Continue along this road for Brenchley approximately 3 miles. As you enter the village, go past the church Pembury on your left hand side, and Citrus is approximately 500 yards further, Royal on your left hand side, before the Half Moon Public House. Tunbridge A21 A264 Wells From the M20 Leave the M20 at junction 4 (signposted to West Malling, Rochester, Tonbridge, A228), and join the A228 towards Tonbridge. Continue onto the A227, and then turn right onto the B245 (signposted to Hildenborough). Continue into Hildenborough, and Citrus is located on the right hand side just past the Volvo dealership. From Tunbridge Wells Follow the A26 through Southborough, continuing into Tonbridge. Go straight through the High Street, until you reach Tonbridge School on your left. At this point take the left hand fi lter lane which leads straight into Hildenborough. Continue along this road for approximately 1.5 miles, until you reach a Volvo dealership on your right hand side. Citrus are 50 yards beyond Volvo, on the right. Approximate journey times via car: From Maidstone Dartford Tunnel: 30 minutes Follow the A26 through to Hadlow and carry on into Tonbridge. Maidstone: 35 minutes At the T junction turn right, and follow the directions from Tonbridge London (car): 1 hour School as above.     KENT BEE-KEEPERS' ASSOCIATION County Newsletter No.S4 September 2016 Kent Beekeepers Associations Tent 2016 The beekeepers from the four associations in Kent (Dover, Kent, Medway and Thanet) came together to provide an exhibition showing how we keep bees and the range of the activities that covers. We aim to introduce the general public to bees and beekeeping and to explain some of the importance of bees to the economy and our diet. The stands inside the tent for the general public covered the products of pollination, examples of bee friendly plants, hive to jar covering where honey comes from and how the honey is extracted, candle making, Sheppey Honey Products (group that involves prisoners in beekeeping activities) and opportunities to purchase honey and wax products. Our two observation hives were, as ever, very busy. The Bumble Bee, Wasps and Hornets display always draws a lot of interest and we were again pleased to have the assistance of the Bumble Bee Trust volunteers. We aim to provide activities for all groups so include candle-rolling, badge-making and solitary bee house building primarily for young people but we found that people of all ages had a go. The beekeepers and potential beekeepers are not left out as our Education and Information stand was very busy. Outside the tent, we have two activities. Next to the entrance to the tent was our skep-making demonstration. In the fenced area at the end of the tent was the area used to run a series of "Uve bee demonstrations" during the day. All the demonstrators are from our local associations and Sheppey Honey Products and all the four demonstrations per day were very well attended.

An early-enclosed woodland-pastoral system of agriculture gave rise to 1 JAYNE SEMPLE weak manorial organisation. This gave freedom to customary tenants, who were in effect freeholders, to run their affairs as they chose. Gavelkind. or partible inheritance, encouraged people to stay in their native places to work their own land but also to develop other trades to supplement their incomes. Tenants who became tanners took advantage of local cattle herds, plentiful local water and extensive oak woods, which yielded bark to make tannin, the essential ingredient for making leather. Little physical evidence of the Wrotham tanneries survives. Their existence, and that of the tanners who worked them in the fifteenth a n d sixteenth centuries, has been pieced together from documentary sources most of which were found in the Centre for Kentish Studies.

The Borough Council, working with a wide range of partners, have embraced the benefit of strategic planning over decades. That has been beneficial in shaping development and properly addressing needs for homes, jobs and supporting facilities in a planned way. Moving forward the continuation of that approach is ever more challenging, but in providing a sustainable and planned approach to our borough and providing for local needs this Plan takes on that challenge. This Local Plan relates closely to the borough and communities it will serve. It reflects national planning policy and shapes that locally, based on what is seen locally as the most important planning issues taking account of locally derived evidence.
