Even a defeat at Goodison Park would not delay their progress unless Apollon Limassol win the other group fixture at Lyon. Previous meetings • Atalanta's first encounter with English opponents resulted in a 3-0 win against Everton in Reggio Emilia on matchday one. First-half goals from Andrea Masiello, Alejandro Gómez and Bryan Cristante set the tone for the two clubs' campaigns. • Everton's record in seven games against Serie A sides is now W1 D2 L4, although they have yet to be beaten by Italian opposition at home (W1 D2). • The Toffees failed to score in the first five of those games, finally making the breakthrough with a 2-0 home win over Fiorentina in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup round of 16 second leg (although they ended the evening by losing on penalties). Form guide • Everton have not won any of their last five European encounters (D2 L3); they have lost four of their last seven home fixtures in the UEFA Europa League group stage. • Atalanta are unbeaten in Europe this season (W2 D2) and have not lost a UEFA fixture outside Italy since 1989. Nevertheless, the Bergamo club have only ever won one away fixture in European competition – 1-0 against Fenerbahçe in the second round of the 1990/91 UEFA Cup. • Seventh in the 2016/17 Premier League, Everton had previously qualified from all three UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League group stages in which they had taken part. • Fourth in Serie A last term, Atalanta are back in Europe for the first time since 1990/91, when they were eliminated by Internazionale Milano in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals. Links and trivia • The journey from Bergamo to Liverpool is around 1,250km. • Everton's Wayne Rooney was a UEFA Europa League winner with Manchester United last season. • Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg played in Serie A with Roma from 2011–13. • Atalanta midfielder Marten de Roon played in the Premier League with Middlesbrough last season; he featured in a 3-1 away defeat and a 0-0 home draw against Everton. • On-loan Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini was also in England last season, playing with Aston Villa in the second tier. He was formerly a trainee at Manchester United, on the Old Trafford books at the same time as Rooney. • Everton's Morgan Schneiderlin is ineligible for this game after receiving a red card against Lyon on matchday four. • Suspended for next match if booked: Andrea Masiello, Josip Iličić (Atalanta). The coaches • Everton are seeking a new permanent manager following the departure of Ronald Koeman on 23 October. Former Everton defender David Unsworth has been in charge on a temporary basis. • A one-time Juventus youth player, Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini mostly played in Italy's lower divisions but worked his way up to the top tier as a coach, leading Inter, Genoa and Palermo before taking the job in Bergamo in 2016. 3 Everton FC - Atalanta BC Thursday 23 November 2017 - 21.05CET (20.05 local time) Match press kit Goodison Park, Liverpool Team facts Everton Formed: 1878 Nickname: The Toffees UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1): 1985 Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 9 (1987) FA Cup: 5 (1995) Ten-year record (UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup unless indicated otherwise) 2016/17: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2015/16: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2014/15: round of 16 2013/14: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2009/10: round of 32 2008/09: first round 2007/08: round of 16 Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 6-1: Everton v Brann 21/02/08, UEFA Cup round of 32 second leg 5-0: Everton v Finn Harps 26/09/78, UEFA Cup first round second leg • Biggest away win 0-5: Finn Harps v Everton 12/09/78, UEFA Cup first round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-2: Everton v Benfica 05/11/09, UEFA Europa League group stage • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Benfica v Everton 22/10/09, UEFA Europa League group stage UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup • Biggest home win 6-1: Everton v Brann (see above) 5-0: Everton v Finn Harps (see above) • Biggest away win 0-5: Finn Harps v Everton (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-2: Everton v Benfica (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: SL Benfica v Everton (see above) Atalanta BC Formed: 1907 Nickname: La Dea (The Goddess) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • None Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) Italian Cup: 1 (1963) 4 Everton FC - Atalanta BC Thursday 23 November 2017 - 21.05CET (20.05 local time) Match press kit Goodison Park, Liverpool Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup unless indicated otherwise) 2016/17: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2015/16: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2014/15: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2013/14: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2007/08: did not take part in UEFA club competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 4-1: Atalanta v Fenerbahçe 07/11/90, UEFA Cup second round second leg 3-0: Atalanta v Everton 14/09/17, UEFA Europa League group stage • Biggest away win 0-1: Fenerbahçe v Atalanta 24/10/90, UEFA Cup second round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 1-3: Atalanta v Sporting CP 14/10/63, European Cup preliminary round replay, played on neutral territory in Barcelona • Heaviest away defeat 3-1: Sporting CP v Atalanta 09/10/63, European Champion Clubs' Cup preliminary round second leg 2-0: Internazionale v Atalanta 20/03/91, UEFA Cup quarter-final second leg UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup • Biggest home win 4-1: Atalanta v Fenerbahçe (see above) 3-0: Atalanta v Everton (see above) • Biggest away win 0-1: Fenerbahçe v Atalanta (see above) • Heaviest home defeat none • Heaviest away defeat 2-0: Internazionale v Atalanta (see above) 1-5: twice Austria Wien v AC Milan 5 Everton FC - Atalanta BC Thursday 23 November 2017 - 21.05CET (20.05 local time) Match press kit Goodison Park, Liverpool Squad list Everton FC Current season All-time QUAL UEL League UEL UEFA No. Player Nat.
