Jesus Said, “A Certain Creditor Had Two Debtors; One Owed Five Hundred Denarii, and the Other Fifty. When They Could Not Pay, He Canceled the Debts of Both of Them Jesus said, “A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they could not pay, he canceled the debts of both of them. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon answered, “I suppose the one for whom he canceled the greater debt.” And Jesus said to him, “You have judged rightly.” Luke 7: 41-43 I’m trying to be intentional about listening to new music. To clarify, that would be music that is new to me. Lately it’s been Lauren Daigle, a contemporary Christian artist who, I swear, reminds me a lot of Adele. She wrote this song called “You Say.” Here’s the first verse: I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough. Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up. Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low? Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know. Some of us, myself included, have been told in a variety of ways by a number of people too many times that we are not enough, that we will never meet the expectations of the important people in our lives. The messages may have started when we were children. Your grades aren’t high enough. You’re not that smart. You don’t fit in. You’re weird looking. You’ll never be good at ______. You can fill in the blank. And maybe those messages continued into adulthood. Your work is unsatisfactory. You’ll never find a spouse. Who would want to spend their life with someone like you? You will never succeed. You’re a bad parent. That hard choice you made makes you an awful person. Every day we keep fighting the voices in our minds that say we’re not enough. And it’s exhausting. So let me remind you that God says you are enough. Jesus says you are enough. The Holy Spirit says you are enough. Let me remind you that God created you in God’s image. Jesus died for you because he loves you that much. At your baptism the Holy Spirit descended upon you to empower your life. Let me remind you that you are beautiful in God’s sight. Jesus never turned away a single person, and he loved them just the way he found them. That’s how Jesus loves you. He will never turn you away; he will receive you just as you are. There’s a story in Luke’s gospel about a time when Jesus was invited to dinner with a group of Pharisees. Somehow, a woman who was carrying many emotional burdens snuck into the house and as Luke tells it, “She stood behind him (Jesus) at his feet, weeping, and began to bathe his feet with her tears and to dry them with her hair. Then she continued kissing his feet and anointing them with the ointment.” Of course, this did not please the tightly-wound Pharisees one bit because they were convinced this woman was a sinner beyond redemption. In turn, Jesus told them a parable about two debtors and which one was more grateful for having his debt relieved. (The one with the greater debt.) And then Jesus promptly spoke a word of forgiveness to the woman. Jesus passed no judgment. He did not exclude her. She was enough just as she was. Here’s the second verse of the Lauren Daigle song: The only thing that matters now is everything You think of me. In You I find my worth, in You I find my identity. You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing. You say I am strong when I think I am weak. And You say I am held when I am falling short When I don’t belong, oh, You say I am Yours. Today, and every day, we find our worth in Jesus Christ. Our identity is rooted in our baptism. Even on days when we are numb to everything, we are loved by a merciful and gracious God. During times of weakness we are made strong by the presence of God’s Spirit. When someone tells us we fall short, we are still being held in the hand of God. And when we feel no sense of belonging, remember the woman who bathed Jesus’ feet with her tears and know that you are His. Always and forever. Pastor Chuck Let us pray. Lord, I confess that sometimes I don’t feel like I am enough. It seems like I can’t please anyone, let alone live the way You expect me to live. Help me to remember that you have made me in Your image, and you love me as I am. Renew me each day for the sake of your Son who died and rose so that I may have life, and have it abundantly. By your Spirit, empower me to live into that abundant life each and every day. Amen If you’re interested in listening to Lauren Daigle I would suggest her most recent album Look Up Child (2018, Centricity Music), available on all digital music services. .

The opera was composed by Christoph Gluck, and the libretto was written by Ranieri de’ Calzabigi. The opera premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna in October of 1762. “Che Faró Senza Euridice” takes place in Hades after Orfeo goes to rescue his beloved Euridice; however, the only way Euridice can escape is if Orfeo does not look at her until they have left Hades. Euridice becomes distressed, so Orfeo turns to look at her. As he does, Euridice dies and falls to the ground at his feet. In “Che Faró Senza Euridice”, Orfeo expresses his desperation and mourns for his Euridice. Che farò senza Euridice? What will I do without Euridice? Dove andrò senza il mio ben? Where will I go without my wonderful one? Euridice! Oh Dio! Rispondi! Euridice! Oh, God! Answer! Io son pure il tuo fedele.

