At the age of fourteen I appeared at the National Theatre in THE CRUCIBLE. I carried on acting during school holidays, and was all set to go to drama school when I was offered my first professional job appearing in KING DAVID with Richard Gere. So I packed all my school books away and went to Italy on a fourteen million dollar picture.” She became a household name after appearing in Dennis Potter’s drama BLACKEYES, although she says she always knew she wanted to do comedy as well. Sarah knew that she wanted to act from a very young age: “But I kept it quiet. My father was a television director and producer, working on documentaries and current affairs programmes including “Panorama”, and I didn’t think he’d find acting a sensible option. But as soon as I’d finished my A’ Levels I got on a train to Edinburgh and that was it.” She continues: “Having started in theatre, for a long time I wanted to be a classical actress. But I’ve always loved making people laugh - at school I was quite mischievous – and bit by bit I found myself working more and more in comedy. Then I met up with Ben Miller and Alexander Armstrong and we started doing lots of stuff for the Paramount Channel. Meanwhile I appeared in DROP THE DEAD DONKEY and RED DWARF and I eventually ended up as part of the regular team in SMACK THE PONY.” Other television credits include: THE RETURN OF NEVILLE DEAD; NATURAL LIES (BBC); THE BILL (Thames); COVINGTON CROSS (Thames); YOU, ME AND IT (Wall to Wall); CRISS CROSS; ANNA LEE (LWT); BARRIER ISLAND; SMITH AND JONES (two series); PUNY HUMANS (LWT); TILLY TROTTER; A SUMMER IN THE SUBURBS (BBC); THE STRANGERERS (Sky); MIDSOMER MURDERS (Carlton); THE ELEVEN O’CLOCK SHOW (C4) and DR TERRIBLE’S HOUSE OF HORRIBLE: VOODO FEET OF DEATH. • December 2018 When Cold Feet Isn’T Just Nerves
CALL US TODAY – 407-339-7759 • 352-589-9550 (LAKE CO.) News and Updates December 2018 When Cold Feet Isn’t Just Nerves People often talk about cold feet in terms of walking down the aisle or engaging in a stressful event, but what’s going on when your feet just feel cold for seemingly no reason? Many causes of cold feet are nothing to worry about, but others can be sign of an underlying problem. It pays to talk with a podiatrist about your condition if it keeps returning or causes you concerns for other reasons. Among the most common causes of cold feet is poor circulation. The feet, being far from your heart, already have a bigger challenge receiving warm blood fl ow. If a condition is causing your general circulation to be slower, your feet will be among the fi rst to feel it. A potential cause of interrupted circulation is Raynaud’s phenomenon which causes blood vessels in the hands and/or feet to suddenly constrict and spasm, reducing blood fl ow. While sometimes associated with another condition, Raynaud’s phenomenon can also happen entirely on its own to an otherwise healthy person. Also, in some cases, certain medications can mimic this effect. If you are sensing cold, but your feet don’t actually feel cold to the touch, that may be the sign that something is amiss neurologically. The nerves that sense temperature may not be operating as they should and damaged in some way (neuropathy). If that cold feeling also comes with tingling or numbness, the odds of a nerve problem become even more likely.

  • Independent Television Producers in England
Negotiating Dependence: Independent Television Producers in England Karl Rawstrone A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the University of the West of England, Bristol for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, University of the West of England, Bristol November 2020 77,900 words. Abstract The thesis analyses the independent television production sector focusing on the role of the producer. At its centre are four in-depth case studies which investigate the practices and contexts of the independent television producer in four different production cultures. The sample consists of a small self-owned company, a medium- sized family-owned company, a broadcaster-owned company and an independent- corporate partnership. The thesis contextualises these case studies through a history of four critical conjunctures in which the concept of ‘independence’ was debated and shifted in meaning, allowing the term to be operationalised to different ends. It gives particular attention to the birth of Channel 4 in 1982 and the subsequent rapid growth of an independent ‘sector’. Throughout, the thesis explores the tensions between the political, economic and social aims of independent television production and how these impact on the role of the producer. The thesis employs an empirical methodology to investigate the independent television producer’s role. It uses qualitative data, principally original interviews with both employers and employees in the four companies, to provide a nuanced and detailed analysis of the complexities of the producer’s role. Rather than independence, the thesis uses network analysis to argue that a television producer’s role is characterised by sets of negotiated dependencies, through which professional agency is exercised and professional identity constructed and performed.
