SAMRUDDHI MAHAMARG FROM MUMBAI TOWARDS NAGPUR THE FASTEST TRAVEL ROUTE .  Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is an under construction greenfield international airport being built at Ulwe Kopar-Panvel in Maharashtra, India. It will be the second international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, functioning alongside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSIA) as India's first urban multi- airport system.

 The first phase of the airport will be able to handle 20 million passengers per annum. It will be expanded to its final capacity to handle more than 90 million passengers per annum. Texas-based Jacobs Engineering Group will chart the final master plan for the airport, while the airport passenger terminal and air traffic control (ATC) tower will be designed by London-based Zaha Hadid Architects.

 The ₹160 billion (US$2.2 billion) (Rs 16,700 crore) project is being executed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL), a special purpose entity formed by the GVK group and City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) which will hold 74 percent and 26 percent equity shares of NMIAL respectively. CIDCO is the nodal government agency for the project which will be built through a public–private partnership (PPP) on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis.

 The airport covers an area of 1,160 hectares (4.5 sq. mi).The Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to be fully operational in 2023 at the latest TRANSHARBOUR SEA LINK NHAVA SHEVA – SEWRI. . The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as the Sewri-Nhava Sheva Trans Harbour Link, is an under- construction 21.8 kilometres (13.5 mi), freeway grade road bridge connecting the Indian city of Mumbai with Navi Mumbai, its satellite city. When completed, it would be the longest sea bridge in India. The bridge will begin in Sewri, and cross Creek north of Elephanta Island and will terminate at Chirle village, near Nhava Sheva. The road will be linked to the Mumbai Pune Expressway in the east and to the proposed Western Freeway in the west. The sea link will contain a 6 lane highway, which will be 27 meters in width, in addition to two emergency exit lanes, edge strip and crash barrier. . The project is estimated to cost ₹14,262 crore (US$2.0 billion). The MMRDA awarded contracts for the project in November 2017; construction began in April 2018, and is scheduled to complete within four-and-a-half years. The MMRDA estimates that 70,000 vehicles will use the bridge daily after it opens. BKC 2 – 345 ACRES BUSINESS DISTRICT @ KHARGHAR.

Cidco has planned a better version of -Kurla Complex (BKC) in Kharghar with a layered structure with a pyramid-shaped central hub of high rises. The new structure will encompass an area of 200 hectares factoring in the central park and golf course. The actual corporate hub will be on 125 hectares of land. Cidco has decided to have a layered structure with the outer fringe to be developed with 1-2 FSI while the core area will have 3 FSI. Around 50% of the area (120 hectares) has been set aside for the high rises with 3 FSI for the pyramid-shaped structure. Plots will be auctioned for corporates with the richer entities vying for the hub of the corporate park. Shops and commercial properties will also be developed so that there is night life unlike BKC. Proximity to the international airport and the metro project worth Rs 13,000 crore, will provide high class infra, Bhatia said. The entire Kharghar node along with nearby industrial Taloja will get connected to the new airport lending an opportunity for businesses to hop between work stations and the airport. . CIDCO has proposed to construct the Marina Project at Sector- 11, 14 and 15, CBD Belapur wherein the well-equipped harbour will be developed on the lines of Kochi International harbour situated in Kerala. Of the total 5 acres of land, the Marina project will be developed on 3 acres of land and the waterfront will be developed on the remaining 2 acres. This project primarily intends to encourage the water transport within the city and thereby reduce the stress on the existing public transport and harbour like . Facilities like garden, amphitheatre, mangrove walk, food Plaza, boat ride, gazebo etc. are also on the anvil for this project . To usher prosperity through its 720km long coastline, Maharashtra plans to develop India’s second world-class marina at Belapur in Navi Mumbai. The project is conceptualised by Maharashtra Maritime Board, a Govt. of Maharashtra enterprise which looks after the maritime activities and development in the western state. The project has been mulled several times, but it failed to draw attention from marina development contractors earlier. UPCOMING

.MSRDC to build six-lane road between Kharghar and Turbhe

. To decongest the Sion-Panvel Highway, the state’s road development corporation plans to develop a six-lane elevated road between Kharghar and Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will table the project to the state government for final approval in the next fortnight, officials said.

. The road will be a 5.4 km stretch, of which 2.5 km will be a tunnel stretch, officials said. The estimated cost of the project is ~ 1,222 crore, of which ~305 crores will be funded by the City Industrial and Development Corporation (Cidco) and ~153 crore each by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the MSRDC.

