The objective of the Systems and Aircraft Communication & Navigation Lead role is to be an expert in the field of operations engineering responsible for the management of: Flight operations engineering systems and infrastructure Continued availability of aircraft communications datalink systems across the business Systems and processes for aircraft and flight planning navigation data. Process improvement coordinating with other senior members of the team. Liaise with stakeholders including Flight Crew, Safety Systems, Product and Engineering Supporting other flight operations engineering functions within the aircraft operations. Including Aircraft Performance, Loading Systems and Fuel Efficiency. Key Accountabilities Accountability Major Activities Air-ground datalink Ensure the highest level of availability and data integrity of communication systems aircraft communication systems and customisations. Proactively identify issues within aircraft connectivity systems. Coordinate with operational systems stakeholders to rectify cross functional systems issues and manage business process changes. Analyse business systems relating to aircraft communications, and end to end processes in the business to determine their effectiveness and impact on aircraft ops. Flight Operations Hardware structure and set-up for team controlled computers Engineering systems and networks. management Oversight of IT functions and infrastructure as it impacts flight operations engineering systems. Manage system improvements and automation projects, focusing team skills pragmatically to improve where team and Aircraft Ops benefit can be realised. Design, implementation and management of airborne and ground based software systems that improve operational efficiency. Navigation Database Management and control of the Jeppesen/Honeywell nav data management for the Flight Management Computer (FMC) on the aircraft. Management and control of Jeppesen navigation data for the flight planning system. Maintain a quality assurance program of standard and customised navigation data in both the flight planning system and aircraft FMC nav databases. Airport and Route Prepare and analyse data for new and proposed routes evaluation, induction and requiring the sourcing, generation and analysis of applicable surveillance information. Prepare Reports and technical analysis of airport capability, payload and enroute for requested routes. Carry out technical inspections of airports and represent Group Aircraft Operations and customer airlines (as appropriate) on Airport Induction Projects, and any additional monitoring that will be required. Maintain state AIP library for aircraft ops reference. Support Aircraft Assist in the oversight of supported aircraft performance Performance functions systems by way of technical analysis and reporting, program validation, training of flight crew and operational support staff. Preparation, analysis and monitoring of aircraft performance data for all flight phases. Support Aircraft Loading Assist in the oversight of supported aircraft loading systems by Systems functions way of technical analysis and reporting, program validation, training of flight crew and operational support staff. Preparation, analysis and monitoring of aircraft loading systems data in supported load control systems. Team Support and Special Provide SME support and management of special projects as Projects directed by Leader Aircraft Operations Technical Support. Provide support to other Aircraft Operations Technical Support teams as required Provide SME support to Aircraft Operations division. Provide expert teaching and guidance in FOE disciplines to flight crew, check and trainers, flight dispatchers and load controllers. Provide a checking and Quality Assurance (QA) function for all aspects of flight operations engineering. Leadership Provide mentoring and guidance to members of the FOE team. On call after hours support As duty flight operations engineer provide support and coverage for all aircraft operations technical support functions. Provide occasional back-up support for the duty FOE for complex troubleshooting. Liaison and Relationship Liaise with Aircraft Operations management, Engineering, Management Customer Service Delivery in the development of shared systems, procedures and operational documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and efficiency. Liaise with relevant authorities, service providers and aerodrome operators (both domestic and international) relating to aircraft performance, weight & balance and aerodrome infrastructure issues. Develop highly effective relationships across the Group with all internal and external customers and stakeholders. Displays respectful and considerate communication and actions.
