Sara de vis. Diesel heet hij, omdat hij onder een motorkap van een auto is gevonden. Bleek achteraf, dat hij een ritje van 40 km had gemaakt. Benzine vonden we maar een vreemde naam. Wat is er zo leuk aan jou… Ze zeggen dat ik vaak lach en mijn slappe humor af en toe. Wie is je grote voorbeeld (hoeft niet persé een karateka te zijn)… Beetje saai, maar die heb ik niet. Maar omdat ik nog veel te leren heb, op karate gebied, zijn mijn trainers en medeleerlingen van ASK toch wel mijn voorbeeld. Wie wonen er nog meer bij jou thuis… Ilonka mijn vrouw en mijn kinderen, Charlie en Dean.

Introduction In this paper, we review the history of the Bank of Japan (BOJ) with a focus on the changing role of the central bank and the transformation of the national economy (Table 1). When Japan joined the modern world in the late 19th century as a country with a small and open economy, the Bank was created as an entity to integrate the national financial market and provide liquidity for economic growth. By the early 20th century, Japan had succeeded in joining the modern world and began pursuing its goal as an empire. Under this condition, the Bank played a pivotal role in financing wars and in stabilizing the less-disciplined national financial market. Yet during and after Japan’s losing war with its main trading partners in the 1930s and 1940s, the Bank was overwhelmed by ballooning government debt and rampant post-war inflation. When Japan re-focused its national goal on high economic growth during the 1960s and early 1970s, the Bank was revived as an engine to fuel liquidity into the national economy even without legal independence. Once the Japanese economy reached an advanced stage of development from the 1970s onward, the Bank’s main task changed from providing liquidity for economic growth to stabilizing the domestic economy. In pursuing its task, the Bank has often faced trade-offs between guns and butter, stability and growth, the threat of economic backlash and the moral hazard problem.

Among them, the Showa Financial Crisis of 1927 and the Showa Depression of 1930-31 marked turning points. The Showa Financial Crisis of 1927 was the consequence of persistent financial instability because of the incomplete restructuring in the business sector and postponements in the disposal of bad loans by financial institutions. The crisis brought reforms in the financial sector through large-scale injections of public funds and the amalgamation of banks. The Showa Depression of 1930-31 was caused by the Great Depression, a worldwide economic collapse, which had been intensified in Japan by the return to the Gold Standard at the old parity. Japan escaped from the Great Depression earlier than most other countries through a series of macroeconomic stimulus measures initiated by Korekiyo Takahashi, a veteran Finance Minister who resumed office in December 1931. Takahashi instituted comprehensive macroeconomic policy measures, including exchange rate, fiscal, and monetary adjustments. At the same time, the Gold Standard, which had been governing Japan’s fiscal policy, collapsed in the wake of the British departure from it in September 1931. Then, Japan introduced a mechanism by which the government could receive easy credit from the central bank without establishing other institutional measures to govern its fiscal policy. This course of events resulted in an eventual loss of fiscal discipline.

Colonial Korea and the Olympic Games, 1910–1945 Abstract This dissertation examines how Koreans received and consumed the Olympic Games under Japanese colonial rule (1910–1945). Although a growing body of research on colonial Korea addresses a range of topics beyond politics and economy, sports is still a relatively neglected topic in this field. By exploring Olympic fever in colonial Korea, this study shows how multifaceted aspects of Korean society became a part of the global sports world. Korean athletes participated in the 1932 Summer, 1936 Winter, and 1936 Summer Games as part of the Japanese delegation, attracting much attention from members of all walks of life in colonial Korea.
