Jordan A Greentours Itinerary Day 1 Arrive Jordan Our direct British Airways flight arrives late in the evening so we’ll stay the first night in Madaba, just half an hour from the airport. Days 2 - 5 The Northern Hills, Ajlun, Jerash, and the Syrian border The hills that form the east bank of the Jordan Valley may come as a surprise to the first-time visitor to Jordan. Covered in a beguiling mix of olive groves, terraces, villages and some rather fine indigenous forest, they have a very rich natural as well as cultural heritage. The latter of course will play a significant part on our tour and so we’ll take time out to enjoy the Roman ruins at Jerash, the wonderful situation of Roman Pella, and the fairy-tale ruins of the Arab-built Crusader period castle that looms over Ajlun. However it is the fauna and flora that will take most of our attention. The hills reach around four thousand feet above sea level along their length, actually four thousand two hundred feet above the almost subtropical Jordan River in the valley below. The hills have a largely European avifauna but as one descends things become more exotic with first Blackstarts and Spectacled Bulbuls, and then White-throated Kingfisher and Little Green Bee- eater. The same is true of the flowers with the highest hills having an almost alpine component and the valley a rich mixture of Middle-eastern plants. Ajlun, a new nature reserve protecting an area of natural evergreen oak forest, is right on the very tops of the hills. -

We suggest a method of constructing red numbers for plant species, in order to set priorities in con- servation policy. The red number is an additive index, summarising values of four parameters: 1. Rarity – The number of sites (1 km2) where the species is present. A rare species is defined when present in 0.5% of the area or less. 2. Declining rate and habitat vulnerability – Evaluate the decreasing rate in the number of sites and/or the destruction probability of the habitat. 3. Attractivity – the flower size and the probability of cutting or exploitation of the plant. 4. Distribution type – scoring endemic species and peripheral populations. The plant species of Israel were scored for the parameters of the red number. Three hundred and seventy (370) species, 16.15% of the Israeli flora entered into the “Red List” received red numbers above 6. “Post Mortem” analysis for the 34 extinct species of Israel revealed an average red number of 8.7, significantly higher than the average of the current red list. -

S. Al-Zwainy Faculty of Engineering, Isra University, Amman, Jordan ABSTRACT This research paper gives a historic overview of the Palestnian architecture from the ancient times until today. The first chapter treats the ancient architecture. It introduces us to the first architectural findings on the territory of Palestine and the earliest Palestinian houses. We will see the differences of styles and buildings in prehistoric and ancient times from those built during Roma-Byzantine rule and later during ancient Greek-Roman influence. It is the time of the emergence and spread of Christianity, thus the period of building its temples - the churches. With the conquest of Palestine by the Arabs and islamization of the country the architecture suffers changes and is influenced by this new religion and new lifestile. Jerusalem becomes the beacon of islamic religion and culture. This period is the subject of the second chapter that gives us overview of the Palestinian architecture starting from Arabs installation in the 7th century and the crusaders wars, followed by the rule of Mamluk's dynasty. We finalize this period of influence in the Palestinian architecture with the rule of the Ottoman Empire. Despite the change of religions and cultures, churches and mosques are being constructed in each rule. -

Such approach requires substantial economic and logistical costs which limit this application. In this context, this paper presents the use of photogrammetric workflow, based on Structure from Motion techniques (SfM) to derive 3D metric information from Struc- ture-and-Motion images. The interdisciplinary 3D modeling framework consists of fusion of multi resolution images from both overlapped low-altitude aerial and multi-view terrestrial imagery. The acquisition of aerial photographs survey was based on archived oblique aerial stereo pair photos acquired from the Aerial Photographic Archive for Archaeology in the Middle East (APAAME) project, while terrestrial of close range photos covering the castle walls has been ac- quired using portable camera. -

It boasts a 600- year-old mosque and is overlooked by the ruined Ajloun Castle, built in 1184 to defend against the Crusaders. We hike between villages visiting handicraft workshops which are socioeconomic development projects managed by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) to help benefit underprivileged local communities. South of Amman, among the vast rocky mountainous deserts, is Petra. We take the scenic route, hiking an ancient Nabataean route to access this massive site “through the back door.” Upon arrival, we spend several hours exploring Petra’s lesser known corners before departing for the Dead Sea, the site of AdventureNEXT Near East. Itinerary rating: Moderate (3) – Good physical fitness required. Note: Day 2 will be a long day with a lengthy transfer from Ajloun to Little Petra for a total of ~5 hours of driving over the course of the day. -
My Trip to Jordan
My Trip to Jordan Whenever family and friends comment on my wanderlust, I’m compelled to remind them I’ve only been to 22 countries in my lifetime, and while that might seem like a high number to some it only constitutes about eleven percent of the world’s total. I think what impresses people most is the frequency of my travels, having been to 18 countries in just the last seven years. My seniority at the United States Postal Service allows me five weeks of vacation leave annually, and I try to utilize as much of this time for world travel as I can. What I seldom explain to people is why I’ve chosen the countries I have visited. For the most part I’ve been narrowing my selection process to include one of two basic criteria. Global warming aside, the world is changing rapidly. There have been fundamental societal shifts in the past three decades, facilitated in no small part by new technologies that have connected the people of this planet like never before, modernizing and shrinking the world all at the same time. For this reason I’ve focused much of my recent travels on those emerging countries that are quickly transforming themselves via technology and modern industry. In other words, I want to experience these cultures before even the most rural of villages acquires WiFi. I must admit, though, it is becoming harder and harder to find such places. The other basic consideration affecting my travel plans is a bit more drastic, based on dire geopolitical developments over the past fifteen years. -
