Tomasello defeated 2017 Illinois graduate Zane Richards by a 12-6 decision in the third- place match to claim his first career national team spot. The four-time All-American at Ohio State entered the event as the No. 7 seed in the 57kg bracket but wrestled his way into the top three at the event. “Obviously, we’re very excited for Nathan,” Duke head coach Glen Lanham said. “Not just what this does for him but also what it does for our program. When you look at the type of staff we’ve put together, you have a guy that’s training at the top level of our sport. It’s great for our smaller guys, our lightweights in the room, just to be around that type of person and training with him. It’s a big bonus for all of us no doubt.” Tomasello’s attention will now turn to training in preparation for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, on August 1-7, 2021. Tomasello will train with direct qualifier and first-place finisher Thomas Gilman as well as fellow alternate and current Cornell wrestler Vito Arujau. #GoDuke Alex McKeon Communications Staff Assistant | Duke Athletics Duke Athletics External Operations | Box 90557 | Durham, NC 27708 Office: 919.684.2668 | Cell: 617.909.2034.
