Last Year at KSU All Comers The OSU men recorded nine top-five finishes, including one first-place finish, while the women finished in the top five on seven occasions, including two first-place finishes. The most impressive event of the day came during the men’s one-mile run, in which Jackie Campos the top seven finishers belonged to OSU. Neal Smith led the way with his time of 4:14.79, while runners two through seven finished within six seconds of the lead man. Two freshmen came up big for the Cowgirls, as Adela Hofmannova and Janelle Martinez crossed the finish line in first place. Hofmannova posted a time of 2:55.19 in the 1,000-meter run to place first. Martinez clocked a 5:22.98 in the mile run to earn first place in that event. World Ranking Nick Miller will enter the 2013 track and field season ranked 12th in the world in the 6kg under-20 hammer throw, according to the IAAF 2012 top list. Miller recorded a throw of 73.76 meters in Livingston, Scotland, last June at the Hammerama meet to earn a spot among the world’s best. Miller is coming off an impressive freshman year that was highlighted by a Big 12 championship in the hammer throw. He became the first Cowboy athlete to win an outdoor conference title in the hammer throw since Wallace Thornberry in 1901. Miller also set an Oklahoma State school record when he launched a 7.26 kilogram hammerShadrack 67.56 Kipchirchir meters/221-08 at the Hammerama meet in Scotland. National Champions Many of the distance runners are coming off a spectacular cross country season where they captured their third national championship in four years. The Cowboys earned 72 points, beating Wisconsin by 63 points to claim the school’s 51st NCAA team title in all sports. By finishing in the top 40, Mecheso, Kipchirchir, Tom Farrell and Joseph Manilafasha all earned All-American honors. This is the third time for both Mecheso and Farrell and the first time for Kipchirchir and Manilafasha to be named an All-American. The team is also coming off a season where it went undefeated, capturing its fifth- straight Big 12 Championship and finishing tied for first place at NCAA Midwest Regional. The Pokes also captured their third-straight Cowboy Jamboree title. For the eighth-straight year, the Cowboys placed in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships. Head coach Dave Smith was also honored by being named National Coach of the Year and Big 12 Coach of the Year. Women’s Cross Country Many of the Cowgirl distance runners are coming off a cross country season that saw improvement. Raul Botezan The Oklahoma State women’s cross country team finished 26th at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships. The Cowgirls earned 565 points and improved on their 30th-place finish from a year ago. The Cowgirls are also coming off finishing in second place at both the Big 12 Championships and NCAA Midwest Regional. They also captured their third-straight Cowboy Jamboree team title. From Head Coach Dave Smith On the Start of Indoor Track and Field “For most of the athletes, the meet this weekend is the first time they’ve competed since May, so it’s just really a chance to get on the track against some different- colored uniforms and kind of see where we are. We don’t have a lot of expectations other than wanting to see people compete hard, and do the best they can with the shape they’re in, and give us a starting point for the rest of the season.” On the Kansas State All Comers Meet “We’ve got a lot of freshmen competing this weekend, and I really want to see where they are.

Welcome We welcome all the outstanding participants to the 2018 New Balance Nationals Indoor Championships. And we wish a special welcome to all parents, coaches, and friends – all of whose support is invaluable. Our organization, the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation, does more than present national-caliber track and field and cross country events. We also actively support clinics and other meets with substantial financial commitments. Over the years, NSAF has grown from helping a few athletes to one that annually enables over 10,000 athletes to participate in various meets and activities. This is the 35th edition of the event, which has had various names since its inception in 1984. We are again happy to have New Balance as our title sponsor. New Balance is a wonderful part- ner – we have been together for eight years, and we expect to be together for many more years to come. We mourn the loss of Dr. Norbert Sander, who passed unexpectedly a few days after last year’s meet. Dr. Sander was the driving force in making The Armory what it is today. He is sorely missed. We appreciate The Armory’s new leadership, led by Rita Finkel and Jonathan Schindel, with whom we have a great relationship. We trust that everyone present these three days will have memorable experiences, and we wish everyone great success! Sincerely, Jim Spier Meet Director Congratulations on earning a spot at New Balance Nationals Indoor 2018! Your determination, work ethic, and incredible talent qualified you for this very special world class indoor track & field meet. Like many Olympians before you, your capability created the opportunity to compete at an elite level and enjoy this one of a kind experience.

  • Sub-4 Register 2021
The Sub-4 Alphabetic Register (1663 athletes as of April 13, 2021) WITHIN A YEAR of the death of the first sub-4:00 miler, Sir Roger Bannister, at the age of 88, the total number of athletes who have broken through the once historic barrier was already past 1550, and no country has kept greater faith with the legend of the sub-4 mile than the USA. Even during the COVID-ravaged year of ’21 there were 51 men who broke 4:00 indoors, of which 32 were Americans. Outdoors in ’20 there were 33 who enterprisingly did so in Australia, Great Britain, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Switzerland and, of course, the USA. The total of US sub-4 milers is now 594, far ahead of Great Britain’s 215 and Kenya’s 152, with no other country yet nearing 100. The year ’21 has very soon passed another landmark, as Nick Willis, of New Zealand, has broken 4:00 for a record 19th successive year. The previous best of 18 was held by his countryman John Walker, but Steve Scott of the USA, is still the most prolific sub-4 miler in history, with 137 such times to his credit. Elsewhere, even the distant past has eventually yielded its secrets: a hitherto overlooked performance from as long ago as 1974 by a Bulgarian was not discovered until 36 years later! Bulgaria remains something of a mystery because another sub-four minute mile by a Bulgarian in ’92 (no venue or exact date) has only recently been caught up with! There are now 19 sets of brothers, including 5 sets of twins, and 11 sets of fathers and sons who have broken 4:00.
