  • Crazy Steelin' Rhythm – Song Notes 1. Four Steps West – This
Crazy Steelin’ Rhythm – Song Notes 1. Four Steps West – This instrumental was recorded around 1952 by Hank Garland but never released. Pedal steel guitarist Don Davis’ playing is reminiscent of Speedy West. 2. Out of Odessa - This song is a Tom Hammel composition, written specifically for this album. Hammel created this song by putting together some basic jazz chords and creating a middle 8 part that starts off with a minor chord. After jamming with some scratch tracks, he came up with a melody. When he did, he was surprised to find that the middle 8 section sounded like what a Russian national anthem might sound like. His late father was born in the Ukraine near Odessa, and had to leave the area during WWII, hence the title “Out of Odessa”. 3. Tenderly - A popular song and Jazz standard published in 1946. Notable versions have been recorded by singers, such as Sarah Vaughan and Nat King Cole, and pianists, such as Art Tatum, Bill Evans and Peruchín. 4. Cherry - Harry James originally recorded a version of this song in 1942 with his orchestra. Discovery of this song for Tom was a video of Doc Martin, steel guitarist, playing the song in the 1950's on The Ozark Jubilee TV show. 5. Crazy Rhythm - This song was first recorded for Victor by Roger Wolfe Kahn and His Orchestra in New York City in April 1928. Many artists covered the song including Bob Wills and his band who performed the song as an instrumental. 6. Si Tu Vois Ma Mere – This song was written in 1952 by Sidney Bechet after triumphing at the 1949 Paris Jazz Festival.

PO Box 1236 Saratoga Springs NY 12866 USA sarah vaughan series the man i love (1963) Sarah Vaughan Biography: Sarah Lois Vaughan was born on March 27, 1924, in Newark New Jersey. She was born into a very musical churchgoing family, and this gave her the chance to discover and begin developing her stunning abilities at an early age. She began piano lessons while in elementary school, and played and sang in the church choir, as well as during church services. During her teens she began seriously performing and attending nightclubs, and while she did eventually attend an arts-based high school, she dropped out before graduating to focus on her burgeoning musical exploits. Encouraged by a friend or friends to give the famous career-making Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York City a try (the exact date and circumstances are debated), she sang Body and Soul and won. This led to her coming to the attention of Earl Hines, whose band at the time was a revolutionary group at the forefront of the bebop movement.

  • The "Stars for Freedom" Rally
National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior Selma-to-Montgomery National Historic Trail The "Stars for Freedom" Rally March 24,1965 The "March to Montgomery" held the promise of fulfilling the hopes of many Americans who desired to witness the reality of freedom and liberty for all citizens. It was a movement which drew many luminaries of American society, including internationally-known performers and artists. In a drenching rain, on the fourth day, March 24th, carloads and busloads of participants joined the march as U.S. Highway 80 widened to four lanes, thus allowing a greater volume of participants than the court- imposed 300-person limitation when the roadway was narrower. There were many well-known celebrities among the more than 25,000 persons camped on the 36-acre grounds of the City of St. Jude, a Catholic social services complex which included a school, hospital, and other service facilities, located within the Washington Park neighborhood. This fourth campsite, situated on a rain-soaked playing field, held a flatbed trailer that served as a stage and a host of famous participants that provided the scene for an inspirational performance enjoyed by thousands on the dampened grounds. The event was organized and coordinated by the internationally acclaimed activist and screen star Harry Belafonte, on the evening of March 24, 1965. The night "the Stars" came out in Alabama Mr. Belafonte had been an acquaintance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. since 1956. He later raised thousands of dollars in funding support for the Freedom Riders and to bailout many protesters incarcerated during the era, including Dr.

  • Yellow and Orange Delivery Back to Business Flyers
Did you know... The citrus industry began in San Bernardino County in 1857 when Anson Van Leuven planted six orange trees on his farm and people drove miles to get them.Captain Nathaniel Pishon planted the first large grove in the area, and Lewis Cram planted 1,500 trees in 1874. The first National Orange Show in 1911 was held in a tent on the corner of 4th and “E” Street to promote the citrus industry. It was the brainchild of Harry Parkins who brought the idea to W.W. Brison who was the president of the San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce. The popularity of the National Orange Show grew so the second show in 1912 moved to its new location on 2nd and “E” Street. The directors of the Orange Show needed a permanent home so they bought 42 acres at Mill and “E” Street. In July 1949, the Exhibition Building constructed in 1925 was destroyed by a fire. It was almost 100,000 square feet and was the largest structure of its type in California. The stadium was developed by the National Orange Show and the federal government in 1935 as an “unemployment relief project”. Its construction provided employment for hundreds over a two-year period. Bob Hope and Tex Ritter were among the silver screen celebrities appearing on the entertainment stage in 1951. Hope performed for 13 consecutive years. Did you know... The Swing Auditorium was built in 1949 and named after California state senator, Ralph Swing. Swing was one of the founders of the first National Orange Show in 1911 and served as manager and later board president.
