I am happy to say that the STOGA membership continues to increase as we locate more old girls through Facebook and word of mouth which is wonderful. We now have 1000 old girls as “facebook friends”. Look up Teresa Effi ngham on Facebook to fi nd us and ask to be a friend. You will most likely fi nd many old class mates on there and you will be able to get in touch with them if you wish. We had a fantastic turnout to the School Reunion in October and it was wonderful to see so many familiar as well as many new faces. Sadly Cynthia Snowden (ex maths teacher from the 1970/80’s) who posted a wonderful video on YouTube of staff and girls in the 1970’s and was planning to join us did not make it due to illness. SPRING COUNTRY WALK – CHILWORTH/ST MARTHA’S 8th March 2016

This was a very enjoyable circular walk with a real variety of scenery and terrain. Ranging from woodlands, open fi elds with magnifi cent views to grapevines and lakes. We walked up the hills, past cows with bells and rested at St Martha’s church before descending to Chilworth and walking along the gunpowder route to the Percy Arms for a Jackson the dog welcome lunch.

OLD KNIGHTSBRIDGE VILLAGE PUB WALK 6th May 2016 On a Friday evening in May we ventured out from South Kensington to explore hidden parts of Knightsbridge and notably some pubs, entertained by our Blue Badge Guide Richard II who as usual had many a fascinating tale to tell.

OLD PALACE GUIDED WALK

Friday 25th November 2016 This fascinating walk took us through all sorts of delightful nooks and crannies and secret courtyards around St James’s and The Old Palace Quarter of London. We saw the magnifi cent Spencer House overlooking Green Park built for John, The First Earl Spencer and ancestor of Lady Diana, Princess of Wales. We visited the secluded courtyard around the back of The Stafford Hotel beautifully lit with fairy lights. The Stafford is where Princess Diana took refuge when news of her impending divorce was leaked. Around the corner is Dukes Hotel of the Martini “shaken not stirred” fame, a catchphrase of Ian Fleming’s James Bond, and the area around St James’s is also home to many gentlemen’s clubs including: The East India Club, on St James’s Square, Boodles: which was reputed to be where Beau Brummel’s last bet took place before he fl ed to France. Brookes – where gambling all night was The Stafford common and Whites, founded in 1693 – the oldest Courtyard and most exclusive Gentlemans’ club in the world with current members including Charles, Prince of Chopin Wales, and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. David Cameron was a member but resigned over the club’s refusal to admit women. (Margaret Thatcher was made an honorary gentleman). Finally, we saw the In and Out Naval and Military club is in St James’s Square next to the former Libyan Embassy where policewoman Yvonne Fletcher was shot in 1984 during a protest. WEDDINGS Natalie Coyle 2005 to Zafar Rushdie as featured in Hello Magazine (below & opposite) Classical singer Natalie married Zafar Rushdie, celebrity publicist and son of Sir Salman Rushdie in New York. The ceremony took place at St Ignatius Loyola in Manhattan and the three day fairy tale wedding included a boat trip down the Hudson, Pre wedding party in Manhattan hosted by Sir Salman and a Reception in the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.

Adriana Marcela Quintero Grijalba 1990 (below & right) Adriana Marcela married Ignacio Gavilan who is Spanish and from Madrid on 24th September, in Toledo, Spain. They met in Colombia and now live in Paris. You will probably remember Adriana as Marcela Quintero Grijalba. Her sister, who also attended St T’s, is Johanna Grijalba.

Clare Louise (Bartlett) Campbell Harding 2000 My husband, Doug Barrow, and I married in Tithe Barn in Petersfield on Friday, 13th May 2016 surrounded by friends and family – including one of my close friends Léonie Collingwood- Johnson, who I met at Grove House Preparatory School and we continued on to St Teresa’s together. My sister, Gemma, was one of my three bridesmaids - she also attended Grove House and St Teresa’s. My name at school was Clare Bartlett and my sister’s was Gemma Bartlett but, to confuse matters, we both changed our surname to Campbell Harding at 18 and 16 and have now both taken our husbands’ names. In 2018 it will have been 20 years since I left St Teresa’s and I’d love to get a group together at the reunion! I look forward to hearing details of it on facebook!

Marina (Corrigan) Miller 1985 I got married for the 1st time to John Miller at Gretna Green over the Anvil and was given away by my son. Nineteen of us went up for the weekend including my great nephews who were my page boys. Safe to say we all partied so it was lucky we didn’t get married until 4pm on Mother’s Day and we were the only wedding that day.

Marina Miller 1985 (right) My granddaughter Holly Marina Jasmine Gent was born on the 21st Dec weighing in at 6lbs 13ozs and 21.5 in with a full head of black hair. Mum had a rough time but both are now doing well, I have been here most of the time helping look after Holly which I have loved. This is one very special baby as when my Son was diagnosed with late stage 4 Testicular Cancer aged 16 he was told he would be sterile. When he went for his 10yr check they re tested him just to make sure and found that he is far from that now hence Holly. So Holly has been an extra incentive for me to carry on with my holistic path re my Stem cell cancer and so far fi ngers crossed I’m stable, re last check up in Nov next check Feb.

OBITUARIES Sue (Loates) Darrell 1967 sadly died of a brain tumour in February 2016 within 6 weeks of being diagnosed. Joanne (Naylor) Lyon 1991 sadly passed away on 14 February after suffering from a brain tumour. Norma Longsdale 1952 died this year. Sister Raphael died aged 95 just before Christmas. Constance Hiller (Cobbold), War Years – died on 27th October 2016.

