We would like to welcome you and your friends and family to the 51st Anniversary of the Oktoberfest Race Weekend. It is our goal to provide area race fans and racers one of the finest stock car racing events in the upper Midwest to be a part of. We hope that you go home with many memories that you can reflect on for years to come. Oktoberfest started out as a two day race event in the 1970s and 1980’s. In the early 1990’s, it grew to three days and just a few years later became the four day tradition that still exists today. Further, fans are invited to stay with us in the popular camper village for up to a week. This year, starting on Monday October 5th right through Monday, October 12th. Oktoberfest is a racing event and experience that you cannot capture on an electronic device. It is something much more. It IS a real-life experience, one that leaves fans looking forward to the next year. Every year. It’s the chance to see old friends in the campground. Or in the Grandstands. The racing.... yes, it’s exciting. And there’s a LOT of it going on. Are there lots of race cars in different styles, and classes? Sure, there are. But it is the camaraderie of the racing family that makes a big event like Oktoberfest so special.

The Midwest Publisher's Note RACING me of going to Boone. While it was a long drive to see one Connection Racing According to Plan night of racing, having a kid old enough to share the driving October 2014 duties made the decision that much easier. Vol. 18, No. 6 If you haven’t heard of the Super Nationals before, it’s a P.O. Box 22111 marathon event. Our own Stan Meissner refers to the event St. Paul MN, 55122 as a “Modified and Stock Car orgy.” Seems fitting. There 651-451-4036 were over 800 cars at the track. The program starts each day [email protected] at 2:00pm and runs well into the eveing for six days straight. www.theracingconnection.com You heard me right, six consectuive days. Now I consider myself a die hard race fan, but I’m not sure if I could make it Publisher through every race, every day for almost an entire week, but Dan Plan there are many that do. I just recently sat through 2 nights of 6-7 hour shows, and that was too much for me. I can only Contributing Writers image how tired the people that work at the track are by the Shane Carlson end of the week. Just think of the flag man. Even if they Dale P. Danielski went all week without a caution, he (or she) had to wave the Eric Huenefeld flag about a thousdand times.

Box 22111 I’ve had this conversation several times before, but the St. Paul MN, 55122 to Plan future of our sport is looking good. Sure, some tracks 651-451-4036 have closed, some people will bitch about rule changes www.theracingconnection.com and some people will piss and moan about everything. Those types of things are always going happen. Far be Publisher it for me to always be a constant ray of sunshine, but a Dan Plan lot of good things are happening; from the local short Contributing Writers tracks to the top level of NASCAR. Shane Carlson Dale P. Danielski Despite 2015 being the last full season for Wonder Eric Huenefeld Boy (Jeff Gordon), look at the crop of kids coming up Kris Peterson through the ranks these days. We’ve already got Kyle Jacklyn Daniels-Nuttleman Larsen running in Cup, Chase Elliot as the Xfinity Jason Searcy Dan Plan (aka; Nationwide, aka; Busch) Series champion, and a Dean Reller long list of others like Ryan Blaney, Bubba Wallace Charlie Spry It’s often difficult to come up with an idea for a and John Hunter Nemecheck on their way to the big column during this time of year. With the recent news leagues. Photographers regarding Rico Abreu getting a shot at stock car Jimmy Ambruoso (815-623-3200) Rick Blewett (507-398-9483) racing, and Jeff Gordon “retiring”, I suddenly had an Martin DeFries (651-346-1199) idea for this column.
