The temple of Lord Shiva, Pathupatinath with its two-tiered golden roof and silver doors is considered one of the holiest Hindu shrines. You will then visit Boudhanath, which lies 3kms east of Pashupati. This ancient colossal Buddhist stupa is one of the biggest in the world. It wa s listed as a UNESCO Heritage Monument in 1979. Covering an area of 4 sq. miles, this city retains the charming paved roads, red brick houses and a way of life that goes back to medieval times. The extraordinary ‘Durbar Square’ with its celebrated Golden Gate and extraordinary Palace of Fifty-Five windows reflects the glory days of the Malla Dynasty when art and architecture thrived in the three cities of the valley. Situated 14km east of Kathmandu, this ancient city is also famous for pottery and woodcarving amply displayed on the squares and windows. The palace has three main courtyards: the central and the oldest is Mul Chowk. To the west of the complex are a dozen free standing temples of various sizes and built in different styles.
