This year STOGA commissioned a plaque for the Chapel to honour the Religious of Christian Instruction who founded the school in 1928 and Sister Carmel, Sister Josephine, Sister Pauline and Sister Brede were invited back as special guests to witness the unveiling and celebrate with us.

NEWS APPOINTMENT OF THE REVEREND CANON EDWARD PROBERT TO THE STFH BOARD We are very pleased to announce that The Reverend Canon Edward Probert, Chancellor and Sub Dean at Salisbury Cathedral, has joined the board of STFH. Edward is a governor of Bishop Wordsworth‟s Grammar School, chairs the Trustees of the College of Matrons almshouses, and holds various other posts on behalf of Chapter. In between taking degrees in history and theology he spent a year working with the homeless in Leeds. He was ordained in 1985 and served in parishes in Surrey and South London until 2004, when he came to Salisbury Cathedral. He is particularly concerned for social cohesion and inclusion, and is a member of Amnesty and AntiSlavery. STOGA 2017 Welcome TO THE STOGA NEWSLETTER I am happy to say that the STOGA membership continues to increase as we locate more old girls through Facebook and word of mouth which is wonderful. We now have 1000 old girls as “facebook friends”. Look up Teresa Effi ngham on Facebook to fi nd us and ask to be a friend. You will most likely fi nd many old class mates on there and you will be able to get in touch with them if you wish. We had a fantastic turnout to the School Reunion in October and it was wonderful to see so many familiar as well as many new faces. Sadly Cynthia Snowden (ex maths teacher from the 1970/80’s) who posted a wonderful video on YouTube of staff and girls in the 1970’s and was planning to join us did not make it due to illness. WALTER LESSING OBE UNIVERSITÄTSBIBLIOTHEK BAMBERG 2003 Vorwort Herr Dr. Walter Lessing, OBE, der aus Bamberg stammt und einer der Gründerväter des Bamberger Großbritannienzentrums ist, hat, durch Vermittlung von Herrn Altrektor Professor Dr. Alfred Hierold und Frau Professor Dr. Christa Jansohn, der Leiterin des Centre for British Studies, seine wertvolle private Büchersammlung dem Bamberger Zentrum übereignet. Herr Dr. Lessing, der 1933 seine Heimat Bamberg verlassen musste und jetzt in London lebt, hat das am 02.03.2000 errichtete Zentrum stets unterstützt und tatkräftig gefördert. Hohe britische und deutsche Auszeichnungen haben seine Verdienste gewürdigt. Die Universität Bamberg ist stolz auf ihren Ehrensenator, die Universitätsbibliothek bleibt ihm stets zu Dank verpflichtet. Der vorliegende Katalog enthält in sieben Gruppen die Titelaufnahmen seines vorzüglichen, umfangreichen Geschenks. Nicht aufgenommen wurden der Familie Lessing direkt zugehörige Bücher wie etwa die Mehrfachexemplare der Dissertation, von Mitgliedern der Familie signierte Titel sowie private Materialien, die zurückgereicht worden sind. Nicht enthalten sind ferner einige wichtige, unvollständige Zeitschriften, die zur Auffüllung von Lücken bei bereits vorhandenen Titeln im Bestand der Teilbibliothek Pädagogik, Philosophie und Psychologie dienten, sowie die fast komplette, in Bamberg schon vorhandene Zeitschrift Foreign Affairs, welche als Geschenk an eine andere Bibliothek vermittelt wurde.
