SMU Announces 2017 Athletics Hall of In this issue Fame Class

 2017 Hall of Fame Class SMU and SMU Athletics, in conjunction with the Announced SMU Lettermen’s Association, have announced the newest class of the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame.  Men’s Basketball Makes The 2017 inductees include: Krista Wilson Klein, History Rod Jones, Ricardo Prado, George Hardie, Oscar Roan and Richard Quick.  Football Announces 2017

Recruiting Class These athletes will be recognized at the annual Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony on Friday, May 5 at .  Jerry LeVias Mustang Football Golf Classic - Hardie was a member of the men's tennis team from 1972-75 and was part of two Southwest Conference championship Register Today! teams in 1973 and 1975. Individually, Hardie was a four-time All-American in singles play and an All-American doubles play- er in 1974. During his senior season, he reached the NCAA singles championship match and finished as runner-up. Hardie  Ponies in the Press also claimed two SWC singles titles, in 1973 and 1974. Post SMU, Hardie competed professionally making it to the round of 16 twice at the Australian Open  In Memoriam Jones, a decorated multi-sport athlete at SMU, competed on the men's track and field and football teams 1982-1986. He was  Upcoming Dates and a member of the 1983 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Trach & Field Championship teams, as well as the 1986 NCAA Outdoor Championship team. A four-time All-American, he earned honors in the mile relay (1984), 1,600m relay (1983 & 1986) and Events the 400m (1986). On the football field, Jones was a first-round draft pick (25th overall) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1986. He played 11 seasons in the NFL with Tampa Bay and Cincinnati.  Renew your membership! Wilson Klein, one of the most accomplished divers in SMU history, competed for the Mustangs from 1987-91. Wilson Klein was a two-time NCAA champion, eight-time All-American and six-time Southwest Conference champion. During her tenure at SMU, she was named the 1991 NCAA Diver the of Year and the 1991 Woman of the Year award. She was a three- time U.S. Diving Outdoor champion with a pair of 3m titles (1990 & 1991) and a 1m victory in 1990. Wilson Klein founded the G.C. Diving team in 1994, the No. 1-ranked competitive dive team in the United States and currently serves as head coach. Spring Sports are Underway! Visit smumustangs.com for Prado competed for the Mustangs from 1983-86 as a member of the men's swimming team. During his time on the Hilltop, Prado won NCAA Championships in the 400-yard individual medley (1983, 1984 & 1986) and the 200-yard individual medley up-to-date schedule (1983 & 1984). Prado earned 12 All-America honors and racked up five SWC titles, two in the 400-yard individual medley, information for all fall sports. two in the 200-yard butterfly and one in the 200-yard individual medley. After his time on the Hilltop, Prado represented Brazil in the 1984 Olympics, swimming in five events and winning a silver medal in the 400-meter IM. Need tickets? Quick, a member and coach of the swimming and diving team, is one of the most decorated Mustangs in SMU history. As a member of the swim team from 1963-65, Quick was a three-time SWC champion (400-yard individual medley in 1964, 100- Did you know? The and 200-yard butterfly in 1965) and two-time All-American. After his time as a student-athlete, Quick became the men's assistant coach (1971-75) and then the women's head coach (76-77). Upon leaving SMU, Quick went on to coach the U.S. SMU Lettermen’s team at six Olympics (1984-2004), leading the women's team to 16 medals at the 2000 Olympics. In Memoriam Al “David” Bostick (55-12/16)— Bostick attended SMU for his undergraduate degree. Bostick enjoyed sports and was a member of the mustang football team during his time on the hilltop. After college Al had a devoted career to Goodwill industry's in Fort worth. Al became CEO of the company and worked there till 2012 when he retired.

Jim Farris (May 1952—March 2017) After graduating from Big Spring High School in 1970, Jim went on to play football at Southern Methodist University from 1970 to 1974, where he would later graduate. Jim was an avid family man who loved sports, especially SMU football, playing golf, grilling, and, of course, fishing.

John Thomas Hairston Jr (7/34—2/17)— John was a proud military officer serving in the Air Force after his time at SMU. John started his time at the hilltop in 1951. He arrived at SMU on a football scholarship. During his time at SMU, John started a career at Tom Thumb, which he continued after returning from the Air Force. John gave back to his university serving as president of Alumni Association and Mustang Club.

Marty Kidd (6/71-2/17)— Marty was a beloved father and grandfather from Houston Texas. Marty attended Flower Mound Marcus scoring the first touchdown in school history Marty was a member of the SMU football Team from 89-91 attaining his business degree while at SMU. In 2006 Kidd Academy, a new pre-school, was opened. Kidd Academy was a successful, earning several awards and accolades.

Dr. John Lewis Rumley (39-1/17)— John was a local boy born and raised in Dallas Texas, graduating from Highland Park. John was one of the top football players in the state of Texas. John received a full athletic scholarship in his way to SMU. John received a bachelor in science before receiving his M.D from Baylor College. John ran a successful dental practice for 38 years. John is remembered as a loving husband, farther and grandfather.

Russell "Rusty" Ross Sr (8/30-1/14)— Russell will be remembered as a loving husband, farther and grandfather. Russell graduated from Woodrow Wilson high school. Russell's performance throughout high school earned him a football scholarship to SMU. Ross would go on to graduate from North Texas with a bachelor of arts degree. Ross would go from North Texas on to work for Sun Oil company for 35 years till his retirement.

Alan Wayne Snead (9/37-2/17)— Alan Wayne was a loving farther and grandfather from Mis- souri. Alan graduated from Snyder high school making his way to SMU. While attending SMU Alan became the president of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Alan played baseball during his tenure at SMU. After graduating Alan worked for the Energizer company for 38 years as a talented salesman

John Howard Washburn (8/49-2/21)— John a loving husband and farther from Des Moines, Iowa. John grew up a admit lover of golf for his whole life. His love for golf and talent allowed him to attend SMU on a golf scholarship. While at SMU John met his life time partner. After graduating John worked several jobs until he became the executive vice president to Sammons companies. It’s that time of year!
