Dawn Michaelson, CV CREATIVE SCHOLARSHIP

Nine of my creative scholarship designs have been accepted and exhibited in national and international juried exhibitions (2 at the undergraduate level), for which I am the sole designer or listed as the first designer with collaborative work. A few of my designs were featured in multiple exhibitions (i.e. 1 design in 2 exhibitions), mainly to showcase designs at the University level along with at professional conferences.

When evaluating juried design exhibitions, it is important to recognize the percentage of acceptance for each exhibition (the lower percentage acceptance rate equates to a higher quality exhibition) and the reputation of the organization. Evaluating both aspects of juried exhibitions is equivalent to ranking the quality of scholarly journals. Fortunately, many of my design exhibitions were accepted at venues with acceptance rates of 40% and lower. Retrieval methods of written abstracts and/or images vary per exhibition vary and evolve as organizations and technology evolves.

Working in this style allows the designer to experiment with design by not following the conventional rules of traditional patternmaking but by using one’s intuition to explore design creatively.