Memories From Long Ago by Marian (Ococks) Corrigan

1st May 1947 is a day I have Marian (Ococks) Corrigan with I have stated that M Winifred never forgotten nor shall I her daughter Marina 1985 and was an outstanding nun and ever as that is when I became Marina’s husband John Miller I am reminded of events that a pupil at St Teresa’s Convent crystallise this perception. 1952 Dawn (Newman-Horrill) Horrill I have had a lovely summer. Just returned from a holiday in Inverness with my Scottish Friends. They have a very comfortable Croft in Laid. We played golf at Durness,and paddled in the Scottish waters close by. Golf was also good at Castle Stuart and Inverness. We visited Skye, which is always fabulous and Portree just looking “chocolate box” beautiful. The highlight was being invited Lindy (Graham) Williams with daughters to the 19th Annual Gathering of The Queen’s Own Cameron Having retired twelve years ago I fi nd I am busier than ever from Highlanders, at the Cameron Barracks, Inverness, regrettably the studying French, Mahjong, lace making and woodcarving. I will be out of the country for Christmas and the New Year as I am visiting South Africa. It will 1955 be lovely to feel the warmth of the sun in the depth of the English winter. I live in Cranleigh and I have two sons and a daughter who is an old girl. I have an older sister Shirley - 1953 Anne (Stone) Hines who lives in Elizabeth M Angas (nickname at school – Aggie!) We see each other regularly, but it was extra special to have so much quality time together and so many laughs. I am now working as an interim management consultant. Sadly, I was frog marched right back to school but not before a bit of a reunion with all the family, so the fi ve minutes of madness paid off, but I believe I caused a fl urry of activity back at the school. Needless to say I got a good telling off by Sister Carmel, and a disapproving look by Mother John. However, I think 1996 they secretly had a soft spot for Joanna Burrage Jane Lackenby me, knowing I was so home sick! My brother used to delight all the girls in St. Luke’s dormitory when he came to drop me off, unfortunately the angels called for him in 1997 with a car accident whilst working overseas, but happy memories of those days are fi rmly etched in my mind. Along with the old ladies we used to frequently visit down the road by the drama hut, one I believe by the name of Flo.

2010 BURSARY Katie Russell is a fully qualifi ed teacher now. Zoe Buggins I am currently working at Great Marlow School in Marlow and In the Summer, I went to Iceland with Sofi é and 4 other girls from since being at the school have taught PE following in the footsteps guides and 3 guide leaders from west-surrey. Sofi é Davidson In the summer holidays Zoe and I went to Iceland on a service trip with a group of six guides and three leaders from West-Surrey. We helped out at Solheimer, which is an eco-village run by people with all sorts of disabilities. We spent some time weeding, painting fences, chairs and tables and sweeping. Luckily we got to help in the bakery and made some delicious cookies. As Iceland has a very few trees Solheimer plant a large number every year, and we got to help with the process by removing the weeds from the young tree saplings. The entire experience was incredible as we got to learn about their community and the way they live their lives as well as being able to see the beauty of Iceland and meet some new friends.

Penny Smith In October 2015 I signed up to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with Plymouth University. After nearly a year of fundraising, raising over £100,000 as a group, on August 24th 2016 we fi nally set off for the climb. The challenge was immense, starting in the jungle and ending on the dusty slopes of the peak, we climbed thousands of meters each day. After 4 days and 1 night of climbing, through temperatures as low as -25 degrees celsius, we fi nally reached the peak just after sunrise on 31.8.2016. Despite the average success rate being only 2/3 and us tackling the Machame route in 6 days rather than the usual 7, all 29 of us reached the summit after

battling through the exhausting days and altitude sickness together. The climb itself was without the doubt the greatest challenge I have ever faced, but an incredible experience nonetheless raising a huge amount of money for a great cause. Since we started fundraising, the new MenB vaccination in babies has been proved to be a success, and will go on to save thousands of lives, making the climb worth every second.

Amber McEvoy Zambia: In the summer I was fortunate enough to undertake a volunteering trip to Lusaka, Zambia. The main project that we worked on whilst we were there was helping to build a new home for the street girls who had been taken in by an organisation called ‘Vision of Hope’. Their vision is to help give girls the hope, opportunity and respect that they deserve and to give them a happier, family environment for them to live in. When we visited their old home we were shocked at the living conditions, and how so many people could live and sleep in such a tiny house, and just to see how excited they were to move into their new home made all our hard work worth it. We also had the opportunity to visit those who were more vulnerable such as those living with HIV without any access to medicine, and those who were forced to live on the streets as they had nowhere else to go to. The most poignant moment for me was visiting an orphanage for babies, some as young as a few months old, and also for young children, many of whom had no family. Many of their stories were heart-breaking yet the smiles we were able to put on their faces just by spending a little bit of time with them, is something I will never forget.

Diane Humphreys (former Librarian) Last year 2016 was a very mixed year for me as it started off with Barry my husband, getting his CBE in the New Year Honours List, and then us both having our fi rst grandchild, Holly Piper Humphreys at the end of March and sadly in November my dad passed away nearly reaching 94 years of age Dr Barry Humphreys, who retired last year as Chairman of the British Air Transport Association (BATA), received a CBE – or Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Barry (he says we can still call him that) was awarded the honour “for services to aviation and charity”. In a long and distinguished career Barry was Virgin Atlantic Airways’ Director of External Affairs & Route Development (1995-2009), before that he was a Kerry McGrath, Head of English has had a baby boy Patrick Thomas McGrath major regulator at the time of the creation of the born on 17th December 2016. Investment in Art is still very much on the agenda and the school architects have come up with some exciting new plans to convert Campion House into a modern Art Centre. Work for this will commence following the completion of the new Sixth Form Centre.
