The Nativity Early Learning Center Is a Peanut/Nut Free School The Nativity Early Learning Center is a Peanut/Nut Free School Dear Parents and Guardians: Food allergies are on the rise and can cause a severe, systemic, potentially fatal allergic reaction. This in not only through direct ingestion, but can be through smell, and touching of only trace amounts. We want to do all we can to eliminate the possibility of such an occurrence in our center in the future. Why is my child’s school peanut/nut free? The rationale for peanut/nut free schools has to do with the somewhat unique nature of these allergies. Most people with food allergies -- even severe allergies -- can manage their allergies by simply not eating foods that have their allergen in them. They read labels, don’t eat food if they know its origins, and ask questions to stay aware of cross-contamination. People with peanut and tree nut allergies follow all these steps, but there are two limits to this approach. First, it’s possible for people with these allergies to react to traces of nut dust in the air. Second, nuts are full of natural oils that leave residues. While these residues can be removed with common household cleaners, it can be difficult or impossible to clean tables in the middle of lunch, for example, or for school staff to know to clean oils off of tainted walls or doorknobs during the school day. We require that you do not send any lunch items, snacks or birthday treats, which contain peanuts or nuts or are processed on shared equipment. We request your cooperation and thank you in advance for adhering to this policy for the safety of all children. If you accidentally send a peanut and/or nut product with your child (ren), we will send home a friendly reminder. Whenever possible, we will label and return the item that contained nut. Attached you will find Peanut/Nut Free information regarding label reading and a list for peanut/nut free snacks, birthday treats and lunch ideas for the NELC. Thank you so much, Nicole McGie and the Staff at the Nativity Early Learning Center Peanut/Nut Free Information When choosing a peanut/nut-free snack for your child, it is important to ALWAYS check the label on the package to make sure it is free of peanuts and nuts of all kinds. Reading Labels: Some manufacturer’s clearly state if a product has peanuts/nuts in it while with others, it is almost hidden. Please read the label each time, every time. Do not purchase items with allergy and ingredient alerts such as: These items are most likely at the bottom of the ingredient list in bold type. "May Contain Peanuts or Tree Nuts" "Processed on shared equipment with Peanuts or Tree Nuts" "Contains Peanut or Tree Nut Ingredients" “May Contain Traces of Peanuts” Thank you for taking the time to read your labels and discussing the topic of "safe snacks" with your child! Your diligence is keeping an allergic child safe at school' For more peanut free lunch ideas please check out: www.toronto.ca/health/pdf/nm_peanutinsert.pdf http://lenski.littletonpublicschools.net/Portals/34/Forms/Lunch%20ideas%20for%20Lenski%20% 20compat%20version%20_2_.pdf Or just type in Peanut Free Snacks/Lunches in Google search Peanut/Nut-Free Snack, Birthday Treats and Lunch Suggestion List SOY NUT BUTTER: Soy Nut Butter is made from fresh roasted whole soybeans. • Mondelēz Union Network
Mondelēz Union Network What is ? Mondelez is a global snack foods company which came into being on October 2, 2012 when the former Kraft Foods Inc. was split into two, resulting in the creation of two separate companies, both headquartered in the USA. Mondelēz took the “snacks” products (biscuits, confectionery, salty crackers, nuts, gum, Tang), giving it about two-thirds the revenue of the former Kraft. The remaining “grocery” products were stuffed into a North American (only) company now known as Kraft Foods Group. Former Kraft CEO Irene Rosenfeld now heads up Mondelēz. If you worked for the former Kraft or one of its subsidiaries manufacturing or distributing snack products, including former Danone or Cadbury products, you now work for Mondelēz or one of its subsidiaries. In some countries, the name change will not be immediate. Never quite able to pinpoint why he felt that his family was some- how “different” from the others he observed as a young boy growing up in Northwest Indiana, Randy proceeded on with his life, marry- ing, becoming a father, and settling down in Long Beach. That nagging enigma evoked among other things, memories of out-of-earshot conversations between Randy’s grandmother and grandfather. Their words were spoken in a mystifying tongue, one unknown to Randy. And the bits of folk wisdom and remedies from his mother, such as suggesting he go out and find a willow bark branch when he lost his toothbrush, also hinted of the uncommon. Randy said that his family had told him he was of German and French descent, and who was he to question otherwise, with the surname, Vissing? So, it came as a surprise, but not exactly as a shock, when Randolph (a French name) Vissing (a German name) discovered his Shawnee heritage. Lenawe Nilla—I Am Shawnee “I found the information when I was looking for my mother’s birth certificate approximately four years ago,” Randy said. “I discovered that my grandfather had been a full-blooded Shawnee, and my grand- mother, one-half Shawnee.” Before this discovery, the Vissings— Randy, Sue, and Blake had attended sever- Red, yellow, black, green and white beads, ribbons, al public pow feathers and fringe adorn this young lady.

  • Peanut Free Snack List September 6, 2012
Peanut Free Snack List September 6, 2012 Below is a list of snacks which are free from peanuts and have not been manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts. These are considered safe for children with peanut allergies. Please keep in mind this list is current as of August 2012, but manufacturers can change ingredients and/or they may change the facility where they make the product to one which has peanuts. The FDA (the food and drug administration, which is a US government body) requires that manufacturers list all allergens on their package and they must also list when a product is made in a facility which handles allergens. We will attempt to keep you up to date on any changes that may occur, but it is important that you read labels, especially for products not listed. How to read labels: Every product must have a list of its ingredients on the package. One way to read labels is to simply read the ingredient list. If peanuts are not listed, the product is safe. If the product doesn’t have an ingredient list, the contents are unknown and must be considered unsafe. In an effort to simplify reading labels, the FDA now requires manufacturers to list any potential allergens as a separate call‐out on the package. These call outs include such foods as peanuts, milk, wheat, eggs, tree‐nuts, and many other nuts. However, there is not yet consensus on exact terminology for the call‐out. At this point, the most common terms used are: ‐ Allergen information ‐ Contains ‐ May contain ‐ Product manufactured on shared equipment If peanuts are listed on any of these call‐outs, it is not a safe product! Keep in mind‐ Some products are safe if they are packaged one way‐ but not safe if packaged another way.
