Having achieved a notable first by reaching the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals, Bosnia and Herzegovina embark on another adventure in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying, meeting Cyprus for the first time in Group B. Match background • These nations have never met in a senior international. • Bosnia and Herzegovina have taken on Cyprus in three UEFA age-group games, with the record W1 D0 L2. Most recently, the nations were drawn together in 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying. • On 11 October 2011, the Bosnians beat Cyprus 5-1 in Zenica, Edin Višća's penalty (12) and strikes from Nemanja Bilbija (18) and Goran Zakarić (25) combining with an own goal from Marios Antoniades (41) to put the home side 4-0 up by the break. Andreas Pittaras (56) replied with another penalty before Miroslav Stevanović (68) completed the scoring. • Stevanović (47) put his side in front in the return fixture in Cyprus on 12 November 2011, but a strike from Nestor Mytidis (66) and a Slavko Brekalo own goal (89) earned Cyprus a 2-1 win. • The nations' clubs have met in six European games, with the Bosnian sides' record W5 D1 L0 (W3 D0 L0 at home – W2 D1 L0 away).

5 Bosnia and Herzegovina - Cyprus Tuesday 9 September 2014 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Match press kit Stadion Bilino polje, Zenica Head coach Safet Sušić Date of birth: 13 April 1955 Nationality: Bosnian Playing career: FK Krivaja Zavidovići, FK Sarajevo, Paris Saint-Germain, Red Star FC Coaching career: AS Cannes, İstanbulspor AŞ, al-Hilal FC, Konyaspor, MKE Ankaragücü, Rizespor, Ankaraspor, Bosnia and Herzegovina • An outstanding attacking midfielder with an eye for the killer pass and an excellent scoring record, Sušić spent nine years with Sarajevo. Yugoslavia's Footballer of the Year in 1979, he was the Yugoslavian First League's joint-top marksman with 17 goals in 1979/80 as Sarajevo finished runners-up. • Moved to Paris in 1982 and played for nine seasons in the French capital, becoming one of the country's finest-ever footballing imports and helping his side win the French Cup in his first term and the league title in 1985/86. • A long-time stalwart of the Yugoslavia national team, Sušić made his first appearance in 1977 and his last in 1990. Claimed 21 goals in 54 appearances and featured at the 1982 and 1990 FIFA World Cups as well as the 1984 UEFA European Championship. • Launched coaching career in France with Cannes before taking jobs in Istanbul and Riyadh. Eventually settled in Turkey, where he coached four clubs between 2004 and 2008. Named Bosnia and Herzegovina's Golden Player as part of UEFA's jubilee celebrations in 2004, he succeeded Miroslav Blažević as national coach in December 2009. • With Sušić at the helm, Bosnia and Herzegovina reached the qualifying play-offs for UEFA EURO 2012, losing out to Portugal. They then topped their group to seal a spot at the 2014 World Cup – the nation's first qualification for a major tournament – and, after narrow defeats by Argentina and Nigeria, overcame Iran 3-1 to bow out on a high note. Charalambos Christodoulou Date of birth: 17 October 1967 Nationality: Cypriot Playing career: Doxa Katokopia FC, Olympiakos FC, AEK Larnaca FC Coaching career: Doxa Katokopia FC, Olympiakos Nicosia FC, AEL FC, Anorthosis Famagusta FC • Had a modest career as a defensive midfielder in Cyprus, playing for second-tier Doxa between 1985 and 1989, before a five-year stint with Olympiakos where he reached the 1991 final. He finished his playing days with a solitary season at Larnaca. • Moved into coaching aged 39 and immediately steered Doxa to promotion to the top flight, where they stayed throughout Christodoulou's tenure. Earned a reputation for tactical astuteness and an eye for talent in the Portuguese lower leagues. • Guided Olympiakos to sixth in the First Division during his only campaign at the helm. Was rewarded with a switch to AEL, whom he led to a first Cypriot league title since 1968. Also took them to the 2012 Cypriot Cup final, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat by AC Omonia. • His side were ten minutes from the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League group stage, but RSC Anderlecht struck two late goals to send AEL into the UEFA Europa League. Left the club by mutual consent in October 2012. • Christodoulou's most recent post was a caretaker role at Anorthosis at the end of 2012/13, before his appointment as successor to Cyprus coach Nikos Nioplias in January 2014.

EURO finals: The UEFA European Championship was a four-team event in 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1976 (when the preliminary round and quarter-finals were considered part of qualifying).

From 1980 it was expanded to an eight-team finals and remained in that format in 1984, 1988 and 1992 until 1996, when the 16-team format was adopted. UEFA EURO 2016 was the first tournament to be played as a 24-team finals.
