Box 51, Hungary * Corresponding author We have carried out geological studies including mapping at the scale 1 : 50 000 in the southern part of the San Salvador Metropolitan Area to support urban planning and natural hazard mitigation. The study area extends over the Cordillera del Bálsamo, marginal fault system and southern part of the Central Graben between the active San Salvador volcano and Ilo- pango caldera. It represents a segment in the Central American Volcanic Front. Volcanic rocks of the Late Miocene to recent age, classified as the Bálsamo, Cuscatlán and San Salvador formations, occur in the area. Remnants of two large basaltic andesite to andesite stratovolcanoes, Panchimalco and Jayaque, represent the Bálsamo Formation. They show periclinal dips and facies zoning from lava flows and coarse epiclastic volcanic breccias of the proximal zone through epiclastic volcanic breccias/conglomerates of the medial zone to epiclastic volcanic conglomerates and sandstones of the distal zone. -

ING. : CARLOS ARMANDO VILLALTA RESUMEN Los recursos naturales se han visto mermados debido crecimiento demográfico, industrial, agroindustrial, entre otros, el recurso hídrico en El Salvador se encuentra sobre explotado, extrayendo de los manto acuíferos y contaminando las aguas superficiales, uno de los sectores que están causando gran impacto en este recurso es el industrial, el cual debido a los procesos ineficientes que desarrollan generan una gran cantidad de aguas residuales los cuales presentan cantidades variables de contaminantes como aceites, sólidos, entre otros, así como una gran demanda química y bioquímica de oxigeno. Con la caracterización espacial se obtuvo la distribución de la contaminación de las industrias ubicadas en las diferentes subcuencas, municipios y cantones que forman la subcuenca Acelhuate. -

REGIMEN DE ORDENAMIENTO PARA LA REGION METROPOLITANA DE SAN SALVADOR. DECRETO Nº 39. EL ORGANO EJECUTIVO DE LA REPUBLICA DE EL SALVADOR, CONSIDERANDO: I.- Que el intensivo crecimiento de los asentamientos humanos en el Area Metropolitana de San Salvador, ha invadido zonas rurales inclusive masas boscosas, trayendo como consecuencia la contaminación ambiental, aumento de escorrentía y erosión de los suelos, disminuyendo la capacidad de infiltración de los mismos. II.-Que el desarrollo desordenado de tales asentamientos, especialmente del Area Metropolitana de San Salvador y sus alrededores, requiere de una acción coordinada del Gobierno Central y local, a fin de lograr una estrecha relación con los Municipios que la rodean y conformar una Región planificada. III.-Que deben planificarse nuevas áreas físicas para el desarrollo de los asentamientos humanos y dictarse las disposiciones legales correspondientes. IV.-Que de conformidad a las facultades que la ley confiere al Ministerio de Obras públicas, en lo relativo a los asentamientos humanos para crear y ordenar los desarrollos regionales en todo el territorio. POR TANTO, En uso de sus facultades legales DECRETA, el siguiente: REGIMEN DE ORDENAMIENTO PARA LA REGION METROPOLITANA DE SAN SALVADOR Art. 1 OBJETO El presente Decreto tiene por objeto la creación de la Región Metropolitana de San Salvador, a fin de que el Ministerio de Obras Públicas como Organismo rector de los asentamientos humanos, elabore el correspondiente plan regional de ordenamiento físico. Para efectos de este Decreto, se entenderá por Asentamientos Humanos; las concentraciones de la población no importando su tamaño, desarrolladas en un espacio determinado del territorio nacional, y en el cual se desean edificar o se han edificado construcciones para la realización de actividades colectivas o individuales propias del ser humano. -

ASAMBLEA LEGISLATIVA - REPÚBLICA DE EL SALVADOR 1 ____________________________________________________________________ DECRETO Nº 262 LA ASAMBLEA LEGISLATIVA DE LA REPÚBLICA DE EL SALVADOR, CONSIDERANDO: I.- Que por Decretos números 261 y 262 emitidos este día, esta Asamblea ha creado en el territorio nacional Tribunales de Sentencia, Juzgados de Instrucción, Juzgados de Paz y Juzgados de Vigilancia Penitenciaria y de Ejecución de la Pena; y ha convertido en Juzgados de Instrucción, Juzgados de lo Penal previamente existentes. II.- Que la creación y conversión de tantos organismos judiciales, que deberán aplicar la legislación procesal penal y penitenciaria, que entrará en vigencia el próximo día veinte de abril, implica la modificación integral de la Ley Orgánica Judicial en lo referente a la estructura actual de Tribunales que la misma consigna. III.- Que mientras se introducen las modificaciones pertinentes a la legislación orgánica mencionada, es conveniente regular mediante Decreto especial, las jurisdicciones, atribuciones y residencias de los Tribunales y Juzgados de la República. DETAILS OF THE EMERGENCY : Between 27th and May 30th, El Salvador together with the rest of the Central American region was hit by Tropical Storm Agatha. In the case of El Salvador, the heavy rains caused overflowing of rivers and landslides in 12 of the 14 departments of the country. The National System of Civil Protection reported on June 1st that 12 people died and three others were missing. 11,649 affected people needed to be evacuated and sheltered. In terms of infrastructure the storm affected 120 schools and 15 health centers, eight bridges and 13 houses were destroyed and 106 houses damaged. On 29 th May, the President of the Republic decreed red alert and state of national emergency that lasted until June 1st. In the particular case of the municipality of Jiquilisco (Department of Usulután), the discharges from the hydroelectric dam “September 15” prompted the evacuation of families living in the lower Lempa River and the opening of 21 shelters in the same number of communities, most of them could not be visited due to the lack of access.
