  • Shankar Jaikishan – Emperors of Music by Ashwini Kumar Rath
Shankar Jaikishan – Emperors of Music By Ashwini Kumar Rath Shankar Jaikishan music, synonym of Indian Film music, has far reaching impact in India and outside. The duo moulded music and musical mood of masses since 1949, and are still considered to be the best music composers from India. The duo also contributed outside movie industry with their much celebrated album Raga in Jazz Style, and background music for documentary Everest expedition among many others. If we look at the popular impact by any personalities in the field of music during the post-independence period in India, the obvious choice is Shankar Jaikishan. Shankar, the more versatile of the two, was a prolific musician with mastery over dozens of instruments, Indian classical music and dance forms. He was primarily responsible for building Shankar Jaikishan team with dedicated lyricists, music assistants, and jumbo-sized 60-pieces orchestra, and was the lead composer. On the other hand, Jaikishan was incredibly creative and legendary composer himself. He was genius of background music and romantic tunes though he too could compose songs in other genres. While Shankar's musical jhankar propels divine dwellers to zoom in unison with ecstasy, romantic effervescence of Jaikishan music brings divine feelings on to earth. During initial years, all decisions about musical engagements were made by Shankar; but both started taking up assignments separately in the late sixties. They had sharp contrasts in personalities and physical appearances. Shankar was gym-savvy, non- drinker, and was a strict disciplinarian. On the other hand, Jaikishan was party-man and was very social.

If we look at the popular impact by any personalities in the field of music during the post independence period in India, the obvious choice is Shankar Jaikishan. In fact, Jaikishan was mostly the point of contact for producers, directors and actors to incorporate their requests due to his friendly nature. Of course, both were great human beings, and were incredibly simple in spite of fame and richness.

!!"#!$ %! $&%'(("(("&!%&#))*"# !%! $&$&) ' %&+%'$*",-. / 0 Gujarat University Crest The Crest of the Gujarat University symbolically represents both the cultural heritage of Gujarat and the characteristics and aspirations of her people. The most prominent symbols are the dancing peacock and the sculptural architect resting on two pillars and a lamp suspended from its Centre. The dancing peacock, besides, representing its rider, Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning in Indian Mythology, Symbolizes Gujarat’s love for arts and her dignified aesthetic taste. The architect represents the most characteristics feature of Gujarat’s sculpture and is eloquent of her rich heritage; while the two pillars symbolize the solid foundation on which the heritage rests. The lamp suspended from the Centre of the architect is a symbol of learning that dispels the darkness of ignorance and enlightens everything that it encompasses. The lightning at the top of the rectangle and the atomic circles below it symbolize at once the flash of genius and scientific progress and proclaim the avowed ambition of the University to build and maintain a balanced outlook towards Arts and Sciences as indeed towards the life in general. The motto -W W [ is a well - known quotation from the BhagwadGeeta and enjoins on the teachers and the students of the University work, more work and intelligent work, for that alone leads to efficiency and progress. 1 Gujarat University Song 11 CONTENT Page Sr. No. Titles No. A. • 27Th Newsletter January 2015
January 2015 @ th 28 Issue An initiative by Youth Wing of Global Bhatia Foundation For Private Circulation Only The Man Who Followed His Heart How many people will give up a cushy public sector job and plunge into the entirely uncertain world of entrepreneurship? Shirish Anjaria, Chairman, Dynacons Systems & Solutions, did just that. What started as a small-time consultancy firm in 1988 has evolved into a systems and solutions provider—and a name to reckon with in the project-based systems integration (SI) space across the country. The Mumbai-based Dynacons Systems & Solutions, which entered the IT domain by developing and selling financial accounting software, has become a strong player in the storage, managed services and SI space with large customers in the enterprise, BFSI and government verticals. The beginning It was the entrepreneurial bug in Shirish Anjaria that led to the birth of Dynacons Consultancy in 1988. With BSc and LLB degrees, and an additional degree in insurance, Anjaria was then a 44- year-old senior executive at National Insurance Company (NIC). Recalls Anjaria, “I worked at NIC for 18 years, and had a secure job. But I was also restless and wanted to start something of my own. I had a vision to build an organization delivering IT-based solutions to transform businesses, and so started Dynacons Consultancy. Parag Dalal, an engineering graduate, and one of the employees at Dynacons Consultancy, co-founded Dynacons Systems & Solutions with me in 1995.” Dynacons was converted into a public limited company in January 2000. “Even though we were doing well selling software solutions, our customers started expecting us to meet their hardware requirements as well,” Anjaria says.