  • Still Rolling Stones Matthew 28:1-10
Still Rolling Stones Matthew 28:1-10 Resurrection of the Lord/ 21st April 2019 Only Matthew tells us how the stone was moved. Mark tells us that when the women arrived at the tomb the stone had already been rolled back (Mk. 16:4). Luke says the same (Lk. 24:3). Even John, who is usually a “horse of a different color,” agrees with both Mark and Luke (Jn. 20:1). Matthew is different. Matthew is far more dramatic. Matthew tells us that when the two Marys arrived at the tomb, it was still sealed. In fact, unique to Matthew, we’re told that Pilate stationed a guard of soldiers at the tomb, commanding them to, “…make it as secure as you can” (Mt. 27:65). So they made the tomb secure by sealing the stone (Mt. 27:66). A sealed stone. That’s what the women found on the day after the Sabbath, at the dawn of a new week—which was also, they soon discovered, the dawn of the new eon of God’s grace and justice. For what they didn’t know was that something had already taken place behind that securely sealed stone. Suddenly, the earth began to tremble and shake. I should say, shake again. Matthew tells us that when Jesus “cried with a loud voice and breathed his last” on the cross, “The earth shook, and the rocks were split” (Mt. 27:51). When the centurion and others standing at the cross saw (and felt) the earthquake, they were terrified and said, “Truly this man was God’s Son!” (Mt.

Due to the genre’s flexible nature, many Christian artists over the years have used vague imagery and secular lyrical content to find favor among mainstream outlets. This study examined the most recent ten-year period of CCM to determine its ability to cross over into the mainstream music scene, while also assessing the impact of its lyrical content and genre on the probability of reaching such mainstream success. For the years 2008-2018, Billboard data were collected for every Christian song on the Hot 100, Hot Rock Songs, or Hot Country Songs in order to detect any noticeable trend regarding the rise or fall of CCM; each song then was coded for theological language. No obvious trend emerged regarding the mainstream success of CCM as a whole, but the genre of Rock was found to possess the greatest degree of mainstream success. Rock also, however, was shown to have a very low tolerance for theological language, contrasted with the high tolerance of Country.

2019 THEME RESOURCES Holy Today! I am ready to be approached by those who do not study me, ready to be found by those who do not seek me. I say, “I am here, I am here” to people who do not even invoke my names. Isaiah 65.1 I am here! I am here! If you have ever had a beach holiday it is surprising just how loud the sound of the waves crashing on the shore can be. By day, the sound of the waves can almost be missed amidst the other sounds, dazzling colours and energetic movement of beachgoers, bright flags, ball games, cawing seagulls or the glare of the dancing sun. Yet sitting on the sand at that magical time of twilight, the sound of the crashing waves begins to catch greater attention. As the fine mist of night begins to descend the volume seems to amplify. By nightfall, the sound can be heard with such intensity as to even keep a light sleeper awake. However, there is no volume control on the sound of the waves. It seems that we are simply more attuned or aware of its sound at some particular moments than at other times. We know the same can be true in our experience of God. Like the waves, there is no volume control that we can, or need to, turn up to hear or ‘experience the presence of God’. Like the sound of the crashing waves that are always there, so too God is always present to us - it’s just that sometimes we are more attuned or aware.

LPs continue to show strength and lend resilience to physical albums, as independent retail events like Record Store Day continue to bring music fans in droves. All data cited in this story is compiled by Nielsen Music. In this report, Nielsen is using a 24-week period for this year, running from Jan. 4 through June 20; while last year’s corresponding period ran THE FIRST HALF from Dec. 29, 2017, through June 14, 2018.
