Introduction Message On behalf of the Turkish Society of Toxicology (TST), it is our great pleasure to propose to host the XII Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries (CTDC12) in Antalya, Turkey. We all fully understand that the triennial CTDC conference is the most important and the largest international meetings in the area of toxicology in the developing countries. In the past, it provided a great opportunity for us to share experiences in scientific and technical developments, and also we enjoyed friendship with colleagues around the world on this special occasion. Undoubtedly a successful CTDC meeting will help enhance collaborations among participants from different research fields and countries. TST will do our best effort to provide a professional and well- organized meeting to make the CTDC12 a successful, remarkable and memorable event. The Turkish Society of Toxicology (TST) was established as a non-profit organization on 1st October 1987 by 14 founding members with the aim of disseminating toxicological knowledge for improving health and safety by raising standards of living. The vision of the TST is maintaining the contemporary level of toxicological research and applications in the country, while enhancing the Society’s efficiency at the international level. TST became a member of the Federation of European Toxicologists & European Societies of Toxicology (EUROTOX) in 1989 and the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX) in 1998. TST hosted 23 activities and contributed to 6. One of them was the 4th Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries, which was held in Antalya, in the year, 1999.We believe these meeting organization experiences make us a well-qualified candidate to be the host CTDC12. Antalya, which is the most visited touristic province of Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, is also an ideal candidate-city for CTDC12. The area has witnessed many historical changes; you can enjoy the charming atmosphere and the stunning view of the sea.The proposed conference venue, Limak Limra Hotel, is one of the amazing hotels presenting large venues and facilities in Kemer village, which is also a vibrant and successful blend of traditional culture and sealife. We would like to present the proposal and convince you of our strong intent to host the CTDC12 and our confidence to make it more successful than ever. We hope you would find that the quality of our proposal is fully in line and at the level of the previous CTDC conferences. With open arms and warm regards, we look forward to welcoming all of the CTDC12 attendees in Antalya for a very special and rewarding meeting ! Sincerely Yours, Prof. Dr. Nurşen BAŞARAN President of TST 2 II. The aS trap Of Western Anatolia And The Greeks Abstract This dissertation explores the extent to which Persian policies in the western satrapies originated from the provincial capitals in the Anatolian periphery rather than from the royal centers in the Persian heartland in the fifth ec ntury BC. I begin by establishing that the Persian administrative apparatus was a product of a grand reform initiated by Darius I, which was aimed at producing a more uniform and centralized administrative infrastructure. In the following chapter I show that the provincial administration was embedded with chancellors, scribes, secretaries and military personnel of royal status and that the satrapies were periodically inspected by the Persian King or his loyal agents, which allowed to central authorities to monitory the provinces. In chapter three I delineate the extent of satrapal authority, responsibility and resources, and conclude that the satraps were supplied with considerable resources which enabled to fulfill the duties of their office. After the power dynamic between the Great Persian King and his provincial governors and the nature of the office of satrap has been analyzed, I begin a diachronic scrutiny of Greco-Persian interactions in the fifth century BC.

Kemer Kemer is a seaside resort and district of Antalya Province on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, 40 km (25 mil) west of the city of Antalya, on the Turkish Riviera. Kemer is on the Gulf of Antalya, 53 km (33 mi) of sea coast with the skirts of the western Taurus Mountains behind. The coast has the typical Mediterranean hot, dry weather and warm sea. Until the early 1980s this was a quiet rural district but today the town of Kemer and coastal villages in the district play a very important part in tourism in Turkey. Tourism in Kemer One of the major attractions of Kemer is its natural beauty; sea, mountains and pine forest combine in harmony. The shore from Beldibi to Tekirova consists of unspoilt beaches in bays of various sizes, mostly stony rather than sand. With easy transportation, good communication and other municipal services Kemer has a large proportion of the hotel bed capacity of the Antalya region, and is a comfortable and peaceful holiday coast with internationally accepted reputation, attracting large numbers of visitors from countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, and in recent years predominantly families from Russia.

Golf in Antalya Golf in Belek Belek, one of Antalya’s most popular holiday centres, has become not only a brand name in Turkey, but one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world thanks to its unsurpassed natural beauty and perfect climate. Located 30 kilometers from Antalya, Belek has a seventeen-kilometer coastline lined with numerous five star hotels. Since the early 1990s, Belek has offered its guests the most comfortable holiday opportunity in the Mediterranean. Among the features that make Belek such an attractive location in the region is its ease of access and the ancient cities situated nearby. The region hosted numerous civilisations throughout its thousands of years of history, and with its fertile lands has been a centre of attention in every period. Though Belek has a typical Mediterranean climate, the freshwater streams which flow from the slopes of the Taurus Mountains give it different characteristics than other Mediterranean locations. Thanks to its large sand dunes, its beaches are sheltered from the harsh effects of the sea and wind. With all these features in place, Belek offers a magnificent atmosphere, not only as a tourism centre, but as an area that contains all the distinctive Mediterranean characteristics. For many years now, Belek has been one of the foremost holiday destinations for sports tourism in our country. It owes its preeminent position in this regard to its climate, geographical location and undeniably to its committed implementation of sustainable tourism policies. Belek and its hotels are highly popular with sports clubs and cater to their needs across all sports year-round.
