In racing circles, the name Nick Moraitis AM is synonymous with thoroughbreds, champions and of course, the legendary Might And Power. Such success on the track has been hard-earned, and is without a doubt, well deserved.

But to me, it is Nick Moraitis’ success off the track which sets him apart from others. Thanks to his compassion, commitment and dedication, he has single-handedly changed the lives of thousands of children with cerebral palsy and their families.

Today we celebrate 16 years of the annual Might And Power Race Day in support of Cerebral Palsy Alliance. In that time, the event has raised more than $4 million.

That money has helped us provide vital pieces of equipment like wheelchairs and communication devices for kids in need; it has helped us build our new state-of-the-art centre at Allambie Heights and fit out the games room for use by children and teenagers with cerebral palsy; and it has funded vital therapy and support services for children and their families throughout NSW.

Quite simply, Nick Moraitis’ long-time support of Cerebral Palsy Alliance has been a game-changer for children living with cerebral palsy and their families.

It is with heartfelt thanks that I publicly applaud Nick for his ongoing generosity and commitment. I also extend those thanks to each and every person attending today’s Might And Power Race Day, and to those who helped us raise more than $4 million over the event’s history.

It is this type of support that true legends are made of.

Cronulla Golf Club was officially opened on 15th December, 1923 by Sir William Vicars. After many working bees the course was extended from 9 holes to 12 to 16 and ultimately 18 in 1957. The club house was rebuilt and extended in 1969. Today the Golf Club is privately owned and controlled by the members.

What is STEPtember? 28 DAYS tember is an event where you commit to taking 10,000 steps a day, STEP every day, from 4 September to 2 October. How does it work? Participants register for STEPtember online in teams of four. After that, we’ll send you two good quality pedometers to help track the number of steps you take each day. At the end of each day, you record your results on the STEPtember website. All exercise counts towards your daily step target – swimming, tennis, yoga. For example, 60 minutes of cycling equates to 7,909 steps. What you’ll get out of it u You’ll have a great excuse to do more daily exercise – even if it’s just getting off the bus stop a few stops earlier, or taking the stairs instead of the lift. u You’ll have more energy, better sleep patterns, and maybe even lose a few kilos.
