HORSHAM SAINTS CRICKET CLUB INC. 2017-2018

President's Welcome

Welcome to the Horsham Saints Cricket Club and to the 2017/18 cricket season!

The purpose of this document is to provide members, parents and carers with information about the programs run by Horsham Saints Cricket Club. It includes a statement of our culture and values, some general information that we hope will be useful, contact details of coaches and other club officials, and links to policies and guidelines.

The Horsham Saints Cricket Club has developed a well-regarded and very successful junior and senior program. We welcome boys and girls of all abilities from 5-8 year-old beginners through to adults who participate in our A, B and C grade teams. Our overarching goal is to develop strong cricket skills and foster a love of the game in a challenging, fun and participatory environment.

We hope you enjoy cricket at Horsham Saints Cricket Club.

Sincerely

Glenn Carroll

President Horsham Saints Cricket Club

Junior Philosophy We are committed to developing the skills of junior cricketers in a challenging, fun, and participatory environment. Further, we will promote a culture of friendship and teamwork, along with a respect for opposition players, coaches and umpires.

We are committed to high quality coaching, the provision of strong mentors and role models and offering our junior crickets the best possible cricket experience. Our club does this by ensuring our junior crickets gain the experience of playing on a turf wicket.

We hope that the lessons learned and the friendships made at HSCC Juniors will extend beyond the field of play.

Child Safe Standards and Working with Childrens Check From 1 January 2017, the Victorian Child Safety Standards apply to sporting organisations that operate and provide sporting services to children within (including National Sporting Organisations). There are seven different requirements which make up the standards, and with which sports will be required to comply.

The standards relate to child protection within Horsham Saints Cricket Club and include requirements to have practices, procedures and policies in place.

Horsham Saints Cricket Club is committed to the safety of all children and has adopted and abides by the Cricket Victoria Member Protection By-Law. In support of the changes to legislation, the club has made a declaration via a Statement of Commitment to Child Safety. The club has also adopted a Child Safe Code of Conduct. Both documents can be viewed on our club website.

Amendments to the Victorian Working with Children Check (WWCC) came into effect on 1 August 2017. Individuals that previously did not require a WWCC may now need one to undertake their role. This has implications to standard four of the Victorian Child Safe Standards. Horsham Saints Cricket Club has amended the club By-Laws to reflect the changes.

All junior coaches, Milo In2Cricket coordinators, appointed senior captains, committee members, team managers, anyone with an ongoing volunteer role or anyone upon request from the committee shall have a Working With Children Check undertaken unless they are a registered Victorian school teacher, Victoria Police officer or an Australian Federal Police (AFP) officer.

What We Expect For the HSCC to remain well- regarded, and to foster a strong, positive culture, we have certain expectations of players, parents, carers and coaches. In general we expect everyone involved with HSCC to behave positively and respectfully. We believe that cricket matches and HSCC events will be more enjoyable as a result.

A document called Code of Conduct outlines our expectations in more detail. We ask all players, parents and carers to read this document as part of the registration process, and discuss the underlying principles with their children as necessary. The Code of Conduct can be found on the Horsham Saints Cricket Club website.

Parent Participation We encourage parents to get along to games and watch their children play. In addition parents can make a valuable contribution as coaches, scorers, umpires and administrators. Talk to your child’s coach about what you can do to help.

Communication Strategy We prefer to communicate by text message and on the clubs Facebook page (or Junior group page) about selection, training and HSCC events. So that we can keep you informed, it is important that we have your current contact details in MyCricket. There will be an opportunity to update your contact details during the pre-season registration process. You are also able to update details during the online registration process via PlayCricket.

Important club messages will be posted on our Facebook page and private groups. The coaches often post messages effecting their junior sides (venue changes, training being called off etc). a) HSCC Juniors b) HSCC Milo In2Cricket c) Horsham Saints Cricket Club
