Slaughter interacted with some of the biggest historical figures of the area, helping to track Apache Chief and crossing paths with and Pancho Villa. He was elected into the position just five years after one of the most famous gunfights in the region at the O.K. Corral. His former home, located in a serene setting near Douglas, now stands as a monument to his life and the times he lived through. The former cattle ranch with lush green pastures is adjacent to the San Bernardino National Wildlife Refuge. Visitors can take a tour inside the ranch house and outbuildings, as well as take a relaxing hike to the site of a former military camp and look out across the San Pedro River right into Mexico. www.SlaughterRanch.com
