The opera was composed by Christoph Gluck, and the libretto was written by Ranieri de’ Calzabigi. The opera premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna in October of 1762. “Che Faró Senza Euridice” takes place in Hades after Orfeo goes to rescue his beloved Euridice; however, the only way Euridice can escape is if Orfeo does not look at her until they have left Hades. Euridice becomes distressed, so Orfeo turns to look at her. As he does, Euridice dies and falls to the ground at his feet. In “Che Faró Senza Euridice”, Orfeo expresses his desperation and mourns for his Euridice. Che farò senza Euridice? What will I do without Euridice? Dove andrò senza il mio ben? Where will I go without my wonderful one? Euridice! Oh Dio! Rispondi! Euridice! Oh, God! Answer! Io son pure il tuo fedele.

  • Still Rolling Stones Matthew 28:1-10
Still Rolling Stones Matthew 28:1-10 Resurrection of the Lord/ 21st April 2019 Only Matthew tells us how the stone was moved. Mark tells us that when the women arrived at the tomb the stone had already been rolled back (Mk. 16:4). Luke says the same (Lk. 24:3). Even John, who is usually a “horse of a different color,” agrees with both Mark and Luke (Jn. 20:1). Matthew is different. Matthew is far more dramatic. Matthew tells us that when the two Marys arrived at the tomb, it was still sealed. In fact, unique to Matthew, we’re told that Pilate stationed a guard of soldiers at the tomb, commanding them to, “…make it as secure as you can” (Mt. 27:65). So they made the tomb secure by sealing the stone (Mt. 27:66). A sealed stone. That’s what the women found on the day after the Sabbath, at the dawn of a new week—which was also, they soon discovered, the dawn of the new eon of God’s grace and justice. For what they didn’t know was that something had already taken place behind that securely sealed stone. Suddenly, the earth began to tremble and shake. I should say, shake again. Matthew tells us that when Jesus “cried with a loud voice and breathed his last” on the cross, “The earth shook, and the rocks were split” (Mt. 27:51). When the centurion and others standing at the cross saw (and felt) the earthquake, they were terrified and said, “Truly this man was God’s Son!” (Mt.

Due to the genre’s flexible nature, many Christian artists over the years have used vague imagery and secular lyrical content to find favor among mainstream outlets. This study examined the most recent ten-year period of CCM to determine its ability to cross over into the mainstream music scene, while also assessing the impact of its lyrical content and genre on the probability of reaching such mainstream success. For the years 2008-2018, Billboard data were collected for every Christian song on the Hot 100, Hot Rock Songs, or Hot Country Songs in order to detect any noticeable trend regarding the rise or fall of CCM; each song then was coded for theological language. No obvious trend emerged regarding the mainstream success of CCM as a whole, but the genre of Rock was found to possess the greatest degree of mainstream success. Rock also, however, was shown to have a very low tolerance for theological language, contrasted with the high tolerance of Country.

2019 THEME RESOURCES Holy Today! I am ready to be approached by those who do not study me, ready to be found by those who do not seek me. I say, “I am here, I am here” to people who do not even invoke my names. Isaiah 65.1 I am here! I am here! If you have ever had a beach holiday it is surprising just how loud the sound of the waves crashing on the shore can be. By day, the sound of the waves can almost be missed amidst the other sounds, dazzling colours and energetic movement of beachgoers, bright flags, ball games, cawing seagulls or the glare of the dancing sun. Yet sitting on the sand at that magical time of twilight, the sound of the crashing waves begins to catch greater attention. As the fine mist of night begins to descend the volume seems to amplify. By nightfall, the sound can be heard with such intensity as to even keep a light sleeper awake. However, there is no volume control on the sound of the waves. It seems that we are simply more attuned or aware of its sound at some particular moments than at other times. We know the same can be true in our experience of God. Like the waves, there is no volume control that we can, or need to, turn up to hear or ‘experience the presence of God’. Like the sound of the crashing waves that are always there, so too God is always present to us - it’s just that sometimes we are more attuned or aware.

LPs continue to show strength and lend resilience to physical albums, as independent retail events like Record Store Day continue to bring music fans in droves. All data cited in this story is compiled by Nielsen Music. In this report, Nielsen is using a 24-week period for this year, running from Jan. 4 through June 20; while last year’s corresponding period ran THE FIRST HALF from Dec. 29, 2017, through June 14, 2018. Also, due to the fact that at mid-year 2018 Nielsen adapted different weighting for album OF 2019 SAW A consumption units for paid-audio streams (1,250 streams per unit), ad-supported streams and video streams (3,750 streams per unit), SIX-MONTH last year’s album consumption unit numbers were updated to reflect the current ratios for this story, in order to present an RECORD OF OVER apples-to-apples comparison.

  • January 3, 2021 Worship
Introduction to the day: The feast of Epiphany (“manifestation”) concludes the Christmas season with a celebration of God’s glory revealed in the person of Jesus Christ. In Isaiah and Ephesians, that glory is proclaimed for all nations and people. Like the light of the star that guided the magi to Jesus, the light of Christ reveals who we are: children of God who are claimed and washed in the waters of baptism. We are sent out to be beacons of the light of Christ, sharing the good news of God’s love to all people. GATHERING The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God. WELCOME CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God, who was in the beginning, who makes a dwelling among us, who covers us with justice and mercy. Amen. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. God of goodness and lovingkindness, we confess that we have sinned against you and our neighbors. We have turned away from your invitation to new life. We have turned away from the lowly and downtrodden. In your abundant mercy, forgive us our sins, those we know and those known only to you, for the sake of the one who came to live among us, Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen. Hear the good news of peace and salvation! God forgives us all our sins, not through our own work, but through ☩ Jesus Christ, made known to all people. With all who come to the manger, rejoice in this amazing gift of grace.

  • Jesus Said, “A Certain Creditor Had Two Debtors; One Owed Five Hundred Denarii, and the Other Fifty. When They Could Not Pay, He Canceled the Debts of Both of Them
Jesus said, “A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they could not pay, he canceled the debts of both of them. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon answered, “I suppose the one for whom he canceled the greater debt.” And Jesus said to him, “You have judged rightly.” Luke 7: 41-43 I’m trying to be intentional about listening to new music. To clarify, that would be music that is new to me. Lately it’s been Lauren Daigle, a contemporary Christian artist who, I swear, reminds me a lot of Adele. She wrote this song called “You Say.” Here’s the first verse: I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough. Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up. Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low? Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know. Some of us, myself included, have been told in a variety of ways by a number of people too many times that we are not enough, that we will never meet the expectations of the important people in our lives. The messages may have started when we were children. Your grades aren’t high enough. You’re not that smart. You don’t fit in. You’re weird looking. You’ll never be good at ______. You can fill in the blank. And maybe those messages continued into adulthood. Your work is unsatisfactory.
