Group C permutations • Fenerbahçe SK have qualified as group winners. • VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach are through as runners-up due to their head-to-head superiority over Marseille. • Marseille and AEL are out. Previous meetings • Marseille won 5-1 when the sides met on matchday two, in what was both sides' first experience of opposition from their adversaries' home countries. Edwin Ouon put AEL ahead but goals from Rod Fanni, Lucas Mendes, Loïc Rémy (2) and André-Pierre Gignac won the day for OM. • French and Cypriot sides have met in eight previous UEFA competition contests, with the French clubs having the better of them, sporting the record W6 D1 L1 (W4 D0 L0 at home – W2 D1 L1 away). That run includes a 10-1 away win for AJ Auxerre at Nea Salamis FC in the 1997 UEFA Cup. • APOEL FC struck a substantial blow for Cypriot football last season, trading 1-0 home wins with Olympique Lyonnais in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 then beating the French club on penalties in Nicosia. Match background • Ouon's goal against OM remains AEL's only strike in Group B. They are the lowest-scoring side in the group stage with just one goal in five matchdays, and have not registered in their last three European games. • Things have gone a bit quiet for OM since they last met AEL too: they have not won a European game in three attempts since (1 draw, 2 defeats). • Marseille have not won any of their Group B away games. Team facts • Eight of Marseille's nine group stage goals have come after the break, five of them between the 76th minute and the final whistle. • Marseille are within two of conceding their 200th UEFA competition goal; this is their 186th European game. • Marseille's Fanni turns 31 on the day of the match – the day after his team-mate Gignac's 27th birthday celebrations. • AEL named Jorge Costa as their new coach on the eve of matchday three, following the dismissal of his predecessor, Charalambos Christodoulou, who led the club to title success last season. As a defender, Jorge Costa captained FC Porto to glory in the 2003 UEFA Cup and 2004 UEFA Champions League and has coached several clubs including SC Braga and, most recently, CFR 1907 Cluj since retiring. • Marseille coach Élie Baup's goalkeeping career ended when he was in a car accident at the age of 20, but he stayed on in the game as a youth coach, moving up to the senior ranks to take charge of AS Saint-Étienne before winning the 1998/99 Ligue 1 title with FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Having coached Toulouse FC and FC Nantes, he became a TV pundit before taking charge at OM in summer 2012.