. The other 50% or ~611 crore will be procured by raising loans, said MSRDC officials. "It will save travel time between Kharghar and Turbhe by 15 to 30 minutes. We are also working on the detailed project report which will be tabled before the state by next fortnight. The government is also keen on implementing the project soon,” said a senior official from MSRDC

. MSRDC has stated that there is a need for an alternate route as the Sion-Panvel Highway is unable to handle the traffic volume.The stretch will also be used by commuters travelling via the Thane-Belapur stretch. . The Government of Maharashtra, with financial assistance from the World Bank and through MMRDA under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project has prepared the Comprehensive Transportation Study (CTS) for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region in the year 2008 known as TRANSFORM (Transportation Study FOR the region of Mumbai). The premier objective of this study was to identify the travel modes and travel patterns of the residents in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and recommend long term Comprehensive Transportation Strategy for MMR up to 2031. The final report was submitted in July, 2008. One of the major recommendations of TRANSFORM is the development of Multi Modal Corridor in MMR to take care of the varied travel demands of the region for the horizon period up to 2031. One such corridor is planned from Virar to Alibaug.

. M/s. Louis Berger Group Inc. has been appointed for the preparation of Techno-Economic and Financial Viability Study which began in August, 2010.

. This 126 km long Virar-Alibaug Multi Modal Corridor will connect NH-8, bypass, NH-3, NH-4 and NH-4B, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, NH-17, etc. Out of this 126 km corridor, 79 km long Virar (Navghar) to Chirner (JNPT) corridor is financially feasible and has been approved by the Authority in its meeting held on 6th March, 2012.

. The Multi Modal Corridor will be a crucial step towards development, strengthening and creating job opportunities in seven growth centres in MMR such as Virar, Bhiwandi, , Dombivali, Panvel, Taloja and Uran. The Corridor will also be useful for the development of Navi Mumbai International Airport, JNPT Port, MTHL and Dedicated Freight Corridor. This Corridor will carry all the traffic from JNPT towards Navi Mumbai and Thane outside the city and will help reduce traffic congestion within the city. The travel time between Virar to Alibaug required today will also be reduced by 50%.

VIRGIN HYPERLOOP MUMBAI TO PUNE

. ‘Pune-Mumbai Hyper loop Project will be the largest privately-funded transport infrastructure’

. The Mumbai-Pune Hyper loop system is very much on the agenda of the Virgin Hyper loop One although the project has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The company’s Managing Director for the Middle East and India, Harj Dhaliwal in an interview to Business Line said that it is currently providing further information to the government prior to the launch of the competitive bidding process under the MahaIDEA Act & Rules. Excerpts:What is the status of the proposed Mumbai-Pune hyper loop system?

. We remain committed to India and committed to continuing to work with the Government of Maharashtra but given the Covid situation we understand that things are moving a bit slower than usual. We are talking to stakeholders about what this opportunity could provide for the State in terms of jobs and economic growth especially in these uncertain times. This private investment would be one of the largest in Maharashtra’s history and we look forward to bringing Hyper loop to the people of Mumbai and Pune.

. The project will create 1.8 million jobs over its lifetime and $36 billion in socio-economic benefits by creating a new, exportable industry in Maharashtra, and connecting millions with a transport network that will make Mumbai and Pune one economic mega-region.

. What is the status of project finance, including Phase 1 Demonstration Track?

. Our investment commitment to India is holistic and long-term, but also dependent on the projects’ progress and business potential. For example, the proposed Pune-Mumbai Hyper loop Project would be the largest privately-funded transport infrastructure project in India. As part of our proposal, we will build a 11-km section (Phase 1) to demonstrate full safety certification before proceeding to build the remaining route. This is an unprecedented opportunity for Maharashtra, as this will attract an investment of $500 million into a high-tech facility that would create jobs and opportunities for local manufacturing. The commencement of Phase 2, will entail a further $10 billion of private investment in the State.

. Since the Hyper loop system is new and never commercially tested in the world, therefore what will be the nature of regulatory compliance, it will have to adhere in India?. As a new mode which transcends the plane, train, and car categories, Hyper loop doesn’t fit cleanly into the regulatory guidelines of any existing modes. We have to demonstrate our safety case to regulators and are committed to working with them to develop a new regulatory framework. In the US, the announcement of the Hyper loop Certification Centre builds off significant regulatory progress around the globe.In India, the Government of Maharashtra has deemed hyper loop a public infrastructure project and approved the Virgin Hyper loop -DP World Consortium as the Original Project Proponent. The Navi Mumbai Metro is a system under construction in the Indian city of Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. The planning and construction of the Navi Mumbai Metro is being overseen by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO). The system is planned to consist of three rail lines covering a total distance of 106.4 kilometres (66.1 mi). The foundation stone for the project was laid on 1 May 2011; following construction delays, the metro's first line is projected to open in 2020. However, the 2020 deadline seems to be meeting the same fate as that of the various previous deadlines, and the opening of the metro looks unlikely in the near future. The metro's technological infrastructure and rolling stock are being provided by Ansaldo STS, Tata Projects and CSR Zhuzhou.

