A 1971 graduate of University of Notre Dame, Theismann received All-American honors and led the Fighting Irish to consecutive Cotton Bowls and was runner-up to Jim Plunkett in the Heisman Trophy balloting. In 2003, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. After turning down offers from the Minnesota Twins and Miami Dolphins, Theismann began his pro career in the Canadian Football League, spending three years with the Toronto Argonauts before joining the Redskins in 1974. From the humble beginnings as a punt returner to Super Bowl Champion, Theismann has experienced many of the challenges we all face in our constant quest to find success, by overcoming adversity. As a 12-year NFL veteran, Theismann played in 163 consecutive games from 1974 to 1985 and holds the Redskin record for passing yards, completions and attempts. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection and led the Redskins to a 27-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XVII. In 1982, Theismann was elected the NFL’s Man of the Year for his community service and dedication to the health and welfare of children. In 1983, he won the league’s MVP award. Then, in 1985, his career was abruptly cut short when his leg was shattered in a game against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. As an actor, Theismann appeared in Cannonball Run II and The Man with Bogart's Face, and on the small screen he played himself in the TV series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Necessary Roughness.” He has also starred in the TV movie “The Man from Left Field,” and in the Hallmark Original “Love on the Sidelines.” Today, Theismann oversees a popular Washington, DC restaurant that bears his name. Staying true to his concern for children, he is a member on the Sports Advisory Board of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. # # # ED MARINARO (Coach Kerrigan) – Ed Marinaro was born in New York City and raised in New Milford, New Jersey, where his athletic career began. As a heavily recruited high school football and basketball player, Marinaro chose Cornell University, foregoing over 50 scholarship offers, and the rest, as they say, is history. During his three-year varsity career, Marinaro set almost every Ivy League and N.C.A.A. record for running the football. A three-time All-American, he became the first player in college football history to gain over 4,000 yards in a career (4715), and he set 16 other N.C.A.A. records for rushing, scoring and all-purpose running. His career average of 176.4 yards per game is still an N.C.A.A. record. Receiving the prestigious Maxwell Trophy, he was the A.P. and U.P.I. player of the year, and finished second in the Heisman Trophy ballot. In 1991, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and a year later, he was voted the Ivy League Player of the Era. Drafted in 1972 by the Minnesota Vikings, Marinaro became the first rookie to start for Hall of Fame coach Bud Grant. During his career with the Vikings he helped lead the team to consecutive Super Bowls in 1973 and 1974. The following year, his 54 catches ranked third in the N.F.C. and his 11 catches against the San Diego Chargers was a Viking record. In 1976, Marinaro fulfilled a childhood dream and returned to his birthplace to play with the New York Jets. At mid-season he was leading the team in rushing, scoring and receiving and coming off two consecutive 100-yard rushing games when he sustained a career-ending foot injury and was forced into retirement. After moving to Los Angeles in 1978, it didn’t take long for Marinaro to distinguish himself in his new career as an actor. His rugged good looks and charisma led to a role on the hit show “Laverne & Shirley,” but it was his portrayal of Officer Joe Coffey on the Emmy®-winning “Hill Street Blues” that made him one of Hollywood’s most versatile leading men. After his seven- year run on the series, Marinaro went on to become one of the stars of NBC’s critically acclaimed drama “Sisters,” which lasted for six years. Marinaro has also become known for his role as Coach Marty Daniels in Spike TV’s comedy hit, “Blue Mountain State,” which ran for three seasons and released a follow-up feature film. In addition to starring in over 25 feature films and TV movies, Marinaro has been a sought-after spokesman for such products as Miller beer and Fruit of the Loom, to name a few. Other work includes Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva” and the film Love & Debt, with Tom Cavanagh and Bellamy Young. Despite his busy schedule, Marinaro takes time to lend his support to many charities, which include hosting the Boca Grande Classic Fishing Tournament to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. An avid fisherman, Marinaro enjoys other hobbies, which include golf and skiing. -- HALLMARK CHANNEL -- .

  • 100 Years of Hilltopper Drama Marshall Athletics: More Than Just A
Marshall Athletics: More than Just a Game 100 Years of Hilltopper Drama Fall 2009 FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT It sure seems as if the year goes by quickly. As Board members, it is our responsibility to make sure Marshall is here for generations to come. The role of the Board is to focus on the long-term future of the school and to plan initiatives that keep our school strong. This past year we completed a thorough strategic planning process that gathered feedback and input from students, parents, teachers, school alumni, trustees, and friends of the school. Based on this feedback, the Board identified Strategic Principles that will guide us for the next several years in the following areas: Program Differentiation, Global Connections, Marshall’s Mission in Curriculum and Community, Sustainability, and Facilities. In the fall the Board will adopt specific initiatives for each principle and will communicate them with our Hilltopper community. In mid-October, we welcomed Gene Bratek as the Interim Head of School. Gene will lead the school for the remainder of the school year when a permanent Head of School will be named. His depth of experience allows us to begin implementation of our strategic plan that continues the forward momentum the school has had over the years. As I enter the last year of my nine years on the Board, I’d like to extend a thank you to the many individuals who have made sacrifices and contributions to move our school forward. I have been especially impressed by the dedication and hard work of our teachers, staff and MARSHALL SCHOOL parents.

‘BEST CHRISTMAS PARTY EVER’ PRODUCTION BIOS LEWIS CHESLER (Executive Producer) – Lewis Chesler is one of the first producers of material for the alternative television market and since has produced TV shows that stretch the boundaries of the medium beyond the conventional programming of the standard broadcasters. In a field where innovation is often discouraged, Chesler has nonetheless managed extraordinary success. He is now known for Independent features, art action pieces and award winning action adventure pieces for the family. A native of Cleveland, Chesler attended Amherst College, studying cultural history and graduating with highest honors after writing his thesis on television’s impact on political consciousness in the mass society. He worked his way through college, spending summers in the Cleveland steel mills and his winter vacations working on merchant vessels, traveling around the world. Following college, he joined the Peace Corps. In the mid-70’s, Chesler became artistic director of the Long Beach Performing Arts Centre. He produced a series of plays there, starring, among others, Stockard Channing, Jill Clayburgh, Stacey Keach, James Whitmore and Eddie Albert. He also booked the opera house, the sports arena, two theaters and the rock concert forum. He started his television career with a series of variety shows and “The Hitchhiker” series for HBO. Chesler conceived the show, its style, look and direction and brought together the main creative elements, including Academy Award®-nominated writers and actors and internationally prominent directors. One of the most enduring aspects of Chesler’s efforts during “The Hitchhiker” was the encouragement of industry acceptance of cable programming as a venue to showcase top film directors and actors such as Paul Verhoeven, Phillip Noyce, Wayne Wang, Willem Dafoe, Klaus Kinski, Kirstie Alley and Helen Hunt.
