Getting to Vit Vellore Campus Getting to Vit Chennai Campus GETTING TO VIT VELLORE CAMPUS LOCATION : The VIT campus is located on a 370 acre site on the Ranipet – Katpadi Road. It is 2½ hours drive from Chennai (Formerly Madras) by Road and 4 hours from Bangalore (considered the silicon valley of India). Both the cities are well connected by road, rail and air routes with all parts of the country and also have international airports. The airport nearest to Vellore is in Chennai. From the airport, you can go to the bus stand at Koyambedu or to the Central Railway Station to take a bus or train to Vellore. Train and bus services to Vellore are frequent, cheap and quite satisfactory. Either journey takes about 2½ hours. If you choose to travel by train, you should buy your ticket to Katpadi Railway Station which is just 3 km away from VIT. Buses from Chennai will bring you right to the centre of the town of Vellore from where you can reach VIT which is about 5 km from the bus stand. TRANSPORTATION IN VELLORE : Auto Rickshaws (on share basis) are easily available from both Railway station and bus stand to Chitoor bus stop. Government Buses will fly between Chittoor bus stop to VIT. You could also hire exclusive auto rickshaws to reach VIT. GETTING TO VIT CHENNAI CAMPUS LOCATION: VIT University Chennai Campus is located midway between Vandalur Zoo and Kelambakkam in South Chennai in the State of Tamil Nadu. It is 30 km away from Chennai International Airport and 42 km away from Chennai Central Junction. It is easily accessible by Metro Train and Deluxe Buses from both Chennai Airport and Central Railway Junction. The nearest Metro Station is Vandalur Zoo, which is 9 Km from the campus. The campus can be reached by MTC Bus Route No. 555, 556, 115 and 55 from Tambaram bound for Tiruporur/Kelambakkam via Melkottaiyur. From Vandalur Zoo, Van services and shared auto services are also available. Reaching from Chennai Airport: You can reach the campus within 30 minutes by taxi. From Airport one has to drive via Pallavaram, Chromepet, Tambaram, and Vandalur Zoo on the National Highway - NH45. From Vandalur Zoo one has to take a left turn on the road adjacent to Zoo leading to Kelambakkam [in less than 9 Kms] By Train: If you arrive at Chennai Central Railway station, you can move to Park Town Station (Opposite to Central Station). From there you can reach Vandalur Zoo by Metro Trains bound for Chengalpattu. During peak hours you will find trains bound for Tambaram every 5 minutes. You can get down at Tambaram Junction and reach the campus by bus. By Bus: Vandalur Zoological Park is well connected by Deluxe and Luxury buses plying from major locations of Chennai. From Vandalur Zoo, one can reach either by auto or van. .

INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the Project site The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority's (CMDA) another unique project is the Chennai Muffusil Bus Terminus (CMBT), set up at the periphery of the city a long Jawaharlal Nehru Salai (Inner Ring Road) at Koyambedu, Chennai. It is Asia's biggest bus terminus constructed at a cost of Rs. 103 crores functioning since 18-11- 2002. The terminal with aesthetically pleasing and functionally good buildings and spaces was designed by a renowned Architect taking in to account of the future requirements also. The bus terminus is located in an area of 36 acres with the total built up area 17840 sq.ft. which includes main terminal hall, bus fingers, large office space, shops, maintenance shed, crew rest rooms and other incidental structures. Subsequently, CMDA is planning the development of New Mofussil Bus Terminus (NMBT) along with the periphery of Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA) with the objective of relieving the congestion within the city and also for catalyzing the even dispersal of urban growth.