Government of Maharashtra has authorized CIDCO on 30th September 2010 as Implementing Agency under Indian Tramway Act 1886 to implement the Metro Rail Project. CIDCO has envisaged metro rail corridors in the city to improve connectivity with Mumbai's transportation system. CIDCO entrusted Rail Corporation (DMRC), as consultant to conduct feasibility study. The consultants in their report proposed six metro corridors in Navi Mumbai. Belapur–Khandeshwar–Navi Mumbai International Airport corridor is planned to be developed in 3 phases i.e. 1) Belapur to Pendhar, 2) MIDC to Khandeshwar and 3) Interlink between Pendhar & MIDC. Later it was decided to extend the Metro to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in 4th Phase. In the first phase, CIDCO has taken up the development of Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Corridor-I, Line No.1 (Belapur to Pendhar) spanning up to 11.10 Kms. with 11 Stations and 1 Depot costing Rs. 3063.63 Crores. CIDCO will fund Corridor-I, Line No.1 through surplus internal accruals. The Union Urban Development Ministry on 9th January 2015 notified the Alignment for Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Project, Corridor-I, Line No.1 under Section-32 of the Metro Railways (Construction of works) Act 1978 for implementation of the project under Central Metro Acts. The ground breaking ceremony of was performed on 1st May, 2011 and the construction work is in progress. Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Project- Belapur to NMIA is being developed in phases, as below: MAHARASHTRA SAMRUDDHI MAHAMARG

. Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway (also known as Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg is an under construction, 701 km (436 mi) long, 8 lane expressway, connecting the two capitals of Maharashtra, Mumbai and Nagpur. The expressway will run through 10 districts, 26 tehsils, and 390 villages in the state and is expected to cut travel time between the two cities to 8 hours. The project is expected to cost ₹46,000 crores and requires the acquisition of 8,603 hectares of land. Project details

. Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation is the nodal agency responsible for executing the project which comprises building a completely greenfield expressway, designed for speeds up to 150 km/h on flat terrain and up to 100 km/h on the mountainous terrain of the Western Ghats section . The state government also plans to build 24 townships along the route which will include state-of-the art healthcare facilities, skill management centres, IT parks and educational institutions. A total of 20,820 hectares of land is to be acquired for the project across 10 districts, out of which 8,520 hectares will used for the expressway, while 10,800 hectares would be for building townships. MSRDC will need a loan of ₹28,000 crore loan from banks for funding the project. To expedite the pre construction work on the expressway, MSRDC decided to divide the project into five packages and hired a separate consultancy firm to prepare the Detailed Project Report for each package. The civil work was further divided into 16 packages to be tendered separately. SAMRUDDHI MAHAMARG Project timeline :

May 2016: Consultants appointed for making Detailed Project Report. January 2017: Request for Qualification (RfQ) bids opened for civil works. July 2017: Land acquisition process started. May 2018: MSRDC opened financial bids submitted by qualified contractors. May 2018: Maharashtra cabinet gave its official approval for Concession Agreement for the project. Jun 2018: Lowest bidders identified for thirteen packages, bidding for remaining packages to happen soon. Nov 2018: 90% land acquisition done. Work to be done in 16 packages, contractors for which are already identified. Work to start in December. Dec 2018: Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed ground breaking ceremony for the project on 18-December-2018. Jan 2019: Land acquisition complete, funding secured, expressway to be ready by December 2020.[citation needed] Road construction started. Sep 2019: Expressway to be ready by year 2022, says Maharashtra PWD minister Eknath Shinde. Nov 2019: 22% work completed. Mar 2020: 86% of land acquisition done. Road construction progressing. Jul 2020: 40% work completed. 623 Kms stretch between Igatpuri to Nagpur is expected to be ready and opened by December 2021 and remaining stretch between Thane and Igatpuri to take additional three or four months. Oct 2020: Nagpur to Shirdi stretch of 520 kms to become operational by May 2021, Nagpur to Igatpuri stretch of 623 kms to become operational by Dec 2021 and full expressway to become operational by May 2022.
