Top Incoming Freshmen of 2017 TOP INCOMING FRESHMEN OF 2017 TOP INCOMING FRESHMEN THE PENNSYLVANIA’S TIF OF 2017 FUTURE IS HERE The Top Incoming Freshmen Report of 2017 is a preview of Pennsylvania’s talented youth wrestlers who will attempt to make an impact in their first season of high school The next Pennsylvania competition. Compiled by PA Power Wrestling’s Jeff Upson Wrestling Stars will soon the TIF of 2017 ranks the Top 75 freshmen and includes 31 arrive and PA Power Wrestling gives you the Honorable Mentions for a total of 106 wrestlers. first look. Pennsylvania’s Top Incoming Freshmen have faced high expectations but always seem to live up to that hype. The top ranked freshmen over the last five years have all been highly 2016’s TIF successful in their first year and careers. Going back through Julian Chlebove the years the highest ranked TIF included Michael Kemerer (2012), Luke Pletcher (2013), Spencer Lee (2014), Gavin Northampton Area Teasdale (2015), and Julian Chlebove (2016). The last four PIAA State Champion all won a PIAA State Championship in their freshman season. All wrestlers who call Pennsylvania home and have competed as Youth wrestlers in the Keystone State are considered for the 2017 TIF Report. The ranking is designed to showcase those freshmen who are likely to find success in their rookie seasons. Included are wrestlers who will compete in the PIAA and the National Preps, even if a Pennsylvania wrestler elects to attend a private school outside of the State. Bartlett spent much of his childhood in Arizona but has strong ties to Pennsylvania. His father grew up in Pennsylvania and in 2014 Beau and his family moved to Kingston, PA where he enrolled at the Wyoming Seminary Lower School. Competing for the X-Caliber Wrestling Club the youth star continued to impress on the mat representing Team Pennsylvania. In 2015 Beau was simply perfect winning nearly every tournament 1 TOP INCOMING FRESHMEN OF 2017 he entered. After finishing as a runner-up the previous two seasons Beau grabbed a Tulsa Nationals Championship at 101 lbs. and followed it up with a Schoolboy Pennsylvania State Championship in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman. The next feat Bartlett captured is considered one of the most significant achievements in a youth career; the USA Wrestling National Championship Triple Crown. The first leg was the USAW Folkstyle Schoolboy Nationals that he captured in sudden victory over Jacob Dado of Illinois. The second and third legs of the Triple Crown came slightly easier for Beau as he won all five matches in Freestyle by tech-fall without surrendering a single point. In Greco-Roman Bartlett earned three falls and a tech-fall en route to winning the Triple Crown Championship for the first time in his youth career. After finishing as the Super 32 Runner-up in 2014 Bartlett continued his dominance in 2015 capturing the Championship title with three falls, a major decision, and a tech-fall in the finals at 120 lbs. The name Beau Bartlett became a household name in January 2016 when the eighth grader turned heads at the Eastern States Classic when he dominated his way to a Championship at 113 lbs. Competing against high school wrestlers Beau picked up two falls and three technical-falls to advance into the finals where he faced Nationally ranked Tommy Cox. Bartlett downed Cox, a N.C. State recruit and 2016 New York State Champion, by a (12-5) score. Following the Championship Wyoming Seminary head coach Scott Green stated Beau Bartlett was the best wrestler in the gym which is an incredible compliment considering New York studs Yianni Diakomihalis and Vito Arujau were present. When asked about Bartlett’s rookie season coach Green asserted “Beau will step into our line-up immediately with the expectation that he will compete for a National Title. He is a tireless worker and a student of the sport. I can't imagine anyone more prepared for their high school career than Beau, and we are thrilled to have him joining us every weekend.” Slated to compete at 120 lbs. this season Bartlett will be one of the top wrestlers in the Nation and as coach Green stated he will compete for a National Prep Championship. Beau has the opportunity to compete for one of the top programs in the Nation with a talented practice room and challenging schedule. 2. Settle back with a warm blanket, a roaring fire and your favorite holiday beverage and enjoy (at least parts of) this Big Red sports update. Not even the Grinch can ruin this season for a Cornell hockey fan. Hockey, Hockey, Hockey What’s happening right now to the Cornell hockey teams is about as good as it gets. Men’s Hockey won its first ten games before an upset loss at Dartmouth in its last game before the exam break. The Big Red are No. 3 in both national polls and have the second-best PairWise ranking (used by the NCAA tournament committee for selection and seeding). Women’s Hockey has been just about as good. The Red women are 11-1-1, the only blemishes on their record being a tie at No. 6 Clarkson (while Cornell was without two key players, who were off competing for Team Canada), and a loss at No. 5 Ohio State. The Big Red are No. 4 in both national polls and, like the men, have the second-best PWR in the country. How they got there—Men’s Hockey Version. After opening the season with two wins at Michigan State, the Big Red rolled off eight more in a row, defeating, among others, No. 4 Clarkson and No. 17 Harvard, as well as always tough Quinnipiac and Boston University (in Madison Square Garden). The loss at Dartmouth just before the break was an unfortunate but understandable occurrence. Coming off a huge win at Harvard the night before, and perhaps looking ahead to exams, the holidays and a big tournament in Vegas in the new year, Cornell was a little flat early, got behind and trailed for all but three and half minutes of the game.

Tomasello defeated 2017 Illinois graduate Zane Richards by a 12-6 decision in the third- place match to claim his first career national team spot. The four-time All-American at Ohio State entered the event as the No. 7 seed in the 57kg bracket but wrestled his way into the top three at the event. “Obviously, we’re very excited for Nathan,” Duke head coach Glen Lanham said. “Not just what this does for him but also what it does for our program. When you look at the type of staff we’ve put together, you have a guy that’s training at the top level of our sport. It’s great for our smaller guys, our lightweights in the room, just to be around that type of person and training with him. It’s a big bonus for all of us no doubt.” Tomasello’s attention will now turn to training in preparation for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, on August 1-7, 2021. I apologize for such a long absence but I was busy fighting Australian bush fires, saving baby Koala bears and finishing up work with the CDC, cracking the genome code for the coronavirus. My past-times aside the most exciting news is that the Friedman Center expansion and renovation project is moving along smoothly. The foundation walls have been poured and we are on schedule for our mid-August move in date. If you happen to be in the area please stop by for a tour. You will notice that every room no doubles as a storage center and the locker room is currently housed in what was actually the storage room! Despite the absence of our Olympic Red-shirts, and the injuries to Colton Yapoujian and Brandon Womack, the team has demonstrated amazing resilience and tenacity. I don’t recall a team show so much growth and development throughout a season. Once the C goes on the chest our guys wrestle 5 points better than their resume! Three Quarter Year Update 125 Dom Lajoie: You simply cannot work as hard, and care as much as Dom, and not improve. To that end Dom has been rewarded for his obsessive pursuit of excellence. I cannot say enough about what Dom’s brings to our team. He is extremely coachable and has made many significant technical and strategic adjustments which have enabled him to be nationally competitive.
