Bulletin 4 – 28 February 2020 Bulletin 4 – 28 February 2020 Welcome to the fourth bulletin of the Monkey League 2019/20 Season. Winners and Losers Liverpool still sit at top of the Monkey Premier League as they equal Manchester City’s record of 18 consecutive Premier League victories. Sheffield United sneak into second place following another couple of wins, as they push to finish in a European spot – few would have predicted that at the start of the year. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have moved off the bottom of the Monkey Premier League table as they are now unbeaten in 5, and it is North London rivals Spurs who take the honours of last place. West Brom’s recent improved run sees them extend their lead at the top of the Monkey League Championship. Plenty of change in the places just below the Baggies, with Preston, Millwall and Blackburn now making up the top 4. Middlesborough’s dismal run sees them tumble even further down the table to 23rd place, with Stoke City still holding onto last place. Wycombe still have a comfortable lead at the top of the Monkey League One table despite a shakey run of results, thanks to a very healthy handicap. Coventry City knock Rotherham out of second place, with the Sky Blues picking up 13 points from a possible 15 as they look to secure automatic promotion back to the Championship. The less said about Bolton and Southend the better, as both clubs haven’t picked up a single point from their last 5 games, and are getting further and further adrift at the bottom of the table. Crewe Alexandra are our new leaders in the Monkey League Two table. Alexandra are one of 5 clubs who are battling for the automatic promotion places. Last time’s leaders Swindon are in second place, closely followed by Exeter. Seven consecutive defeats for now managerless Stevenage means that they now find themselves at the bottom of the Monkey League Two table. The Monkey League Results Craig Moran has found his way back to the top of our leaderboard, with Neringa Simonaitye and Andrew Hall hot on his tail. Graeme Denny is back in pole position for the wooden spoon, although Abbie Greenwood and Nicola Moore are kindly keeping Graeme company at the bottom of the table. The most improved player this time is Mark Hampton, climbing an impressive 48 places to 38th on the leaderboard. George Kirrin is this week’s biggest faller, slipping from 49th spot all the way down to 105th Quote of the week “I do not know how I missed” said Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as Arsenal crashed out of the Europa League last night on away goals. Although Aubamayang scored in 113th minute, he missed a far easier chance in the dying seconds that would have sent last year’s runners up through to the last sixteen. News in Brief It’s the final of the Carabao Cup this weekend, as reigning champions Manchester City take on Premier League newboys Aston Villa. It’s not been that long since the Villans last played at Wembley, and they will be hoping for a repeat of their play-off final success on Sunday afternoon. Question of the Week Last time we asked which six players scored 90 or more Premier League goals in the 2010s? No answers to this one, but the answers are: Sergio Aguero Harry Kane Wayne Rooney Romelu Lukaku Robin van Persie Jamie Vardy This week we want to know who are the 2 players who have played and scored in the Premier League, whose first 2 letters of their surname are NZ? • Leicester City Football Club- the Fairytale Story
Leicester City Football Club- The Fairytale Story Sport has provided us with so many remarkable stories over the years. The greatest sporting moments of all time have been so wildly astounding that no one could even begin to predict their existence before they occur right in front of our eyes. Steven Bradbury sliding nonchalantly past six men sprawling on the ice to claim gold, Germany’s incredible drubbing of Brazil in front of their own fans at the 2014 world cup, the miracle on ice at the 1980 olympics, there are too many of these stories that bring shivers up our spines to list off. Something is becoming ever more apparent as time ticks on, and it’s that Leicester City Football Club’s 2015/16 season could be the biggest story of the lot. Lets wind back to this time last year. Leicester stood dead last on the premier league table, staring down the barrel of what seemed to be an imminent relegation to the Championship. The Foxes rallied, however, and lead by their talisman Jamie Vardy’s goals, they grasped survival on the final day of the season. This run of form to finish the season was clearly a sign of things to come, but no one in their right mind would have suggested that Leicester would finish in the Premier League’s top ten this season, let alone be seven points clear at the top with only six matches remaining. In saying that, a Leicester fan just cashed out 72,000 from a 50 pound bet on his beloved team to win the title that was set to win 250,000 pounds.
