Graduates of Rollins may become associate members of the American Asso ciation of University Women. FIFTY-FIRST ANNUAL CATALOGUE WITH ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR 1936-1937 FOREWORD HE ideal at Rollins is to substitute learning for in struction, to encourage the intellectual curiosity and T enthusiasm of the student, and to develop the in dividual in the manner best suited to him. The oldest institution of higher learning in Florida, Rol lins was founded fifty-one years ago under Congregational auspices to provide for Christian education in Florida. Al though undenominational it has steadfastly maintained the ideals of its heritage. Rollins was the first institution in the lower South to be given the retiring grants for professors by the Carnegie Foundation. This recognition came in 1908. It was also the first college in Florida, as distinguished from the state institutions of higher learning, to receive membership in the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Echools. The College is also fully recognized by the Florida State De partment of Education and the New York State Department of Education. The College has endeavored to stand for clean athletics and to this end maintains membership in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Amateur Ath letic Union. Rollins College is .an active member of the following national educational organizations: The Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The Association of American Colleges. The American Council on Education. The Florida Association of Colleges. The National Association of Schools of Music.
